Peaks at Tonto Verde Golf Club
About
The Tonto Verde Golf Club offers two uniquely testing 18-hole championship golf courses, each featuring marvelous vistas, smack dab in the middle of the Arizona desert, which have earned honors for their design and playability. The golf courses were designed by David Graham and Gary Panks, who kept the features created by nature when they put together the Peaks golf course, which measures 6,744 yards.
The two golf courses at the Tonto Verde Golf Club feature desert-style target-golf designs, but the designers ensured that golfers of all levels would be able to play them.
The Peaks golf course at the Tonto Verde Golf Club is laid out shorter and skinnier from the tees than its sibling, the Ranch golf course; however, it doesn't offer any less of a challenge for golfers of all levels.

Shotgun Start
I was taken aback when I arrived at the course and was told it was a shotgun start. No problems however and the pace of play was great. Course in outstanding condition. We played the Ranch course and I found it to be challenging and fair. The only disappointment was that it was Monday and apparently the restaurant is closed. This is must play if you don't mind driving 40 minutes from the Scottsdale area, but well worth it.
Great course
One of my favorite golf courses anywhere! Excellent greens ,great layout, fantastic scenery and super friendly staff!
Tonto Verde Peaks course
Course was in great shape - great value. Great greens. Cart girl MIA, but no big deal really...
Good golf at a good price
Tonto Verde is a pretty good deal if you don't mind the drive up there (or are located in Rio Verde). There are two 18-hole courses. We had previously played the Ranch course in 2013 and went out to play the Peaks course this time.
The layouts are similar and feature a lot of the same qualities on both courses; the grass is in great shape all around and the in-cart GPS is very helpful on approach shots. The beverage cart came around often to provide drinks when needed.
Only downsides: not a lot of variation between holes and no elevation changes so after 18 you've definitely seen it all. Also, the front 9 was a bit noisy with construction going around in the area.
2 great courses
I have previously experienced the pleasure of playing the Peaks course but this was my my first round on the Ranch 18. Like Peaks, the Ranch course is good value (perhaps because it's a bit "off the beaten path" out in Rio Verde) but it's also just a good quality golf course. The pace of play (temps were cool this day so that likely scared some away) was fantastic as the 2 of us played in 3 hours and 15 minutes! If you post a good score, you will have earned it!!
I will certainly play it again...
A Very High Level Course
Though I knew this course was out in the east Valley somewhere, I had never really tracked it down. With a Hot Deal available, I decided to find out about this course. Well, I'm here to report this is a very nice course. Though not quite Troon North, it is not to many notches below it. The course is in excellent condition--both fairways and greens. Though not as picturesque as Troon North, it is a close second. It is beautifully worked into the native landscape, making it a visual stunner at times. The facilities (clubhouse, pro shop and range) and the personnel are also top rate. I will be making the trek to this course again soon.
Worth The Drive
Nice course, great greens. Walkable but some length between green and tees. Staff was very friendly. It is quite a drive if coming from anywhere but North Scottsdale
Really pretty course with views of the mountains
Enjoyed our round at this course. Staff very helpful and friendly. Course in good condition (cart only post-overseeding). Greens good also. Bit of a drive from Scottsdale (40+ minutes) but worth it.
Not a place to play again
We new the course was being prepared for overseeding, but we were not prepared for the type of golfers playing, in front was a party of 4 with music playing from the golf cart and sounded as if they were at a football match, we were paired with a couple of guys who didn't stop talking about spread sheets and time sheets during your shot, in fact they didn't stop talking, and behind we had a 4 ball of 4 guys drinking with base ball hats on back to front and making a lot of noise,
I am not a prude but that's not how people should act on a golf course, a lot of money wasted,
Tonto Verde Ranch
It is always a challenging round on the Ranch Course. You have to play to targets and you have to know your distances or you most certainly find the desert, bunkers or water. Beautiful setting and as a Luxury Golf Home Specialist I will continue to introduce my clients to Tonto Verde. John Trojan, Realty Executives, Scottsdale, AZ.
Great summer/shoulder value.
I try to get on the Ranch Course at Tonto Verde at least once a year because it's a fun track with a good selection oh holes.
Great day...
...of golf for a group of vacationing golfers.
Staff was excellent and the course in great condition along with great vistas. Really good value and worth the drive to get there!
Great for this time of year
Course was in great shape from tee to green, especially for this time of year. The only disappointment was the funnest putting green in AZ was closed for overseeding.
perfect day on the Peaks
course was in excellent shape, staff was helpful and friendly especially Fred the Marshall!
Tonto
This is an awesome course not to mention a great price this time of year. Greens were in great shape and by far the best in the area. For anyone vacationing to the Valley I highly recommend this as a MUST PLAY! Not only for the price but for all the course has to offer. The views are spectacular and the friendly staff can't help you enough! Only down fall of our round was a late afternoon monsoon rolled in at the last two holes, but is to be expected this time of year!
Tonto Verde -Peaks
Excellent all around. Great course condition and very friendly staff
Tonto Verde
Fun course to play for the money. Not too difficult but has beautiful views of the Rio Verde Foothills. Free practice balls are also nice. Friendly Staff. Worth playing if you're in the area.
Cool views
This course is way out in the middle of nowhere, which more or less is the reason for the spectacular views of the mountains behind the holes. The range, however, looked more like a cow pasture than a place to hit balls. The fairways were in solid conditions but had some very bare spots on them. The greens were in fine condition and on the slower side. All in all, a fun place to play!
Good News
The golf carts are gas and very slow. That's the bad news. The good news is they are in the process of switching to electric carts!
The out of bounds desert is cleared out which makes finding balls much easier.
