Golfer Reviews
Bring bug spray!
The course was fairly maintained. I definitely wouldn't pay the normal $50-$60 price. The bugs were horrible! Until I was able to get some bugspray from the beer girl I was miserable. Also, there were way too many Canadian geese. It would be one thing if they just walked around but they make a big mess everywhere. If you take the geese and the bugs out of the equation it was a decent course.
Still hurting
For $70 I expected more. Fairway were not very good. Tee boxes needed to be moved. Greens were ok. Layout is cool with me, but could have gotten nicer golf with the money. I think it's worth about $49 tops as it is now.
Needed Attention!!!
The condition of the coarse was not so good! Greens were actually OK and not terrible but the fairways and overall condition were poor. Lots of rain in the previous 12 hours did not help but some of the fairways were absolutely awful! If I had not paid $70 it would be OK. I play $35-$40 courses in better condition.
don't be fooled be lack of distance.
this course is moderately priced and in much better condition than normal, as are most courses in May/June before the summer heat and humidity bake it. Amen corner here is holes 8,9,10. 8th hole 2nd shot is over water if you can even land your tee shot on the narrow fairway with water on left. 9th hole is a tee shot of 200 yards or you're wet. 10th hole may be the most difficult par 3 in northern Virginia - 190 yard carry over water to a well bunkered green. If you get past these 3 holes without losing a ball you've really accomplished something.
great experience, friendly staff, great value.
I enjoyed the experience at Penderbrook Golf Club. The staff was attentive and friendly, the course was well-maintained, and the pace of play was adequate. The course could use more water dispensers... it was a very hot day and I remember seeing only one water station. Thanks Perderbrook, thanks Golf Now!
Kind of a poor range of responses in the survey, I would say value is better than average, but not great. My friends thought it was too challenging.
My friends thought the course was too challenging, but they are beginners. Been playing the Brook since the late 80s. I understand Palmer mgmt is being replaced next month, so hopefully they'll restore number 12 to its former high difficulty. It would be nice if the new crowd required the former pro, who was a nice guy, though all the folks currently there are also nice.
Course was in decent shape the usual issues, no grass on the 8th tee, a few favorite trees didn't survive winter, scum pond on #3, and the white tees were moved up to the red tees on number ten c'mon that's no fun!
Anyway, always like the track and for $56 seemed fair
Do not play this course
The course was greatly overcrowded. I did not tee off until more than 30 minutes after my scheduled tee time. My playing partners had to wait for a cart. The pace of play was ridiculously slow. I only completed nine holes in four and a half hours. At one point, there were four groups stacked up waiting on hole number four. Will not play this course again anytime soon.
Pace of play slow on a Wednesday afternoon. No marshalls around to speed up play.
course in average condition.. Greens on the day I played after several days of rain were very fast and pin placements were right on ridges of the green where ball speed has to be perfect to prevent 3 putts. Holes 10/11/12 involve water hazards. Hole 12 170 yard or more carry over water , tiny green to hit. I don't like the design of this course much. Good for ball striking practice and tee shots on narrow fairways. Grass hadn't been cut in the 2nd cut of rough near the greens. Hard to get out. Sand traps are were not maintained well after the recent rains so that is an adventure if you get in.
Closest to Arlington for a decent price
Not the best course to play in the area, but quick to get to and you can walk this course. Once of the reasons why I love this course is the fact that you can walk it. Usually on the weekends it is a 5+ hour round of golf though.
Excellent course for the Money!
I play here on a regular basis simply for the bang for the buck. I normally pay between $25-35 per round depending on time of day. It usually includes two draft beers as well. This past round I played was directly behind a golf tourny which they failed to inform us of, if they would have I would not have played. It was a VERY slow round. Greens are a bit slow but the approach shots stick fairly well. You can go right for the pin on most holes. No driving range is a big downfall. They have a small net that you can hit balls into.
Dog Track
The price was decent for a Saturday afternoon and included a cart, so I don't want to complain too much. But there was nothing even average about the course. I should've thought twice when I looked at the score cards yardage before the round, you literally never have a reason to hit driver, even playing from the tips.
Not even close to worth the hefty price...
Even with a GolfNow deal, this course was still almost $70 w/cart. The greens were fast, but covered in ball and spike marks. Having so much water on the course was a little gimmicky, and felt like it was poor compensation for how short the course is (6100 from the tips). Fairways were bumpy and patchy, and all the tee boxes were completely torn up with hacker divots. I'm terrified to find out what they charge for a weekend round when it's not booked through GolfNow. Either way, I've played a lot of really terrible courses and a lot of really nice courses, but I definitely felt like I threw money away on this one...
OK for $25...Saturday = Amateur Hour
The course was overbooked; 1 tee time ever 6-7 minutes.
People hit into us 4-5 times, despite the group in front of us still being on the green.
Waited on almost every hole.
If the course was empty and I could play at a reasonable pace, I'd rate the course around a 2.9/5 (5 being Augusta National).
Interesting holes, patchy rough
The course had a very interesting and challenging layout. Not unfair but relatively tight. Greens were slow. The rough was patchy at best which caused many ridiculous lies. Overall the course still needs quite a bit of TLC.
The pro shop was cordial. The snack bar/restaurant staff was a bit stand surly.
Short but challenging
We played this course expecting a walk in the park by looking at the map and the hole layout on the scorecard. The course has a subtle difficulty in the rolling hills and challenging greens.
The grass was well maintained and the tee boxes were immaculate.
Plus the starter was very accommodating when I called to add a golfer after making the tee time on Golfnow.com.
course looked really nice, there was definately a backup at the starter
the course layout is fun, the fairways and especially the greens were really nice this time of yr. The only drawback was the backup on the tee. There was an estimated 30min delay but it turned out to be a little shorter. We did have to wait a few minutes behind groups groups but the pace was pretty fast.
Greens were in great shape for November.
Fast and small and full of movement. Course was in good shape from tee to gren as well. Complete lack of yardage on the course except for stripes on the paths and the 150 stake.
