River Marsh Golf Club - Hyatt Chesapeake Bay
About
The Hyatt River Marsh Golf Club is Maryland's leading Eastern Shore golf course. The classic design incorporates challenging elements including sculpted bunkers and mature trees but balances them with wide, player-friendly fairways and inviting greens. Water has a prominent presence on the course with Shoal Creek meandering through the course and the Choptank River serving as a backdrop to many of the greens. The riverside golf course has the look and feel of a seaside links course. The final two holes are the golf course's most memorable. The par-3 17th requires a dramatic carry over Shoal Creek to a large green strategically guarded by three bunkers. The 17th is a challenging and scenic hole but it only sets the scene for Hyatt River Marsh Golf Club's final hole. Touted as one of the best holes in the Mid-Atlantic region, this classic risk-reward par 5 has a bunker and the Choptank River running its entire length.

Maintenance
I have played this course dozens of times. Well kept couse. Most recent trip, the fairways haven't filled in yet and the greens were recently punched and sanded. Bumpy and slow. That's to be expected.
always a fun day at the Hyatt!
recently added fresh sand to all the traps.
staff friendly as always!
2024 planted grass still needs to grow a bit but showing good signs of greening up and filling in.

Course was in relatively good shape considering winter conditions continue.
Zoysia grass hasn’t turned green yet but greens & tees were ok
Growing pains
First this is my home course. Last summer they cleared the fairways and tee boxes to go from bent to bermuda grasses. It is trying to take hold, but we had a very dry summer and fall, and a cold winter, and so far this spring has been cold. So the course is sort of neglected since there isn't much you can do for now-------, but in sure it will perk up soon. Sand traps are not racked, no rakes available and are hard. Most greens were ok, some need attention, but once again it's winter time still, so not expecting much. Got it on a "hot-deal" price so hard to pass up at the heavily reduced rate. ($36). Looking forward to it coming around, and it was still fun to play regardless.
Cold and wet
Great round, given that it is February. I was able to get around quickly, as few folks play when it is only 45 degrees out.
The course was wet as a result of past snow and recent rain. Experienced standing water on some of the fairways. The greens were also bumpy and slow as they had not had a chance to tend to them for some time, understandably so. Bunkers had not been raked, and oddly enough, I didn't see any rakes. They were hard.
The course was definitely playable. All the regular tee boxes were in play and no temporary greens, which is a huge plus.
