Poor restroom facilities on course. Run-down has carts Tattered awning over front door. Gus the starter was AWESOME!
Great experience for the money
Overall, my favorite course in this area, out of the 5-6 I've played.
Waste of money
Waited for almost 30 mins for a golf cart. Head Pro came out 3 times and never even acknowledged anyone. The foul mouthed started actually felt bad and tried to help. When I saw the Pro not caring it set the round up for failure. Tee boxes were a disaster, looked like a rotted cow pasture. Ladies members in front of us were slow and rude. 2hrs 37 minutes from 9.
Walked off after 9 paid for 18.
Way over priced for the terrible conditions and level of service.
We will never return.
Tee boxes
The course went thru a brutal hot July and then a soggy August which can be seen on some parts of the fairways. The tee boxes however have been invaded by crab grass making them difficult to choose a reliable spot to tee off. The greens are in decent shape but someone needs to take special care in replacing the holes when they change the pin placement. The rough is just the right cut as it will penalize you for landing your ball there. Overall this course is a good one to play.
Decent course but a little beaten up
Overall course was decent but there were quite a few rough spots. Most of the tee boxes were just weeds or sand, a few fairways weren't draining well, and I lost a ball in a bunker because there was a small pond with about 2-3 inches of murky water in the bunker. In defense of the course it had rained a bit leading up to the round but was still shocked for that to happen. We had to wait on a number of tee boxes, round was about 4 3/4 hours.
Course is in rough shape
I used to play this course regularly, because I could always find deals. However, the deals have been very few and far between, so I have not played here since last fall. Most tees were in very bad shape, mainly crusty mud or dirt. Where there was grass, they were just clumps of crabgrass. Most of the fairways were pretty rough as well. With the crusty mud and crabgrass, just like the tees.. Most of the greens were okay, but even some of the greens had cut down clumps of crabgrass. It was in the worst shape that I have ever seen this course in. I do hope it was just a fluke and can spring back. I would have been very disappointed if I had paid the full (expensive) rack rate for this course in the condition it was in.
Needs work
A good walking course and it moved right along.
The tee boxes were a mess and needed a lot of work. Also, many parts of the fairways were dried out with dried mud (it was dry when we played). We had played in the spring and it was ideal, not sure what happened. Greens were just "ok", lots of divots and bare spots from previous hole placements.
What happened
I played this course several times in May and June and it was in terrific condition.
Fast forward. Broken foot kept me out for several weeks. Today the tee boxes were weed infested. The fairways looked like they had some kind of rot on them. Huge bare spots all over the place.
What the heck happened. How does a course fall so badly in two months?
Poor conditions
Fairways and tee boxes either overgrown with weeds or complete dirt spots.Of course was in much better conditions when I played it in May. It appears like zero maintenance has been done since then. Pretty disappointing. And certainly not worth the money.
Course is in terrible shape. Tee boxes overrun with crabgrass. Fairways also in bad shape.
Rough shape but fine
Much like all courses around the DC area right now, Reston National is hurting (hot temps and lots of rain causing burnouts and disease). Greens are actually ok but the fairways are toast, The back 9 is better than the front. It’s a nice layout and will come back with some cooler temps and some maintenance.
Going Downhill?
Really disappointed and surprised by the decline in the course conditions at Reston National yesterday. Over the years, we've probably played at least 10-15 rounds annually, although we hadn't played here before yesterday since late April, early May. Course conditions way worse. Coronavirus protections on course were lessened. Even golf carts switched out . . . GPS gone and mine felt like it was shaking apart. Hard not to connect dots with change in management . . . Now way better choices locally for the dollar. Sorry to see and say this.
water damaged fairways and aerated greens
I like the course, the people and the layout, but our timing was bad as several fairways had severe water damage and the greens had been recently aerated.
Bad Shape
The course is in horrible shape. Weeds throughout the tee boxes, numerous patches in the grass with mud/dirt, and greens in terrible condition. The first cut of rough might as well be hazard.
I've played Reston many times over the last 30+ year. This round was a true clunker, I'm afraid. While most courses are struggling with conditioning, Reston is in particularly bad shape, with lots of crab grass on tee boxes and in fairways and large burned out sections in most fairways. I paid the same $55 to walk as one of my friends did to ride :-( and the round took close to five hours due to an outing that the course failed to manage until it was too late. To top it off, the greens had just been aerated and putting was a guessing game. Despite all of that, the place was packed!
It kind of makes me wonder whether they're letting the place go to pot in hopes of getting the OK to sell the land so someone can build more townhouses.
