Golfer Reviews
Incredibly Enjoyable!
The staff was friendly. The practice range, puttting green, and short game practice areas were great. Then the course....
Stepping onto the first tee gave me hope for what might await. A fairway pot bunker about 200yds out into a 419yd hole splits the fairway into two landing areas. The upper fairway will give you slightly longer approach, but a better vantage point to the green than the lower fairway. The green was receptive, and they roll beautifully.
There are 500+ yd par 5’s and 306yd and 320yd par 4’s offering outstanding risk-reward resembling Pete Dye designed courses. The five par 3’s range from 119yd to 190yd, and flag placements will determine landing zones not to be messed with.
My only regret is not being able to stay long enough to play another round while I was here. Enjoy!! I know I did...
Beautiful course
The course was beautiful and in great shape. The practice facilities were closed because it was a Tuesday and they always close the driving range on Tuesdays for repairs. I thought they should have rearranged the schedule given the holiday, and been better prepared for the rush.
Tough test
I played from the tips and am a scratch golfer. It was hard! The rough was long and made it near impossible to reach the green. Greens were excellent which is really all I care about. The kid who was starter didn’t know what he was doing which was unfortunate because it was the busiest day of the week I’m sure. Overall a good day
Nice layout
Easy booking through golfnow. Range was nice. Practice bunker is a nice feature to have. Love the links style of the course. Will definitely be back once the course dries out.
Thanks - glad you enjoyed your day at Blue Mash!
Slow play/High Rough
This is a nice course. It's pretty open but has a lot trees and underbrush so if you're not straight there's trouble lurking. Let's talk rough. The length of the rough AND the fairways on the par 3's was so long (3-4 inches) it was extremely hard to find a ball. I felt I was playing in the US Open! I was short of the green on a par 3 what should have been the fairway and I lost a ball due to the high grass. There's no need to keep the rough that long if you're trying to attract average golfers to play there. Pace of play was EXTREMELY poor. We got behind a foursome and they did not play ready golf. It took 5 hours for the round. There were no marshals on the course so we could only grind our teeth and wait. On the positive side the fairways were great, soft and thick. The green had been aerated 2 weeks ago so they were fairly rough. Nice course but could be better with more mowing of the rough and a more keen eye on the pace of play.
Thanks for your review - had rain 9 out of last 10 days so tough to get all of the mowing done. I think a lot of courses had the same problem the day you played. Sorry about the pace - that is unacceptable and we will get it fixed!!
Really nice track
Enjoyed Blue Mash thoroughly . . . Interesting layout, very good conditions, friendly staff, grass range, and reasonable rates . . . We’ll be back. Wish we had this course in Virginia!
We are so glad you enjoyed your day at Blue Mash! We look forward to serving you again.
Worth the drive
Course wet fron heavy rain so cart path only - added 30+min
One of the DMV's best
Excellent golf course. Every time I go I'm reminded how much fun this layout is, a but of a mix of links style and parkland golf. The course is in beautiful shape right now and the staff is always top notch. Do yourself a favor and play.
Thanks so much for your kind review!
Excellent Track
As Usual Blue Mash Is A Great Course With The 3 Toughest Starting Holes In Md And 3 Tough Finishing Holes. the Course Was Still Very Wet From The Snow which made it play even harder than usual. I would Play here more often but it’s Really Over Priced even in the Off Season. Could believe what they charged to play on Such a Cold Bad weather day
This is a very nice & challenging layout. The course was in very good condition for February, the staff is quite friendly, and the 19th hole has a good selection (try the Blizzard!)... My primary complaint with Blue Mash is that there are much better values around. I'm glad I played this course again (it had been a long time), but it won't be in my normal rotation unless a bargain pops up on GN. My only other complaint is that there is no course layout on the scorecard, no hole layouts on the hole signs, and no GPS in the cart to indicate distances to hazards. If you don't have a range finder, either print out the hole layouts from their website, or purchase a yardage book (or take your chances).
Hi Mr. McGlade, thank you for your review. We do have a free yardage book available in the golf shop - I'm sorry the staff did not bring it to your attention. With the availability of gps phone apps and rangefinders, we have elected to keep technology out of the golf carts. Lastly, we usually have nice low rates available for those that book ahead online. Cheers!
This course has a very serene feel to it.
The course was in very good condition for late October. The greens were challenging but very interesting. I highly recommend it.
Thank you, the range is ony closed in the mornings, but that is a good point - we should have tried to do the range in the morning. I believe extreme heat was an issue that prevented us from getting that done on Monday.
