#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Overpriced for what you get
The course is a decent layout, but not worth what you have to pay. Even though I found a hot deal at $49 per person,( as compared to $70) it still was not worth it. The course is very flat and the only challenging part of the course is that some of the par 4s are over 400 yards from the blue tees. The day we played, the greens were super slow and rough due to over-seeding the week before. I wish I had known that when I booked the tee time. I would have avoided the course altogether. The staff was just matter of fact and did not share the over seeding with us. We found out from the twosome we allowed to play through. Also, a course like this should not allow singles out on a busy Sunday afternoon. We let two singles play through and they must have been members as well as the twosome as they seemed annoyed that a foursome was playing are a slow 4 hour round pace. The only reason it took us over four hours was allowing the singles and twosomes to play through. My advice, find another course.
What's up with the greens?
Nice course layout with some challenging and fun holes but the greens really take away from the experience. Very fuzzy and slow.
Good course, but only at discounted price
The course and facilities were all in pretty good shape. I would have been a bit disappointed if I'd paid the full $90, but at a discounted $55 I was happy. There was no GPS. Staff was friendly. I'd go play the course again if I got the same rate.
Nice course....nice price!
Grey Rock is a nice course that thinks it should be a lot more...as with most courses it struggles with getting enough play to sustain itself. It charges regular green fees of $70 or more on weekends which maybe for the Austinites that can afford the pricey membership and over priced green fees is alright, but for those of us whom are lucky enough to play golf at all with the courses charging so much these days...lucky for us there is Golf Now. Don't think I am in any way bashing them, but I play a lot of different courses and Grey Rock is nice, but by no means spectacular as a country club experience. If you can grab this tee time for less than $40....I say go for it, but I have yet to play any golf course in my 35 years of playing worth more than $50 for a green fee...TPC San Antonio included!
The easier step-sibling of Avery Ranch
I liked this course a lot. It's more fun to play than Avery on a day when your swing isn't grooved, but it's still relatively challenging. It's in good condition as of 9/17, but they seem to have a problem with hogs scratching parts of the fairways and some issues on the greens.
There's a lot of wiggle room on this course for the higher handicappers, and there's a lot of opportunities for errant approach shots to wind up okay.
Don't let these issues deter you, as it's still a very fun and playable course.
Pace of play was great-- I saw a 5-some of retirees played a 3:45 round. Our round was 3:20 as a 2-some.
The staff was very friendly. Every marshal/starter/cart girl/etc that we encountered did a great job.
Great course & maintained
I haven't played this course in years.
Still Circle C to me.
I would play there soon, w/o a doubt.
Grey Rock - a fun course
We played Grey Rock on a afternoon with a few other golfers on the course. The course is challenging but fair. Tee to green was very good as to fairways and traps being in great shape. Some minor grass issues but that's the drought we are living through. Greens were in great shape and could be tricky if cut close which was not the case due to the drought.
Overall great round on a great course..
Good
Always a good choice for the money. No cart people with drinks stinks. Course is in good shape. Not very friendly for right to left players, but that is OK.
This course is very well maintained
The course is very close to where I live so I love it. I wish they have discounts for residents of circle C
Great track, excellent condition and value
Range is great, greens are smooth and medium speed. Great layout!
Great Course for the price
Two of my buddies and I played 18 holes with cart on 28 Aug 2013. Although wet all day the fairways and greens where in pristine shape! The proshop attendant was courteous and the starter/marshal was very friendly. Pace of play was excellant we finished our round in 3hrs 45 mins and we are not real fast golfers. The normal price is around $80ea but we saved $30ea by using Golf Now so we paid $50 ea pls the bookinf fee on line. Our only beef was that for a course asking this kind of premium in the Austin area it was hard to believe they did not have GPS in the carts. Because of this I could not see paying $80 but the Golf discount we received made it worth it.
This course has room to improve
Overall a nice course, but the greens were somewhat spongy and not rolling true. I was told they were punched in early august, so still waiting to take shape. The staff is extremely friendly and aiming to please
Dry conditions because of the drought, but still well-kept.
I have taken a vow of student-induced poverty so the only time I can play here is when I get a great Golfnow rate like I did today. I have recommended this course before, and continue to do so.
Get there early to be sure to use their awesome practice facilities before you tee off. The fairways are dry, but the greens look pretty good. They were a little slow, but still good.
4 Hour Rule
Please be aware of the 4 hour rate of play rule that is strictly enforced. We were the first foursome of the day. The course marshals reminded us every 4 or 5 holes about the 4 hour rate of play. We were never more than 10-15 minutes over and ended up playing in 4:05. It did not make for a fun day of golf.
Greens slower than my living room carpet.
Let me start by saying that I have loved this course for a long time. That being said, the greens could use some real attention. They look visually pleasing, a dark green, but you'd be better off chipping the ball to the hole. Other than that, the course looks like any other in August in Texas. Could use a little more water, but other than that, a good value.
I will play this course again manymore times.
Pace of play was slowed by having a senior golfer new to the game and a 13 year old in the 4 some. Challenginging course with a good variety of holes. Dog legs left and right. Not much water to challenge you. Very well groomed. Marshalls did a ggod job of monitoring players. I have just moved from Oregon to Austin so I am used to faster greens. I'm sure the type of grass is a factor in this. Greens were in excellent condition. I am a 69 year old senior golfer who has been playing for 50 years.
Great layout
Would be 4 stars had the greens not been punched two weeks earlier and not sanded enough. Traps were great.
Good deal!
Very good experience...cold bottle of water in the parking lot!
Staff friendly and informative. Range stations too close together! Felt crowded... Only real negative was greens had been plugged the day before. Rolled pretty well considering. Definitely going back when they are in good shape. Should have been an alert on the website, but that is probably up to the course to inform Golfnow. Still a good value for under $30.
Great shape
Played this course twice in the past two weeks. The greens and fairways are in great shape! I have been playing it for the past 3 years and it is in the best shape I have ever played it in. The bunkers all have new sand. The only con's I have is that the Blue tee's are way back now and the white tee's are way up.. No in between. Also, several of the tee boxes are really uneven so you have to move around to find a good spot to drive from.
Overall this is an great course for the money! Will continue to play each week!
Grey rock is a great layout, there is a great mix of challenging holes and easy holes that offer a chance a birdie
My main concern was the greens. they are very slow and spongy. I thought I was playing a muny course! for the price this was not a good value regular cutting, rolling and a watering plan are much needed. as for the staff and facilities, Grey rock gets and A
