StoneRidge Golf Course
About
Elevation changes are the name of the game here with swings from the tees that could make the most even-keeled soul feel Vertigo. The drop from tee to the fairways is as steep as 350 feet. The stretch of 12 through 15 is particularly height challenging. Designer Randy Heckenkemper likes to compare his course his course to a roller coaster. This for a high season $55 greens fee that wouldn't even be enough to get a ticket into some amusement parks.

Uphill and sidehill
Never played here before and I found it interesting and challenging. Too bad it took 5 hrs. to play. From the higher tees the wind if against can make some holes brutal. Some of the second shots on par 4's are steeply uphill. Found the greens to be medium fast and somewhat hard to read. Good variety of tees, so pick your poison. Nice facility and very cordial. Eighteenth hole is alittle funky but dramatic. Found the 5 wood to be my best friend on this unique and well designed track.
Stunning and Challenging
I'm from the Phoenix area and I've come up to Prescott valley the past 2 years to play Stoneridge. Each time it has been in immaculate condition and is a beautiful and humbling course. I'd strongly recommend playing this one.
great huge course. take plenty of extra balls!!!!!
great course , staff, condition of course....fantabulous!
Interesting layout
Interesting layout with elevation changes and forced carries. Well maintained and nice views
There are several tricky holes where you really need course knowledge.
It's hard to review this course based on the wind the day we played. At times you could barely stand. On the 600 yd. par 5 18th, I hit driver, 7 iron, sand wedge. My wind gauge said over 35 at times. We will play once more to be a better critic.
Overall best course I've played in AZ
A very well maintained course with beautiful surroundings. Rocky/desert terrain bordered most holes, so well placed tee shots are a must. Course layout knowledge would have certainly helped. Was worth the 2hr drive up to Prescott and will certainly return with others again.
Interesting course but players need a yardage sheet and hole map
See above-interesting course but players need a yardage book, detailed hole map. Course needs maintenance work in a number of areas.
Great if you like elevated tee boxes
I think Stoneridge is truly a hidden gem in Arizona. You won't find a course with this much character for this value anywhere else in the state. For me, it's always nice to get out of the hot summer heat in Phoenix and make the short drive to Prescott for a great round of golf.
Great Views
Better bring the camera along. You will need most of your clubs and club selection is crucial to avoid places one would have to be a magician to escape from. Not too much room for error but enough for average golfers. Selecting the right club can be problematic with the ups and downs you will face. Not advisable to play on a wet day, you may not be able to control the cart on the steep, windy paths. If you have a fear of heights, stay home. I think my ears popped on several holes driving from green to tee. If your cart breaks down, hitch a ride. i doubt you will be able to walk back to club house. Great Course... bring a lot of balls.
Tough course, bring extra balls
Views are awesome, holes are challenging. Played Monday and then again on Thursday. Rain and wind on first four holes Thursday, thought about going in. Sun came out, dried off two holes later. If you hit 235-250 or better, course plays much easier.
Great layout
This course was great! The staff were really helpful getting everything into place. If you get there before your round starts there are nice chipping and putting greens right next to tee #1, and they will call your name when it is your turn to play. Overall, this course was challenging for me because it actually requires you to make some shots. I really enjoyed the view. I also liked the fact that it is in a desert area, with little to no housing, so my wayward shots do no harm.
Great course, definitely want to play here again.
Like a video game
Spectacular views, this course has it all. Bring a few extra balls.
Hidden Gem
This course is worth the drive if you are in the Phoenix area. It is a beautiful course with an awesome view. The greens had been recently aerated so that was the only condition issue. You better be able to hit a straight drive with some distance here, or bring a lot of extra balls. There isn't a lot of room from error. You can't hit it over on the next fairway and still play it. I'm not a great golfer but I managed just fine. I can't wait to play it again, next time I'm in the area.
Excellent example of a desert course.
Course is extremely challenging. Forced carry on almost every hole. Bring extra balls.
Tough, interesting and fun.
This is a good challenge to both keep it straight and to judge distances correctly. Lots of elevation changes, use of terrain, and very distinct and different looking holes. No two shots the same.
Get a yardage book and play the right tees. One group lost 27 balls, the other only 3.
Would definitely play again.
Very interesting and challenging layout.
Great layout over, down, across canyons right and left, interesting doglegs, nice views, well maintained but we played two weeks after punching and sanding so the greens were still bumpy. Thus the cheaper rate. Would play it again in a heartbeat.
Not as I rememberd.
I had played this course a couple of years ago and remembered it to be in better condition. The front nine was in marginal shape. Taking into consideration the greens had all been topped dressed with sand after being aerated it still felt like the course was tired.
I nearly left at the turn but decided to play. Glad I did. The back nine was in better shape and all in all it was an enjoyable day.
Just not pristine like some of the other reviews stated.
Greens are a mess
Greens are rough but course is always worth playing. Bring your A game or you will get frustrated.
Tee box views
This course has the greatest tee box views in Az. After your tee shot almost every shot after that is up hill. Landing areas are wide enough for all types of handicaps. This course is not gimmicked up. Prescott, in general, is abot 6 weeks behind in getting out of the winter so the course presently is not in the best condition it should be, but so what, go there. It is not female-senior friendly. It's tough to motivate if it's a cart path only hole.
Challenging Course especially when the wind blows.
Very challenging course in the hills behind Prescott. Played on a windy day. Lots of uphill and downhill shots. Greens undulating and very tricky to read. Long distances from green to next tee. Must keep the ball in the fairway.
