#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Disappointing
Played this course with a group of 8. We had a good time but the course wasn't exactly in very good shape. The greens wouldn't hold a shot and were splotchy. We also had problems with the Marshall's who came to us twice in a hole and a half span to tell us to speed up when we were right on time and even then inside said so. We even lets 3 groups through.
Course is in great shape
Thanks to all of the recent rain, the fairways are in great shape. The greens have cleared up (poa is now dead) and are mostly in great shape, though very fast.
This course has lots of character
I just played my 15th round at Grey Rock since moving into the Austin area. I really enjoy playing the course and the shot-making challenges it poses to a medium handicap player like myself. Most importantly, I like the raw beauty of the course, it truly exemplifies a Texas/Hill Country course.
Beautiful Course
The course was in great shape. I will make this one of my favorites.
Loved the course
Grey Rock was a wonderful selection for my final round of vacation golf. Staff were exceptionally friendly and HELPFUL. Course was not as firm as some others I had played in the area which I appreciated. I would definitely recommend and plan to go back next time I am in town.
Close to my home
I realize we have had a colder than usual weather so I understood the greens would not be in good shape. Wanted to have a burger and beer after round at 7:00pm but closed. Not the first time the bar/grill is closed or ran out of beverage. Still had people on course with hour left of daylight. Last cart girl came by between 4:30-5:00 and said she wouldn't be back.
Pretty nice still but course is on the decline
Greens were very inconsistent. Lots of singles and doubles that should have been paired up to make foursomes. Had to hit off mats at the driving range and for that price I expect grass not mats. Course is not worth the price!
This course is in awful condition.
They have really let this place go down the drain. It looks like a goat track. I will not play here again which is a shame because I like the course. Very disappointed.
Worst Conditioned Course in Austin BAR NONE!!!
Who ever has let this lil gem deteriorate to the extent it has should be ASHAMED of themselves. The entire course was ingested with weeds!!! The once plush and lush fairways were completely trashed!!!! The once smooth, lush, and fast greens were now slow, bumpy, and infested with poa Anna grass that only round up will cure!!! The tee boxes were sparce and the edges of the fairways bare and rocky. The city of Austin has signed up to take it over but SPARE US ALL!!!! We have enough over priced poorly maintained golf courses (Roy Kizer for one) to go around. It's a downright shame and until it recovers I'll never be back!!!!
Give it time
Course really needs attention. With some work,It is probably 2 years from worth playing and enjoying. Sorry to the very nice people working there.
Ugh
This course has tanked. The rounds now take 5 hours; your fellow golfers wear jean shorts, t-shirts, and jeans; and the charm of a quiet Sunday afternoon is now drowned out by hooligans shouting "BABABOOEY!" as they spike their putters on the greens. If you're looking for an over-priced muni, this is your answer. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Grey Rock First-Timer
First course I've played since moving to Austin. Will definitely be back!
A middle-of-the-pack course in Austin
This facility southwest of Austin has a great first impression: lovely trees and a scenic stone clubhouse overlooking the 18th green with a big pond beside it.
The course is pretty good, too. It's mostly flat, which is surprising considering it's west of Austin where the Hill Country begins. A few holes on the front nine are pinched in by housing a little too much for my liking.
While the overall ambiance is pleasant and the back nine isn't as developed, I found a lot of holes a little boring. There doesn't seem to be quite enough hole variety out here, and I'm not sure it warrants a green fee that is double of what the munis are. Though considering the City of Austin may be buying the place, expect rates to come down soon enough...
Fun course to play
The golf course is transitioning now, so the fairway turf is not as lush as it will be. The greens rolled well considering that the hybrid Bermuda was still popping up, necessitating slightly higher cut and correspondingly lower green speed - about a 7-8. The staff was unbelievably friendly from the pro behind the counter to the 19th hole and cart girls to the marshals. I was playing with 1 beginner and 2 18+ handicappers. At other courses the marshals would have hounded us, but these guys, although they did visit us a few times, kept everything very friendly and encouraging. It was pretty clear what was going on. All in all, a pretty cool experience.
Decent course
I just don't see what all the hoopla is about with this course. Nothing big deal, Not saying it was bad just not great. I'm glad we got a golf now discount. Would not have been a happy camper to pay full price for this course, Way to much for average. All the staff was very very pleasant. But course its self was just normal in our opions. I will say 18 is a fun finishing hole. anytime you have to go around water I enjoy that challenge. all being said I would play it again(w/discount).
Grey Rock greens - Poa infested
Overall the course was in good shape, except for the most important part, the greens. They are currently infested with Poa which yields a very bumpy surface. In the summer it will die out and hopefully the regular grass on the greens will fill in.
Geat Afternoon...
First time at Greyrock this year. Course was in good shape. Fun as always.
We'll maintained
This well maintained course was interesting and fun to play on. This definitely upper quality.
This course is poorly maintained
We called ahead to research the condition of the course and we were told (as you would expect) that it was in great shape.
The fairways were full of weeds and so thin that we were forced to use preferred lies in order to not be hitting off of what amounts to bare soil. The greens were bumpy and also full of weeds. Putts did not roll well or smoothly. Not the worst I've ever seen but they are certainly in the running. We will take this course out of our rotation until something changes.
The price (even at a discount) is WAY TOO HIGH.
Fun course
The course lay out was enjoyable. I would love to play this course when the weather is warmer and everything is green.
