Nice layout but needs some care
I really liked the layout of the course. Couple things really bothered me tho. There was no map or hole pictures on score card or hole markers. Hard to know where to hit it if you've never played there before. Also the yardage on the scorecard didn't match tee hole markers. Sometimes it was 20 yards different others were 100. Updating that would make a huge difference.
Great course
This course was in great condition. Still challenging for the longer hitters. Placement off the tee is crucial. Overall great course to play
Interesting course
Nice little course. Good value. Front nine very good. Back nine has some sketchy spots, but very playable. Knowing the course would be a great advantage.
Course is in great shape
Course is beautiful, well maintained, greens were good and also very fast. Fairways are narrow creating a small margin of error in numerous places but makes it interesting.
Getting better
This is a good course for a very amateur golfer like me. Not a lot of water hazards. Condition of the course continues to improve. Tee boxes and greens were in good shape. Greens were very fast. One of the best values in the ares.
Best shape in years
Best deal for the dollar in central Kentucky,, yes there are some rough spots in the fairway,, but the rough is thick and the greens are slick. They have put time and effort into this course and it really shows.
It's ok
Great value for the money. However, the back 9 is in horrible condition. The fairways are in such bad shape. Also there isn't a driving range and one tiny putting/practice green.
beautiful views in bluegrass
The course has been changed, since my last visit to the region. Interesting holes on new portion with some beautiful views of the river on the back. Greens were a little rough, but it is March. This course is worth your time, and I think you will be pleased with the round.
Getting Better
As a local I have played Canewood numerous times over the last few years...the course offers a relatively challenging layout...according to the pro shop attendant the tee boxes will be opened up in March...still some dead spots on the back that will give you trouble but it is February. A lot of good work going on here...good value for the money
Good course
A good course for the price. In good shape with fast greens. Very good value
Needs work
The tee boxes were in bad shape, the fairways were good, greens, good, the area between the tees and greens on par 3's needed mowing.
Not bad
Course is a neat, tight, smaller course. Whole play all around is really cool, but their tee boxes are a mess, although it looks like they are trying to repair them.
Canewood Casual Round
Course was in fair condition after some heavy rains the days before. Ruff was tall and difficult to fine the ball when you missed the fairway. The fairways were a bit saggy, but with all the rain to be expected. Greens were in very good shape, but some what inconsistent on speed. Over all it was a good round, for meeting a old friend and just having fun. Ended up getting the Hot Deal so the value was great.
Good if you get if get a good deal.
I paid 16 bucks to play at 1pm on a Sunday. Greens were surprisingly fast, played kinda tight in spots.
Disappointed Outing
Extremely disappointed with Canewood Golf Course....the lack of attention on the fairways and the areas of unattended mowing gives the appearance of either they don't care or the inept staff for the attention to detail is lacking.....allot of work or staff changes necessary to restore the course to decent conditions.......a long way to go to be a great experience again.
Challenging to the average golfer
Canewood is an excellent challenge to the average golfer. In the summer months the greens are lightning fast and very well maintained. The signature holes of this golf course are the Par 3 14th, Par 4, 15th and Par 5 16th which run along Elkhorn creek. These holes offer a challenge and a very scenic view. Overall I play this golf course 4-5 times per year and always love the challenge it presents.
Decent course for the public
Overall the course was fun to play. I must say I was a little disappointed in the condition of the Tee boxes and the cart paths. It was either broken up with pot holes or completely covered in dirt and mud. The tee boxes had a lot of divots that hadn't been fixed. There wasn't much signs offering any directions as to where to go. i got turned around twice and had to ask residents where holes were.
I only played 9 but shot fairly well for my skill set. Par 3's were good distances and the Par 4's can be birdied pretty easily if you hit a nice shot off the Tee.
I would recommend it for anyone looking to get in and play. But don't expect a beautiful course.
Hole 8 was supposed to be a par 5 by the course signs that are up on the cart path. To my surprise the T Box was out in the middle of the fair way and it had been turned into a par 3. That caught me a little off guard.
