#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Great Course for the price
Two of my buddies and I played 18 holes with cart on 28 Aug 2013. Although wet all day the fairways and greens where in pristine shape! The proshop attendant was courteous and the starter/marshal was very friendly. Pace of play was excellant we finished our round in 3hrs 45 mins and we are not real fast golfers. The normal price is around $80ea but we saved $30ea by using Golf Now so we paid $50 ea pls the bookinf fee on line. Our only beef was that for a course asking this kind of premium in the Austin area it was hard to believe they did not have GPS in the carts. Because of this I could not see paying $80 but the Golf discount we received made it worth it.
This course has room to improve
Overall a nice course, but the greens were somewhat spongy and not rolling true. I was told they were punched in early august, so still waiting to take shape. The staff is extremely friendly and aiming to please
Dry conditions because of the drought, but still well-kept.
I have taken a vow of student-induced poverty so the only time I can play here is when I get a great Golfnow rate like I did today. I have recommended this course before, and continue to do so.
Get there early to be sure to use their awesome practice facilities before you tee off. The fairways are dry, but the greens look pretty good. They were a little slow, but still good.
4 Hour Rule
Please be aware of the 4 hour rate of play rule that is strictly enforced. We were the first foursome of the day. The course marshals reminded us every 4 or 5 holes about the 4 hour rate of play. We were never more than 10-15 minutes over and ended up playing in 4:05. It did not make for a fun day of golf.
Greens slower than my living room carpet.
Let me start by saying that I have loved this course for a long time. That being said, the greens could use some real attention. They look visually pleasing, a dark green, but you'd be better off chipping the ball to the hole. Other than that, the course looks like any other in August in Texas. Could use a little more water, but other than that, a good value.
I will play this course again manymore times.
Pace of play was slowed by having a senior golfer new to the game and a 13 year old in the 4 some. Challenginging course with a good variety of holes. Dog legs left and right. Not much water to challenge you. Very well groomed. Marshalls did a ggod job of monitoring players. I have just moved from Oregon to Austin so I am used to faster greens. I'm sure the type of grass is a factor in this. Greens were in excellent condition. I am a 69 year old senior golfer who has been playing for 50 years.
Great layout
Would be 4 stars had the greens not been punched two weeks earlier and not sanded enough. Traps were great.
Good deal!
Very good experience...cold bottle of water in the parking lot!
Staff friendly and informative. Range stations too close together! Felt crowded... Only real negative was greens had been plugged the day before. Rolled pretty well considering. Definitely going back when they are in good shape. Should have been an alert on the website, but that is probably up to the course to inform Golfnow. Still a good value for under $30.
Great shape
Played this course twice in the past two weeks. The greens and fairways are in great shape! I have been playing it for the past 3 years and it is in the best shape I have ever played it in. The bunkers all have new sand. The only con's I have is that the Blue tee's are way back now and the white tee's are way up.. No in between. Also, several of the tee boxes are really uneven so you have to move around to find a good spot to drive from.
Overall this is an great course for the money! Will continue to play each week!
Grey rock is a great layout, there is a great mix of challenging holes and easy holes that offer a chance a birdie
My main concern was the greens. they are very slow and spongy. I thought I was playing a muny course! for the price this was not a good value regular cutting, rolling and a watering plan are much needed. as for the staff and facilities, Grey rock gets and A
Tee it forward
We played from the white tees which looks a little short on the card but is plenty challenging for a bogey golfer. A couple of the par 5's are reachable in two for a 250 yard hitter. This course has always been in great shape for as long as I've played it (many years). The range and practice facility is above par as well.
I can't wait to play again
We really had a great day of golf. The course was in great condition. The staff was awesome. From Round Rock it was a lot closer then we thought it would be. We're going back.
Very few people playing due to heat
Course was in good shape but staff was watering while we played due to heat.
102
This course is always in acceptable condition and this time was no different. The two of us played in three hours. At 102 degrees the sooner we finished the better. A big thanks to the Staff for making sure there was plenty of drinking water on the course. The greens were in good condition but had the biggest grain I've ever seen. We got on for $20. Well worth the cost and usually unheard of at this course.
Challenging but also user friendly.
Recent improvements to this course include clearing out the underbrush at the right side landing areas on all of the holes. The staff is super cordial and efficient with complementary cold water bottles greeting you in the parking lot, and the beverage cart girls handing out cold towels to combat the heat. I played late in the afternoon on Saturday & Sunday and finished in under three (3) hours on both days. Well worth the discount GolfNow.com weekend price.
Way Overpriced
Grey Rock has the reputation for being overpriced at the best of times. Based on the sub-par condition of the course - particularly the greens which were in terrible shape - it wasn't even close to being worth the discounted rate I paid on through Golfnow.
If you are in deep South Austin it is worth playing.
The layout is good but the fairways are a little dry. Of couse is has been over 100 degrees lately. The green need some work because they are bumpy and slow.
Disappointment
Before making this tee time, I called the pro shop and asked about the condition of the greens. The attendant said they were a "7 out of 10" and had a few brown spots but were rolling really well. This course is usually in great shape, but not yesterday. The greens were inconsistent, slow and bumpy. When I mentioned the pro shop attendant's comment, everyone in our group agreed he must have been referring to a different course, and that they are really more like a "3 out of 10." The normal weekend green fee is $99 dollars. Even though we got a slight discount through GolfNow, everyone felt cheated.
Great Course, Texas Greens
Overall, the course was great, but the greens could use a little more attention. It's Texas, so that is to be expected to an extent, but I have played other courses in the area for less $ and had a much better experience on the greens.
Course is nice and convienient. In good shape.
I don't really have much to say. I like the course and will play it again.
