Legend at Arrowhead, The

About
Located in the west valley, the Legend at Arrowhead Golf Club is an Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay-designed golf course with a traditional layout. The challenging course has six lakes creating water hazards on many of the holes and several doglegs. The difficult to read greens are undulating and in excellent condition. Each hole, except for one, has bunkering on the fairways or protecting the greens. Legend at Arrowhead Golf Club's signature hole is the par-4, 426-yard fifth hole. It calls for a shot off an elevated tee with water running along the right side of the fairway as well as next to the green.

Slow play
Seven minutes between tee times is way too short. Hence a 3 plus hour 9 hole round. Left after nine holes. Course was in good shape , staff friendly but greens were a little fast for me.
Save your money, don’t play here
Course itself was in great shape. Fairways were nice, greens rolled well, and tee boxes were great. If you go out of the fairway good luck. Often hitting on dirt. The real issue with this course is pace of play however. I mean come on. It took me 3 hours and 5 minutes to play 9 holes. No rules at this course as there are people playing in tank tops and jeans. Sucks to see such a nice course wasted by poor management. Will not be back here.
nice value course
with the exception of the pace of play, we've always enjoyed this course. it's just challenging enough to keep your attention. pin placement changes everything. the course location will surprise you with their changes in elevations, challenging water hazards and well placed bunkers, which have sand in them, btw! i prefer a 4-4:15 round, but if they could keep it closer to 4.5 hrs, this course would blow the head covers off many others. so many of these courses need to offend a few people in order to keep the pace of play to reasonable. golf shouldn't have to be an all day affair. plus they could get more rounds in the long run.
Unacceptable
Allow me to preface this review by saying, as a lifelong public course golfer and former caddie, I am extremely tolerant and understanding of the difficulty of operating a golf course. I have never written a review, but I feel compelled to share today's experience at The Unlegendary Arrowhead. To start, the stalls at the range were grassless. For such an otherwise nice facility, it was strange. But, OK, no problem. Then, we teed off at least 5 minutes late and by the 3rd hole were waiting for 10+ minutes on just about every tee box. Throughout the front 9, I saw at least 2 different rangers out there, but they didn't say anything or appear to be encouraging people to play faster. By the 7th hole, we knew we were in for a looong rhythm-less day. Again, I've played plenty of slow public rounds. Far from ideal, but I wouldn't write a review. It comes with the territory. We ended up finishing the front 9 in just under 3 hours, but I was at least looking forward to my chicken caesar WRAP that I called in. And this is where my day at Arrowhead reached a certain level of unacceptability. They have a large sign with the call-in options on the 8th tee, and some of the prices are corrected in black sharpie. I ordered the chicken caesar WRAP, listed at $11. I pulled out a 20 to pay for the wrap and Gatorade, but the bartender said, sorry it's [$23ish] dollars. Turns out, they ring you up for a chicken caesar SALAD for $12 PLUS a $5 extra charge for the chicken. So, the $11 wrap, which was pretty darn small, came out to $17 -- more than 50% more than advertised. After sharing my concerns with the bartender/waiter, he made clear that this has been a long-recurring issue and requested that I speak with the manager. So I called the manager, and he knew exactly what was going on. His "excuses" were disingenuous, and he was clearly aware of the deceptive $6 extra made on each chicken caesar wrap. This was not an honest mistake. When I raised the fact that we had just played a 2:50 front 9, he responded with some nonsense about it being late and did not share an iota of remorse for the slow play. We teed off at 1:10, and the people that teed off at 11:30 most certainly played at the same pace. That's how it works, and he knows this. We ended up finishing the round in about 5 hours 30 minutes. Brutal. And, to think that people teeing off at 2:00 can't even get 18 in - yikes. Overall, the management appears utterly careless and not concerned with the golfer's experience. For such a nice track, it's a real shame that this is how they run their operation. Unacceptable.
Good Course
Greens fairways and bunkers were in best shape in a while.
Course in great conditions
Course is in great condition and the prices is very reasonable for $45. The only down side is I don’t recommend booking tee time after 3PM because you will not be able to finish the round before dark. I started at 4pm and I pretty much had to wait at ever hole and by 7pm I was only at hole 14th and it’s already getting too dark to see.
Amenities need to match the course quality
Golf purists would likely rank course condition and layout as the most important features and on those Legend of Arrowhead rates "excellent" and "average" respectively. The fairways and greens were in top condition with the rough left unwatered. This respectful approach to conserving water also made missing the fairway much less of a concern as the dormant Bermuda grass.offered gentle lies.
Every hole meanders through the nearby housing development, so most holes feature housing on both sides. There's plenty of water; be particularly aware of this on the par 5 6th where a well struck tee shot on the left side of the fairway can find sneaky water.
On the negative side. the carts are old and need replacement. There are no ball washers on the course or the carts, so make sure to bring your own wet towel to clean your golf ball.
The bathroom stop (near holes 7 and 14) is the only on-course source of drinking water so bring your own supply - the carts do have coolers with ice provided.
Ridiculous pace
Averaged 30 min per hole. A 3 some in front of the 4some in front of our 2 some held everyone up. We had to skip 8 and 9 as there were 3 groups stacked on 8 waiting. We decided to to bypass 9 and run to 10 to get infront of the 3 some, only to have them meet us at the tee and refuse to let is play through. 10 was wide open and no one in front in sight. This was 5:00 pm and had to follow. Only got two more holes before sun started to set and decided to call it as frustration, lack of needed concentration for golf and all around bs with no ranger in sight. Paid $100 for nothing but a view of front nine, a 3 some playing like an 9some and total lack of satisfaction for probably the worst round ever.
Ps… I’m a tour member, highly would not recommend nor golf now and will vocalize to anyone interested
Public announcement
One suggestion, install several speakers along the driving range and other practice areas so the starter can inform who the next one or two guest are up.
Best it’s been
To start off I will say this is one of my favorite courses in the valley. The course is in the best shape I’ve seen it. They cleared some trees and redid the bunkers. Both were needed. The fairways were great and the greens were firm and the fastest I’ve seen them. Definitely a must play! A++
Busy Saturday Afternoon
Course in very good condition. Played as a single player matched up for a foursome. Was very busy, so pace of play on front nine slow. Good range and putting green. Very friendly. Challenging but fair.
