Good course
Have not play this course in over 3 years, was nice pace of play was good.
Greens are good, over all was great, quick tip, if you have a watch gps. Don't trust it, use the gps on the car.
Some greens are hard some are not, but hey is a public course, lol
60.00 plus bucks to play, still a bit stif , other courses within 15 miles are on 40 bucks range.
But if you are visiting Reston town center this is the place.
It can also be a big boys course if you choose to move back the tip tees .
Enjoy!!
Also it has a great practice facility
Course in good shape
This was the first time for our foursome to play Reston National this year. The tees, fairway and greens were in good shape, the start was on time and pace of play was very good for a weekend morning.
Great, straightforward course
Played Reston National on a Monday to avoid weekend crowds and had a Golfnow discount. A really good deal for only $38. Course was fairly empty, but our twosome (I was paired up with a single), got stuck behind two foursomes and the second foursome was consistently a hole and a half to a hole behind the other foursome. The course was well taken care of and allowed you to play golf - focus on hitting fairways and greens. Some courses are extremely well-taken care of, but have extremely difficult holes that force you to play shots you'd only play at that hole - Extreme elevation changes with tight sloping fairways or long carries over water. There was a small amount of water on the course, but you never had to carry water. Sure that adds some challenge to it, but it was nice to be able to focus on hitting drives off the tee and irons from the fairway and not having to worry about looking for balls in the woods or losing them in the water. Lost one ball all round (usually it's 5 or 6) and shot my second best round of my life. The heat and the slow play were the only downsides and the course can't control the first. Would play here again, but probably only during the week. A couple folks said it can get busy on weekends.
Good layout
Looking for new course that I could play on visit to see daughter who also plays. Good course with everything in front of you. Starter paired my daughter and I with local golfer from club who was very helpful in showing both of us where to and not to hit it. Local member played from the tips and I asked if I could join him, and it was a fair test. My daughter has been looking for another course in the area to play and I think she found it. GPS on carts are fairly accurate. Will play again on our next visit.
Early Morning Round
The course wasn't busy, so we barely saw another group of players - never waited and never held up the group behind. Finished the round in less than 4 hours.
Only saw the cart girl once, and the course doesn't have a real bar, so no limes for the coronas, but apart from that, had an excellent time catching up with an old friend.
Relaxin in Reston
A good experience on a nice track. My wife and I enjoyed our round , and Tom the starter was great!
I loven it this course...
My favorite course....loven it
Play anytime good score only this course
Good score.....putting green fast staff is very
Nice........
Good
I rate this course good. Course was in good shape greens were slow pace of play 4.5 hrs Moderate degree of difficulty bunkers lack attention and dept of sand. Staff very friendly good place to play for $50
Great golf experience
My son and I went on a miserable drizzly day. I thought it would be horrible. The course was in great condition and we had a blast! One of the better rounds he and I had ever shot. Thank you Reston National!
Reston Nat'l (4/21/14)
The course was actually in pretty good condition. The weather was pretty good, just a little windy. The greens were fairly fast and very challenging pin location but the condition of the greens were a little rough. Overall, worth the $50 but I don't think it's worth much more than that.
One of the better public courses in NOVA
I have played Reston before, but the course was in great shape. The greens were mildly bumpy, but the tee boxes and fairways were great. The pace of play was a little behind normal, but the weather was so nice, that was to be expected.
Good course if you can get a good deal.
For $49 on a weekend, it is a pretty good price. Pace of play was slow towards the back nine. Usually the pace of play is faster but today was a bit slow. Greens are deceiving. They look slow but are fast, looks like its going to break but is a straight putt. Can be very challenging.
Happy to Play in February
Reston National is an excellent track. I have played there for over 30 years, but only once every year or two these days. Our foursome booked a tee time here yesterday because our home course was closed due to recent snow that was still melting. To be honest, Reston National probably should have been closed too - or at least the back 9. It was very wet and the snow had not melted in some shady areas. That being said, we had a blast playing because of our "cabin fever" from all of the bad weather lately. The staff was super nice.
wonderful green
very nice fairway and good green even in winter.
condition would be better in spring.
Conditions were good but pace of play horrible
I specifically made a tee time for 1:24 with every intent to finish before dark. Of course when checking in with starter (who is also the Director of Golf) told us the starting time was 10-15 minutes behind I said "sure it is it's Reston". Well we started 20 minutes late and it was dark by hole 17. 5 hours and 15 minutes later on a Monday no less. Only thing good I can say is the course was in pretty good condition. They should also give you range balls if you are playing there as well.
Poor Time Management
Disappointed with staff ability to manage tee times.
Had reservation for 10:36, did not tee off til 11:05 then had a round of over 5 hours. Waiting for almost every shot for the first seven holes, played two holes and almost got a rythym started then had to wait at 10 again.
This course has no concept of what a reservation is, apparently they have a full reservation sheet yet still jam groups in.
The starter said the where already 25 minutes behind when I arrived at 9:30 to check in. Asked why since there was no frost, fog or rain delay.
Would rather spend time on the weekend playing other courses where you can tee off at your reserved time and play at a decent pace and be done in a little over 4 hours.
As much as I like the layout, not worth the time it takes.
Seems like this is standard weekend antics at this course.
Unless you want to spend the majority of your day standing around waiting, I would not recommend this course.
Well manicured and in great shape
First time playing at Reston National. Staff was friendly and helpful. Front nine relatively open; back nine narrower and more challenging. Fairways in great shape; greens in good shape too. Will play this course again.
Good course - extremely slow
Course is very crowded and has slow play. Lots of traffic, so greens have a lot of ball marks. You pay a lot for location. However, good layout, not too difficult, and playable for many skill levels
Classic Ed Ault design
I grew up playing this course day in and day out from my high school golf days where I played the Front 9 four or five days per week on a weekly basis. Needless to say, the course is practically in my DNA at this point. Not much has changed in the past 10-15 years. Some trees have been trimmed. Some new shrubs planted. But still enjoyable.
One of the things I've come to appreciate more over time is the design of the course. At first glance it's pretty simplistic and then you gradually realize each hole is pretty unique with some themes for the whole course. You can really score well when your ball is in the fairway and there's no real reason to be super aggressive. Just take what the course gives you. The greens are strategically bunkered and the greens undulate near those bunkers. None are multi-tiered but have some spots that are tough to read.
On this day the course was in surprisingly good condition for the time of year. Normally, by this time in NoVA the fairways are burnt in many areas and the greens are a little crusty. Not today. Today everything was very green and rolling true. I hope they continue maintaining the course at this level. The steep price will then be more worth it.
