About
Makray Memorial Golf Club (formerly known as Thunderbird Country Club) is a public course that has been open since 1962. To commemorate 40 years of great golf, the course was remodeled and revamped in 2002. The renovations improved its playability and also made it more challenging. The championship-caliber layout features strategically placed bunkers, including some Scottish-style sod-faced ones, and tricky water hazards on several holes. The hilly terrain offers both challenging elevation changes and scenic views. The golf course finishes with a long par 5 that plays across a canyon of berms to a narrow fairway. Further accuracy is needed to reach the well guarded green surrounded by high berms, a pot bunker to the left, and a deep, steep bunker to the right. In addition to the course, Makray Memorial G.C. boasts an extensive practice facility with 1 1/2 acres of grass teeing ground, two putting greens, and a short-game area.

Pond Scum
The areas around the ponds and wetlands are in bad shape. They are adjacent to several holes and have suffered erosion and are a mess.
Like a Private Round
Played this course in front of a large outing. After a short rain delay it was like have the course to ourselves. The course is in great shape and we would definitely play here again.
Great course
Played day after a few days of very heavy rain but the course was in surprisingly good shape. Played in a little over 4 hours despite being restricted to cart paths. Greens are tough and fast!
Rangers are unfriendly
Had a Ranger stair me down while I putted, then told me to pick up pace after I was in my cart and driving away. I was right on top of the guys in front of me, but ranger insisted I hit immediately. I hit into the group in front of them creating chaos and a fight almost broke out. Beautiful course, recommend going- just ignore the rangers. They will yell at you even if you do nothing wrong, don't let is bother you and ruin your round, rest of the course is great.
Fast greens, no shade.
Tough course with many uphill approach shots to super fast greens. Green fees are pretty steep, so I can't recommend this course as a good value.
Slick Greens
Make sure you practice putting. The greens are extremely fast and tricky. Everything else was in excellent condition.
Excellence
Country club experience at upscale public price. Incredibly friendly staff, fast but fair greens, varied layout and routing, and well maintained. A great course I'll return to
Fun Course. Brutal Greens
The course layout is challenging and fun. The greens were extremely fast; they looked in need of watering. Overall a tough round but an enjoyable course. Water coolers filled with ice cold bottles of water on the course made the 95 degree weather slightly more tolerable. Grass practice range has affordable buckets too.
Beautiful layout
Tough fast greens, absolutely perfectly maintained, great friendly staff. I'll be back.
