A nine hole Gem
This little nine hole course has everything you want very challenging fairways elevated greens with nice slopes around the holes, which makes it very fun to play. The price is right and the views are spectacular.
Poor staff player management
We arrived about 9:20 for a 10:20 tee time. The staff declared a 1 hour frost delay. We were the 2nd group to go off. The staff said the 1st group was actually 4 ladies groups playing together. They put 1 group on hole 1, then staggered the others on holes 9,8 and 7. We had to wait until the group that started on hole 7 to play 1 before we could go out. There were literally 5-6 groups waiting for the hole 7 players to clear. This was a bad choice by the staff. Starting them on hikes 1-4 wouldn't have caused the long delay before others could go out
The Good, the bad, the ugly
This course is in one of the prettiest locations in Southern Arizona (that is saying a lot, and is sincere). During the round, (I played solo that day), I was treated to seeing a herd of majestic Javalina stroll onto the 3rd hole and linger for a bit-- It was a family of about 20 and they were completely unconcerned about my presence. The fairways were soft and fluffy, allowing for quite a few hits that I just had to stand back and admire their beauty... patting myself on my back and wishing like heck I was not playing solo that day.
The not so great part about playing here is that the putting surfaces are so fast,. Additionally, they are very slope-y... and my theory is that the person in charge of pin placement probably was not hugged very much as child and now sadistically takes it out on golfers by studying the putting surfaces to figure out where the most difficult spots for the cup placements can be charted out.. (That was meant to be funny--but I did find myself thinking, "Cockadoodle ).
I had 3 putts that, on contact, I immediately thought, "Oh crap! I under-hit that!" But then the ball began to pick up speed and ended up so far past the hole that I needed to pack a lunch and extra water to go out and get it. (that was also meant to be funny). On the 4th hole (a beautiful par 3 that has an amazing 50 ft drop and a view that looks fake--its just that beautiful! So anyways, I was putting for birdie (a long putt, but still) and after "barely breathing" on my ball when I tapped it towards the hole, it ended up in a ditch 20 feet below the pin.
Upon returning to the pro shop, I stopped in to see how much it would be to go another round (what can I say... I am apparently a glutton for punishment), and the guy in there was a bit "short" / curt" with me. I always get along with folks, so this was a bit off-putting and I decided to wrap it up and go home instead.
In sharp contrast, the cart guys in the parking lot are always super friendly, a bit professionally playful, and very helpful.
Great day
It was an awesome round! They brought the carts to our vehicle and helped is load them. Very friendly and personable.
Terrific course
My wife and I enjoyed a round of golf here as a pleasant break during our road trip. The course was impeccably maintained and a true delight to play. The pace of play was ideal for us. As we are both new to golf, we never felt pressured, yet we maintained a good pace with the group in front. We would be thrilled to return. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
Aboloutely Picture-Esque! And Well Taken-care of!
I had the pleasure of of walking-on to this course yesterday afternoon as the sunset. And I’m sooo Glad I did (Big thanks Ron @ the pro-shop- he knows what’s goin on… and he has a nice selection of hats there- they nice X-mas gifts). And the Cart-dudes greet you at the parking lot and set you up with Coolers full of Fresh-Ice, and there’s Ice-cold water through-out the course—- this is True Southern-Arizona Style Golf Luxury at its Finest.
I cannot express enough how Beautiful and Picture-Esque- every single hole is! It’s a shame it’s only 9-holes. But you’ll definitely want to play them again after one-round.
The layout of Pusch Ridge reminds of my favorite Jack Nicklaus Designed courses I’ve played in Cabo San Lucas. -every hole is unique and stands alone. On every hole, you’re only looking at one hole, with no risk of ending up in other fairways. (That’s how I like my courses.). And there’s spectacular elevation-changes up & down, and some dog-leg action too, and water hazards, an island-green, … Amazing views of Pusch-Ridge and Oro Valley- It’s got it all. There’s even a couple par-5s that require the Big-dog drives. And every hole is picture-worthy. So it’s really a great place to bring friends and family and take lots of pictures. You are right up in the mountains.
But warning: Hole #1 is intimidating, and I don’t like it. It’s got a mean Dog-leg and a steep elevated green. All the other holes are Super-fun!
Also, the Greens, fairways, tee-boxes all in great (maybe Prime) shape— you can tell that they care about the shape of the greens. They take of the greens with love at Pusch ridge.
Definitely recommending to family and friends, especially out-of-Towners - It’s a great way to experience the natural beauty of Southern Arizona
Pusch Ridge is fabulous
Great, challenging and enjoyable course! Modestly priced, really fun to play.
Tough course, but fun
Tough course for a high handicap like myself. The course is fun and challenging and looks to be well taken care of. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Would play again.
We always have a good time playing this course
Staff was friendly, as always. We play it once a year when visiting Tucson and Oro Valley. When you only have time to get in 9-holes of golf, this course is a great choice.
