Peaks at Tonto Verde Golf Club
About
The Tonto Verde Golf Club offers two uniquely testing 18-hole championship golf courses, each featuring marvelous vistas, smack dab in the middle of the Arizona desert, which have earned honors for their design and playability. The golf courses were designed by David Graham and Gary Panks, who kept the features created by nature when they put together the Peaks golf course, which measures 6,744 yards.
The two golf courses at the Tonto Verde Golf Club feature desert-style target-golf designs, but the designers ensured that golfers of all levels would be able to play them.
The Peaks golf course at the Tonto Verde Golf Club is laid out shorter and skinnier from the tees than its sibling, the Ranch golf course; however, it doesn't offer any less of a challenge for golfers of all levels.

the course was in great condition. Was easily marked with yardage plagues very abundant .
Not only was the course in great condition, the surrounding scenery makes it very enjoyable experience. The greens had alot of undulation which makes the first time playing a learning experience. Staff was very helpful orientating customers to the grounds.
every hole has a character
Challenging, beautiful surroundings, need to plan your shots. The "washes" on the "tip card"- are wide and deep. If you can't be sure to carry-lay up. They aren't little flat washes, but more like rocky carries.Next time I'll know...
Great course and in great condition
Great course and in great condition. Staff extremely heplful and courteous
great variation of holes, interesting
played alone on cool rainy day
course deserted, so they let me play extra 9 holes
well kept and found errant shots in waste areas 80% of the time
Great golfing experience
The peak's course is in great shape with fast greens that are difficult to read. The fairways are generous but you must keep the ball in the fairway or be penalized. The scenic views from the course are special.
Unfortunately we had a frost delay & were unable to finish 18 holes
Great ammenities, beautiful views!! Wish we could have finished!!! Arrived on time but frost delay set us off 35 min later.
Just a wonderful, wonderful place to play
One of the best golfing experiences in the valley. From the driving area, to the chipping green, to the putting area, and then to the course....a treat. Well placed and deep bunkers, exceptional views and greens that are perfect. If you can't putt you can easily add 6 strokes to your game.
3 Hidden Gems!
Tonto Verde is a wonderful active adult retirement community just NE of the Phoenix area. It is a well kept secret as it is 10 miles east of north Scottsdale, or 10 miles north of Fountain Hills, but an easy and picturesque drive.
Tonto Verde has 2 very good golf courses. The Peaks is probably the easier of the two but challenges you to keep your tee shots in play. The Ranch is a bit more open, but has some very challenging layouts. Both courses are in very good shape with great greens and spectacular views.
But Tonto Verde also has a overlooked 3rd course which is the putting course. It is a full 18 hole real grass and very undulated course. Great views of the two ponds which the putting course surrounds, as well as the clubhouse and the mountains exist from every location on the putting course.
My suggestion is to play 18 holes at the Ranch or Peaks, and then follow it up with the putting course which will take you less than an hour and then enjoy the drink/meal you just earned at their beautiful clubhouse.
Tonto Verde is mostly a private club, but still has some public tees times available. Or you can experience Tonto Verde thru a weekly or monthly rental, of by taking advantage of the 3 day Discovery Program available thru the Tonto Verde website.
Great layout and in great condition.
We went out at 8:15 am before the course would close for the ladies scramble schedule for a noon shotgun start. We would have finished if not for the slow play of the foursome in front us. The starter stop our play on hole 15th because it was near noon when the member ladies started. He agreed to refund our golf fees because we were not at falt for not finishing on time and we were not made aware that we had to be done by noon when we tee off a shotgun start. I would play this course again because management refunded our fees so we can play another time.
Played the Peaks course, course was exceptional.
Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The course was in great shape, the greens were in superb condition, fast but accepted incoming shots. Very playable for all levels if you choose appropriate tee boxes. Practice areas are among the best in Phoenix. Little bit out of the way but worth the drive.
Beautiful course and price...just be aware if limited time available.
Excited to be able to get a foursome out on a perfect day and challenging course. 8am shotgun and had no one in front or behind us all day...perfect. The only problem occurred when the first time we saw a ranger was with 3 holes to go and 3:30 into the round. He told us we had to be off the course by noon for the next shotgun and it was the first we'd heard of it. Didn't get to play the last hole. Staff sure it was mentioned before we started, but none of us heard anything. Would have been able to finish had we known and will go back.
great desert course
This is a truly fine golf course. The views are great and the layout is top notch. I played the middle tees and it was a good test of golf. The back tees would give a low handicap golfer all you would want. The only drawback was that we were not allowed to finish our round because of a scheduled afternoon members event. The course only allowed for 4 hours for our shotgun start which I thought was not reasonable.
Lush and pristine
This course is immaculate and a pleasure to play. The fairways are lush and the greens are perfect. The views are panoramic.I would play this course every day if possible. The only negative was what I consider to have been an error in scheduling. We had an 8:00 am shotgun start with a slow group in the lead group, and a with a members shotgun starting again at 12:00 noon. The window was too short and everyone in the morning group were asked to vacate the course with two holes still left to play. When our foursome complained that we had to wait on every shot all morning and that we were being penalized for either a scheduling or a marshalling issue they apologized and refunded our entire green amount.I would not hesitate to reccomend this course.A beautiful place to play golf.
Beautiful course, good views of the mtns.
Shot gun start made the course very economical. Course was in great condition. Staff was fantastic, friendly & helpful.
The course was fine. I have played it often
The course was fine, good shape , good pace of play, and very accommodating staff
Great track, awesome scenery.
Semi-private club in perfect condition. Very fast greens (they all break towards the Verde River). Course called "the Peaks" as you have great views of Four Peaks and other surrounding mountains. Fun layout for all levels of players. Fairways are a bit narrower than the other "Ranch" course.
A well designed course that offers many challenges
A well designed course that gives the players challenging options off the tee. Not just your typical desert course. Strategic bunkering and smooth rather fast greens that have subtle breaks makes the course
a challenge that most golfers will savor.
Choose the right tee box for your ability. From the black (6900+)and blue tees you will be challenged. The White Tees @ 6200+ offer much for the average golfer.
Very good course.
Fun course in very good condition. Great views of the mountains. Very good practice areas. Good tees, fairways and greens.
Great course, great views of the mountains
Tonto Verde is a mostly member course, at least in the winter. The members are committed to golf and the course maintenance reflects this. The players fill divots and repair ball marks. The course has quite a few natural areas in play, so you have to make some risk/reward decisions.
There was some confusion getting us off. We were on the list in the club house but not on the starters list. The actual round was 4.5 hours.
This course is in great shape with awesome views.
The course is laid out very well and has a set of tees for every player. The greens are true and fast. My only negative about the course was that there was never a beveridge cart available.
