Very picturesque on the back nine.
The course was in good shape. The greens especially on the front side appeared to be fighting a fungus. No wonder with as much rain as we have had in this area. Only gripe, I got lost twice navigating from green to tee on numbers 7 and 12. need more signs where you actually turn, Subdivision has grown tremendously in last 12 years.0
Good value
We have played this course many times, mainly because of the value, but this last time we felt it wasn't in as good condition as in the past. The fairways, greens and tee boxes have always been in good condition, but the greens and tee boxes need attention. The sand bunkers are in poor condition. Some need additional sand, and they never seem to be raked. Overall, it's a decent course for the money.
Nice views of creek
Greens in great shape. T boxes could use work. Fairways need to be cut but were in good shape. Rough was a challenge!
Needs attention but fun to play
The course needs attention and it looked as if the cups haven't been moved in weeks. I like the course due to its challenging back 9 that gets much tighter than the front. You could get around the course from the tips and only pull out the driver once.
Course needs work
Course had terrible fairways and roughs. Did not have directions or pictures on how to get to the holes. Drive around a subdivision looking for #12.
excellent course for the money!
This course was well maintained and the pace of play was excellent. Great value!!
still a very challenging course
The course still demands an accurate drive and approach shot but the greens are very slow and need a lot of work. It was a pleasure playing there again.
Excellent value for the money!
The greens and fairways are in great shape. Well maintained!
Hot Deal price was worth it.
I've played Canewood several times over the past few years. Sad to say, the course conditions have somewhat deteriorated. Most fairways are decent, but there were also plenty of bare spots to contend with. The greens seem to need the most attention. There is no consistency in the grass, almost as if several types of grass have all integrated into one bumpy, grainy putting surface. The layout of the course makes it very challenging for first-time players yet very attackable for those that know the course. Quite a few holes have blind landing areas from the tee. The biggest annoyance was a lack of any yardage makers along the course. A simple blue/white/red stake in the fairway would make planning your shots so much easier. In summary, I'll definitely continue to play Canewood, but it wil have to be at the right price.
Ok course, lots of OB.
Played this course for $10 with cart off from golfnow. Can't beat that price. Average course
A course where you can leave the driver in the bag.
This course was in pretty good shape the day after be poured on by all day rains. It was the first time that I played the course. I can routinely hit my driver in the 310 to 320 range, and realized that this course would not require that kind of distance off the tee at all. I left my driver in the bag for all but two holes and probably would have been better served only to use it once. If you can hit a club in the 230-250 range off the tee, that is all that you will need. This course is pretty tight in spots and accuracy is more important than distance off the tee here. Some of the greens are small, so it does help to have a good short game because you will have to be able to hit some great chops and pitch shots. Even though I love the grip it and rip mentality, I actually liked playing a course that made you hit irons off the tee, or a hybrid in some cases. I would not take some o e who is a beginner here or someone who sprays the ball around, I just think it would be too penalizing of a course for them. I would go back there to enjoy a round.
Mow!
I stopped by this course earlier in the week; I talked with two guys in the parking lot and they raved about the course and conditions. I saw it as a hot deal and bought it. The greens were bumpy and not yet healed from the aerification. The fairways were mowed but that was it. It's one thing to see 6" rough OB but just off the fairway, no. Around the greens varied from 1"-5". I started out behind a foursome and they took forever to find balls just a yard or two off the fairway. I lost three myself that shouldn't have been lost. If I hadn't gotten such a bargain, I would've left.
Course in bad shape!
Course was in bad shape with half the fairways dead. Probably half of the tee boxes were also in bad shape. The office closed when we got off the front nine at 4:30 so we couldn't get a snack or anything. There was no water available on the course so bring your own drinks. Our battery powered cart died on us a couple holes before the finish. I would not go back fo rnay amount of money. I wouldn't play the course for free!
