About
Makray Memorial Golf Club (formerly known as Thunderbird Country Club) is a public course that has been open since 1962. To commemorate 40 years of great golf, the course was remodeled and revamped in 2002. The renovations improved its playability and also made it more challenging. The championship-caliber layout features strategically placed bunkers, including some Scottish-style sod-faced ones, and tricky water hazards on several holes. The hilly terrain offers both challenging elevation changes and scenic views. The golf course finishes with a long par 5 that plays across a canyon of berms to a narrow fairway. Further accuracy is needed to reach the well guarded green surrounded by high berms, a pot bunker to the left, and a deep, steep bunker to the right. In addition to the course, Makray Memorial G.C. boasts an extensive practice facility with 1 1/2 acres of grass teeing ground, two putting greens, and a short-game area.

Challenging track
Greens were slick and in good shape. Fairways full of divots in spots but otherwise beautiful.

Our group have to make separate tee times . Starter made arrangements to put us together in the same group, it worked great. Thank you so much. We liked course very much and will return for an outing.
Lightning Fast Greens
Very nice course in very good condition. Greens are always fast and putts can really run past the pin, especially when putting down-hill. Beautiful clubhouse with good food and drink.
Mackray
Great layout, greens are very tricky if above the hole. For a high end public course , the conditions are well below par. Not sure if they are short workers but greens are just covered in pock marks. Does no one fix pitch marks on greens? Something needs to be done for greens, fairways were spottty as many unfilled divots. A course this good and tough should have conditions that match the layout and that is not the case currently
Green speeds and cups cut on ridges
Beautiful course overall. Playing conditions were exceptional. I like a good challenge but about a third of the holes were cut on ridges on the crazy fast greens. Most of our foursome needed to lay up putts not to three putt, lol.

Beautiful course
Beautiful course. Well groomed, great layout with very nice staf & rangers.
Greens are incredibly challenging where sometimes u don’t get rewarded for a good shot or putt.
Great Track
Have played the course for many years and feel it's one of the most difficult tracks around the Northwest Suburbs. The Staff was very professional and courteous. My only negative was that the greens weren't in the best of shape and cut too short.
Fantastic venue
With a beautiful clubhouse and scenic views Makray is one of the best courses I’ve ever played. The layout was fantastic. The greens looked a bit brown but ran true and dang were they fast! The only two things I can say bad about the place was at $95 dollars why am I sliding 1 dollar bills into an old range ball machine. Make the balls free. The sand traps were very low below the level of the greens and they had no sand in them. So u couldn’t use bounce. I’m a 2 handicap and had trouble getting out of them and then to stop them on greens that ran 12 and sloped away from you made the course so much harder. Overall though this place is a 9/10. Id definitely go back.
