Hidden gem
There are some issues here and there on some greens and fairways, but overall it's a nice course. It's challenging enough to really enjoy, but not get to discouraged. It has as good a layout as any of the crazy priced Destin courses.
fairways were so hard you could not take a divot with a shovel. tee boxes so hard could not get tee in ground. I no its been dry but needs water bad.
Great layout
We've driven to Dogwood Lakes a couple of times from PCB. Why, because it's a beautiful golf course without the greedy prices of the coastal courses. You won't get PGA conditions but you will get a great layout with elevation changes, well defined fairways and greens that run well. In addition, the management appreciates you being there.
Hidden Gem of the Panhandle, not so much...
This course offers a unique layout that could make for a really fun round as it has 6 Par 5's, 6 Par 4's, and 6 Par 3's.
However, the front 9 was in pretty bad shape as it was very dry with very little grass to hit off of. The back 9 was in better shape, but still needed a good bit of TLC.
Pace of play... We were a group of 4. By the 3rd hole, we let a single play through. On 8, we waved another single through. That single hit 2 below average shots and was equal to our drives, when another single pulls up to the tee box. We finally got to finish the hole. Finished 9. Hole 10, the 3rd single on 8, decided to drive around us cussing under his breath. Hole 11, yet another single drives by us and tells my son , "we need to let smaller groups play through!" I have never seen that many singles on one course in 30+ years of playing golf.
We aren't pros, but we finished in less than 4 hours despite waiting for 2 very average golfers play through on 2 separate occassions and going back to 17 to get a wedge that was left by one of our players. I play as a single a lot, but try to be very patient as I know that I am really the exception that day. Or I will pair up with others small groups that come up while I wait on a group of 3 to 4 in front of me.
Staff... as aforementioned, we had someone leave a wedge on 17. I had adjusted our slowest players driver setting on 18 tee. He hit it much better. I told him to hit another test ball on 18 tee while his dad retrieved the wedge. 1 tee shot, 1 left behind wedge in hand, driving back to the clubhouse up 18 ( maybe 8 minutes and about 4:45 PM) , and the owner(?) manager(?) Looks like he is driving 50 mph towards us in a cart. He stops to question us rather sternly as to why we turned around. "You just finished 18. I get concerned when I see people finish 18 and go backwards!"
Needless to say, there are 4 golfers that will never return to Dogwood Lakes.
Never Judge A Book...
As we drove onto the property I had one of those "Oh no, what I have I gotten us into!" moments. Let's just say the place has seen better days.
But as we played we found the course itself to be well layed out, playble and in decent shape considering the recent drought. In short, we liked the experience so much we played the next day too.
Don't expect being catered to by attendants, new carts with GPS or emaculate greens and tee boxes. Dogwood Lakes is a bare-bones operation that features a fun and playable layout at a price that's right.
We will be back.
Average Public Course Conditions
For the price it is a good value. If you are looking for pristine conditions go else where. The course and cart paths are a little rough with an average front nine layout. The value lies in the fact the back nine is worth the price of admission . Really liked the back nine. The staff was very friendly and appreciative of the business.
Sleeper Course
Great green's, decent slope, awesome staff, amazing price!
Nice laid back course
Course was in good shape. Small driving range that is sand so don’t expect much there. Good enough to get some practice shots in before your round. Had the second tee time out so during the first 3 holes the sprinklers were on and wetting the green while putting. After those holes, no more sprinklers. For the prices around there you definitely get the best bang for your buck. Had a great time with a great course layout. Would definitely recommend playing there.
Great Value
Golf along the coast of Florida is terribly expensive! Unless you are wealthy, you need to travel inland to find value for your money. This is where Dogwood Lakes stands out. A decent course but. Very good value. I will play there again.
Great Value!
The course is nicely designed and in decent conditions for a Florida Panhandle course of less than $100. The staff is always friendly and I had a fun day. I will play here again as it is a great value for the area.
Needs work
Pretty much every green had sand on it like it was a sand trap, tee box ground was hard as a rock barely could put in a tee without pounding it in, golf cart we had was terrible blew a clutch plate on 9 when I called clubhouse they told me to walk up there and get a cert didn't want to send anyone out to our hole, thank god for one of the crew that drove by and took me up to get another cart. Course layout was great but needs some work really bad not worth 30 bucks to play
Nice layout and decent conditions
The course is fun to play. The course is starting to take shape. The green are pretty quick. The t boxes need work but mostly it’s good
