Pin placements were in brutal places on nearly every green. Made no sense for green conditions or pace of play.
Needs some TLC
This course has the potential to be near the top of your list of places to play. I was there in early March. It is a fine design. If they do the proper preparation/maintenance going into the spring it could work out well. It is not a beginner course, as many greens are protected with well placed and constructed bunkers. Gentle elevation changes and side hill lies to challenge you. But you can play from 5000 to near 7000 yards. I am going to return here in 2 months to see how things "green up". If you like to walk and thrive on it this is a good layout. the next tee is not far away. But the layout is not flat and you have modest elevation changes. Fairways are pretty generous. So good chance to have a playable second shot. It is vital that you select the proper tees. If you over estimate your ability you will find yourself facing long second shots. You will find most of the challenge on your approaches to the greens.
I have not used the food services. But you pass this on the way to the 10th tee, so easy in and out. Don't know if you can order ahead, say calling in an order at 9th tee and then picking up on your way to the 10th. I like the driving range and putting green. You are hitting off a matt, and I would pay to hit off grass, but that is not how things work now. My primary complaint is there are a lot of bare spots and ragged spots on the course especially the 5-10 feet around a lot of greens. That is why I will return, but it does not appear they fixes this by seeding or sodding last fall. The greens were aerated a few weeks before I played, so I am hoping for improvement when I return.
Good layout, conditions lacking
I like the layout and how they meander thru the houses and woods. Definitely not the boring layout of many muni's around here. The conditions are lacking though - maybe because we are coming out of winter, but lots of dirt patches, clumpy grass, and inconsistently mown areas.
Not worth $79
Tee boxes are terrible shapes and overall not worth $79 (morning tee time). I played at better course for the cheaper rate (on weekend and even during the winter season). I will come back if price is lower until then I will play another courses in the area.
Despite some icy snow left on the course, they were open and we enjoyed a warm day break playing in the midst of winter
Not bad for time of year
A few days after a snow storm. 4 holes closed. Several others should have been closed too. Too much snow. Great layout.
Great time with my adult kids
This is a really fun course. Very nice layout, great pace of play and the greens were in surprisingly good shape for a mid winter round. The staff was super friendly as well.
Enjoy Reston National
I always enjoy Reston National. Challenging course, friendly staff, and decent pace of play. Course is kept in good condition, especially for this time of year. Now...if I could just play it better!!!
