End of an era
This used to be a great course. 50 dollars for 9 holes was the cost at 4pm today. No starter there. Ask when my turn is, the 16 year old said there were only 2 people working and he didn’t know. Polite kid. Pace so slow, I’m not even sure people had tee times, they would just walk up to 1 and hit. (Ala no starter). Got through 7 holes and it was too dark to finish
The tee boxes and greens were in horrible shape. Cart path only was on basically half the course even though it was dry.
Member said the owner is trying to sell the course and ramping up profit to do it.
This is probably the 10th time I’ve played this course over 3 years. Maybe it was a bad day but I’m not willing to spend 90+ dollars to give them another chance. Should drop price significantly if that is going to be experience going forward
Poor Conditions
I normally enjoy this course when it is in better condition, but right now the course is difficult to play because of the fairway conditions, which were wet and muddy. The course was very wet considering very little rain and sunny days over the last week or so, requiring cart path only, on a dry day. I will probably choose not to play here for the remainder of this season.
Good course for the money
Played 9:20am on a Saturday 2hrs front 9 2:45 back 9. no Marshall’s and they don’t wipe dew off greens in the am-even after 9,10am,etc
Course is coming back although bunkers are dirt and clay mostly. Greens are rolling ok although lots of pitch marks.
Nice Layout but So-So Condition
The course has a great layout. Lots of trees, elevation changes, ponds, creeks, reachable 5-pars, and overall interesting holes. However, many of the tee boxes have no grass, others are dotted with crabgrass, most of the sand traps have no sand in them and many of the greens are in terrible shape. The fact that the sand traps are mostly dirt (not sand) is a fixable problem and shows that they are not willing to put money into the course. It is a shame, because the course has great potential and the staff there are fantastic..
Looking Better
The course has been steadily getting better over the past month. The crew has been doing a lot better job of making sure people stay off the holes that are cart path only and it shows. Keep up the good work!
Slow play but good value
Course was in great shape. Only negative is majority of morning players were walkers. Waited on most tee boxes. Very short and forgiving course. Great Value
No marshal, no beverage cart
Reston is normally is nice, upscale facility. However, the course is not in great shape, especially the tee boxes and some greens, and there is no service. There are no marshalls out on the course, and there is no beverage cart. We ended up behind a slow, rude group that held us and everyone behind us up, leading to a round of just over 5 hours.
Conditions need improvement
Overall, given the weather of the summer, Reston National is in decent shape. That being said, there are many tee boxes that are in really tough shape. Fairways and greens are in good shape. Pace of play was 4 hours on the nose. We got stuck behind a slow 4 some starting on #14.
Great experience for the money
Some parts of course need more grounds keeping attention, but overall good.
Meh!
Checked in at 1100 and also buy range balls, get to the range and they are out. No one around to pick up. Got a refund but I need the range to loosen up. Tee boxes are a mess. Fairways and greens were okay.
Fun course
Course was in decent shape with greens in the late phase of aeration.
A No.Va. classic recovering from a rough summer
Recent reviews have been critical of conditions, primarily tee boxes, and other issues. Overall, the course was in decent shape, with some burned out fairways growing back to life and the tee boxes on the mend. Some bunkers were newly filled with sand, while a couple others looked like rough clay. Overall service is good, but not fantastic and it's hard to discern what difference the shift from Casper to Kemper has meant for overall operations. We were given a dangerous cart with a loose roof that hit our heads, but that was readily replaced.
On to the course: Reston National is one of the most popular and busy courses in the area, conveniently located, with a classic American parkland design that is appealing to most players over many years. Representative of its era of design, it's fairly long and features large greens.
The holes unfold amidst mature trees that obscure views of the hundreds of townhouses that line the course, but the course has a fairly open feel. If you play from black tees (as most do), you'll find that the long par 4's just keep coming, particularly 10/12/13, three holes in the 420-440 yard range. The best holes might be the three par 5's, none of which are overly long, but which present some variety.
The course is very walkable and is currently offering a price break for walkers.
The range is busy with a very active golf school focused on kids and beginning players and there's a decent practice area as well.
