The Lago Vista Course is Lago Vista resort’s original track, designed by Leon Howard in the late 1960s and renovated by Dave Bennett in 1992. The golf course has four water holes, more than 40 bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes of up to 100 feet. Lago Vista is known for its demanding par 3s, which all go right at 200 yards. No. 10 is fun because it can be reached in two: a 495-yard par 5 with a creek that looms right.

Getting to Lago Vista: From Austin, take Hwy. 183 north to FM 1431, then turn west 11 miles. When you come to Lohmas Ford Rd. turn left and drive 3 miles, then turn right on Boggy Ford R. Veer to the right and follow the signs to the golf course.

Very hilly with great views

Fun to play this course but be prepared for steep hills (up and down) and holes that require careful management to score well.
No range balls available the day we played. No starter or marshals either even though the course was crowded.

Prepare to be wowed...

Incredibly well kept fairways and greens. Very challenging for this newbie, but so much fun. Crowded so we were paired with two great buys Bill and Ray, luckily too as they had played there before and we (hubby and I) hadn't.

We took a break under a shade tree before hitting the back 9 and were left solo for the rest of the course. We couldn't have had a better time. Good people, good equipment, great greens... what more can I say??

Challenging course

Enjoyed the course greatly. The only down fall would be the slow play, but it was Saturday and everyone was out playing.

Beautiful and the grass is in great shape.

The only thing missing here, is good yardage markers and pin placement cards. This can be done for almost nothing. Some of the par three yardages are off by almost 40 yards and it is difficlut if not impossible to see where the pins are located, on many greens, until you are on the green.

Great course

Awesome course. I loved the views off the tee box on the back nine. Be sure follow the directions of the signs to check for people on the fairways. They have two blind holes are awesome.

Good Course with Great views!

Lago Vista Golf Course is a great play for the money! There are beautiful views of the Texas hill country all along the course, and plenty of Deer on the course as well. The Lake (LBJ) is down about 80 feet but is still a commanding prescence. The course was well maintained,Lush, and the Greens were soft which made for easy scoring conditions. The course offers many elevation changes and undulations which will challenge your club selection. Pro shop and Food/Grill are available as well as adult beverages.

The course is in great shape, the best that I have seen it. The recent rains may have helped.

The fairways were in great shape, the greens excellent. The only exception that I would make is that some of the tee boxes are not level, making it an issue to set up for teeing off.

Excellent value!

Decent condition for winter. Not as good as one would expect from an expensive country club, but Lago Vista is not an expensive country club. Although not a particularly difficult course, it is fun and the terrain is beautiful. It's a great course for $28.

There were also deer all over the place. All but two holes had deer, and I'd estimate there were fifteen deer per hole, if not more.

No birdies, but plenty of deer!

This course has plenty of challenge to go with the numerous deer. The front nine seemed a little more playable than the back nine. The biggest issue I have with the course was the distance markers did not match the scorecard and it played longer than the numbers posted. Worth playing at least one time, but not on my return list.

everything was fine.

Hope i can be informed of cold weather and might be delayed due to frost. In the winter season and in some golf clubs, i got experienced delay once i arrived and checked in.

Hill Country golf at it's best!

Lago Vista is a hidden gem that golfers should play when they get a chance. Lago includes wide fairways, rolling terrain, cleverly placed bunkers, elevated tee boxes, large undulating greens, and great views of Lake Travis & the Hill country -not to mention hundreds of deer. The par 3's are long with alot of carry but par 4's allow for chances to score if irons are accurate. #9 is a great hole with tiered fairway. Several blind shots required so playing with a local helps out. #8 & #15 are monster par 5's. Course was in great shape and greens roll true. One of the best values Golfnow has. I can't wait to play it again.

Best deal around

On hole #16, you get a dramatic view of the drought ravaged Lake Travis. Then you realize how well maintained this course is. Although most fairways are generously wide, this are still some challenges in this layout. The staff is wonderful and the price is right. I highly recommend this course.

The course was in great shape!

LVGC was a delight to play. The staff greeted us promptly and were very friendly. The Marshall meet us on the course two times. He told us about the replay specials and asked that we come back to play. He also told us how to play a couple holes as this was our first time visiting LVGC. I was very impressed by how kind and professional everyone was. The course was in great shape. The greens were rolling true and smooth. I would not say fast, about a 9 on the stimp. Fairways had lush grass that was green. A couple of the bunkers needed to be worked as there are some inconsistencies in play. The course played a little challenging as we had high winds that day. I would think with lower winds it would have less bite and be a bit more fun. Overall for the price, I would definitely try this course. We will be back and take advantage of the inexpensive replays.

Ups and downs ... and elevation changes too

This course has certainly improved over the years since the City of Lago Vista took it over. On my recent visit, the greens were in great shape and the fairways nice and full without any dead spots. This course has quite a bit of up and down to it ... this in turn gives you a few quirky holes and some blind shots. Repeat visits only make it that much better as you get to know the course. It can a drive to get out to Lago Vista, but the scenery is calming and the wildlife plentiful.

Great Course

Great course, friendly staff. Terrific value. Be sure to try the pulled pork sandwich. All of the houses facing the course with their plate glass windows was a bit unnerving.
