Golfer Reviews
Headed downghill
I have played Penderbrook a few times over the last 18 months. The care and upkeep given to the course is rapidly declining. This is not a $65 course for Northern Virginia. The Tee boxes are in poor shape as are most of the greens. The best thing you can say about this course is you can get a decent tee time on a last minute basis because there are much better choices out there for the golfer that plans ahead.
Course Looks Good
First time playing this year at Penderbrook. Fairways and greens look good with minimal spring areation impacts on greens (almost recovered completely. roughs were pretty rough but we have had alot of rain over the past week. Looking forward to playing here the next time. The twilight rate is awesome at 25.
Worst customer service!!
I reserved my tee time through Golfnow.com with $25 remaining balance to pay the course for a tee time at 2:40. I was a single player and checked in about 1:00 because my schedule cleared up earlier than expected. They tried to charge me a doubled the amount until I showed them my email confirmation. The course was wide open where I could have teed off with a 2 some right away until they radioed the starter that they wanted me to wait until at least 2! By the time I waited from 1 to 2, there were only 2 groups (less than a 4 some) that went off. Were they trying to teach me a lesson for paying a low price or coming too early or just bad management?!?!?
Just OK
Short track with small, challenging greens. The course would have been way too short and easy, had it not been for the conditions. The rough was long and thick. The greens were small and hard. I play a high ball flight and can spin my short irons a bit, but I had difficulty holding some of the greens. Some of the fairways were in pretty bad shape. Three good drives down the middle ended up with bad lies due to divots and poor grass growth in the fairway.
As far as putting goes, the greens were immaculate. The ran fast and true. Some of the nicer public course greens I have played in this area.
The course is appropriately priced. $65 on a Sunday morning was completely fair for this course. Because of the fair price, I will likely play this course again.
The course is in excellent condition
I really enjoyed playing my round of golf. The service is always excellent and the staff is extremely friendly. The greens and the fairways are in great condition. I love the par 3's which are beautiful and exciting to play. I keep coming back to play every week since the green fees and the twilight fees are very affordable.
Good Location???
I try to be fair in my reviews so let me start with the positives - one of a few public courses near the main DC metro area, great uneven lies with different holes, really friendly staff, and an excellent price with free replays (loyalty card makes it worth it if you play there several times). The negatives of the course start with the length of the course but reaches its climax with the pace of play. It is a very short course but that could be a good thing too for shorter hitters and beginners. The biggest downside of the course is the pace. Due to the rate of the course, there area lot of beginners and others who play at a slower pace so there is a lot of waiting between holes. If you want to get a decent paced round, be there before the post-work crowd gets there. There is also no driving range at this course so warm-up on the first tee.
Great bang for your buck!
Greens were in pristine condition, but the leaf buildup was a bit much. Overall it was a great course, just keep it on the short grass or you will struggle to find your ball! The one bad thing I noticed was the pace of play. Monday pace of play was like a spring Saturday afternoon.
Golfnow does it again!
Incredible value at <$25 through a Golf Now hot deal. Course was in decent shape, and there really wasn't anyone out on a Monday afternoon. Also, if available, they allow you to replay for free. Really can't beat that.
Nice course, Great Price!
My 1st time playing this course but won't be my last. This is nice course and great value.
Penderbrook is a value course.
Penderbrook is a value course. It is a comfortable round, with some non-standard holes stretched between the association town homes. How different some of the holes are dictated by the real estate. Number one a driver friendly hole with the green guarded on the right by a deadly bunker. The green on one is tricky and finally living up to it potential given the new greens keeper. Two needs less than a driver. And three will make you wonder if it was ever in good shape; it looks as picked over as anything at Pohick Bay. Take enough club to get there. The rest of the front is a standard with really interesting holes on 8 and 9. Both have carries over water. Eight requires less that driver off the tee: Nine all you got with a driver and don't go right.
The tenth in the summer months is a 200 plus yard carry over water. One the most challenging three pars in NoVa. Eleven and Twelve are irons off the tee no matter who you are. If you are a golfer that runs on testosterone count on a big score on both holes.
The bunkers are better maintained than than Twin Lakes, that is to say most have sand in them, brown industrial sand, but at sand none the less.
As mentioned before, the greens have improve dramatically. The last day I played they where finally fast enough to protect the score card. If the players keep fixing the ball marks the greens will compare favorably with the local private clubs.
What this course has going for it is a lot of target golf. Keep your ego in check look at the score card for distance and you will have fun.

Yet need some time to re do .att the faiway green banker
short course
The course is well maintained with difficult greens to read. Unfortunately the home owners have taken away the best hole on the course. A down hill par 4 with the second shot over water. Not anymore, the green is now on the fairway side of the water and makes for a much easier hole. The course can give you problems for a course that only measures less than 6200 yds.
Not worth the money.
Played a scramble on a Saturday morning. Moved pretty quick and didn't have to wait on many shots. However, the course wasn't in great shape (especially for what they are charging) and the layout isn't overly interesting. Can easily find a better course for similar money or a much better course for a couple bucks more. Bugs were terrible for most of the round.
The course is way over crowded
I had not played at this course in a long time so I thought I would try it again. Now I remember why I quit going back there. They put so many golfers on the course that it takes forever to play a round. We waited at evey hole. The Marshalls were out riding around but they never stopped to ask the slow groups to pick up the pace. It is a nice course but if you go you had better pack a lunch. The foursome I played with said they would never go back there again. It is not worth playing there at any price.
Now in good shape
There is new mgmt. and the course was in outstanding shape!I get a senior discount and with that it's a very good value.
