Lago Vista Golf Course
About
The Lago Vista Course is Lago Vista resort’s original track, designed by Leon Howard in the late 1960s and renovated by Dave Bennett in 1992. The golf course has four water holes, more than 40 bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes of up to 100 feet. Lago Vista is known for its demanding par 3s, which all go right at 200 yards. No. 10 is fun because it can be reached in two: a 495-yard par 5 with a creek that looms right.
Getting to Lago Vista: From Austin, take Hwy. 183 north to FM 1431, then turn west 11 miles. When you come to Lohmas Ford Rd. turn left and drive 3 miles, then turn right on Boggy Ford R. Veer to the right and follow the signs to the golf course.

Looking down on # 9 green. and a big buck Photo submitted by hoffmonster on 10/21/2012
Course is very bad condition
The fairways are dry grass, burnt by the sun. What green grass there is weeds. The greens have minimal grass with over half the surfaces in dirt and sand.
It appears that no water has been applied to this course in two months or more.
Course in awful condition
Some greens had more dirt than grass showing. Even the fairways / tee boxes were in poor shape. The greens were in such bad shape I will not bother playing there again.
Bad green condition
The condition of green was way much below average. Needs to take care of it. Everything else was fine and friendly deers were good to see.
A little pricey for the current course conditions
They have raised the rates to $45 for this course but the quality of the course has regressed. The greens need a lot of work. Most all of the tee boxes were very lumpy.
This is a tough course because it is so hilly. You will rarely be hitting a flat lie. You have to really balance your stance.
This is a scenic course overlooking Lake Travis and lots and lots of deer everywhere.
This would be a pretty nice course if they could get the greens in shape and mow the fairway. It is deep.
Don't waste your time.
The food service was slow! The pro said the greens were coming along.... they were horrible! Dirt patches everywhere. Take it from me don't waste your money!
Really poor condition
Played this course and realised after first hole the condition of the course was really bad. Played 7 holes, that was enough
There are no fairways as grass about 4 inches high with bare patches all over.
Greens were mainly sand with many areas of the greens unplayable.
Appears there is a lot of work to be done to get this course into condition where it would be worth playing
Ive seen better practice areas than the "fairways"
Ask about conditions before you pay your money!
Emailed management and they are aware there are many course issues to resolve.
As the layout and scenery are good I hope they invest the time and money to get this right
Sad to see this course go down hill so fast
I love this course, it's one of my favorites in the area but here lately it's gotten so hit or miss on the condition of the course that it's not worth the gamble.
My family and I played there Sat (4/15/17). There were multiple greens that didn't even have grass, several others that were patches and still mostly sand. The rough was so tall and needing to be mowed that if you hit in it, ball lost. The fairways were in rough shape too. Multiple times I hit in the fairway and barely lost my ball from weeds, over grown grass, not mowing.
When this course is being taken care of, it's a beautiful and wonderful course to play; but just not worth paying to find out anymore. Not sure what the issue is because there are plenty of other course in the area that are cheaper or same price and are in almost perfect condition.
hate to see this course go down hill so fast...and this is the first review I've written about a course.
No fairways & no greens
I was visiting the area and found this course on Golfnow. I regret playing this course. There is no distinction between the fairway and the rough. It is all the same. The greens are totally littered with sand and tire marks. I would not play this course again for free. The staff did not even bother mentioning that the greens were were aerated.
Good Course but Greens Under Aeration
My wife ad I like the Lago Vista course. It gives you a true Hill Country golf experience with great views and a nice course layout. Our only complaint was the greens had just been aerated and sanded so the putting was poor. It would be good if course posted this o their site prior to golfers booking.
You get what you pay for
Headed out to play Sunday per a recommendation from my work buddy. I like the challenge of new courses so I never try to stay at the same "home course" like many golfers do. Learning to play different terrain sharpens my mental game and helps me overall I feel. This course is perfect for that! No it's not a country club but the views and course layout are enough to keep any true golfer who loves the challenge of a blind fairway or huge elevation changes for example. Sure the course could use some maintenance but the views of this course alone along with the challenging play make up for that. Any true golfer would have a good time. If your looking to play an easy round where your never having to really think twice before a shot, this course might not be for you. If your looking to have a good golf challenge for a fair price this is not a bad course. The rates they charge are less than that of hill country links courses... who wants to play something boring like that when you can play here!
Visitors from Michigan
The front nine was the worst that I have ever played. Maybe it was just the season. ???
The back nine was decent and enjoyable.

Great golf, great views!
Lago Vista GC is in pretty good shape overall. There were a couple of greens that need some attention, but overall you can't beat the price, and the location for some scenic views of Lake Travis. Staff is great and we're usually not rushed even on the weekends.
Inconsiderate Players
I've played this course twice now and both times I've had to skip a hole to pass up inconsiderate players. The course is awesome, but it seems the people who play here have no experience or just don't care to let faster players to play through. I may try again and see if I can get a full 18 in.
Good time for all
Green and fairways are rough this time of year. Still had a good time with friends. Good burger at cafe.
Lago vista golf course
Golf course average layout, many blind shots from the tee box. Conditions of the the greens overall extremely poor shape, only 2- 3 greens nice!? Asked the staff in pro shop if the course was busy, since i was playing by myself, no response!? Caught up to a group of two players on second hole, only three groups let me play through. Marshal was total useless, never asked any groups to let me play through, told me to slow down my pace, so I would not bother them during their round.Immediately in front of me, the group of a foursome took a minimum of 5 to 6 shots to get to the green even on par three holes. The members of that group could not hit the ball more than 100 yards!!? Maybe a group of players like that should play the red tees only! Or maybe they should show some golf etiquette, and let the single play through! This group was so slow playing that two groups of foursomes were climbing up my back side. Poor golf conditions, crazy blind tee shots all over the course and sad performance by golf staff equals poor golf experience for a avid golfer, do your self a favor, don't play here unless your looking for a pathetic/sorry golf outing!!?
Lago Vista
I had a great time playing here! I scored very well (for me )! The greens were in good shape, beautiful views, wildlife galore (a fox actually sauntered across the fairway)! The staff person checking me in was super nice & helpful! Other golfers were very courteous and let me play through. The hills were a challenge as were the blind fairways. All in all a very fun day!
Course Review
The course layout is good. The views were great. Only problem was the greens. Front nine greens had little or no grass.
Thanks Tom Jennings
