StoneRidge Golf Course
About
Elevation changes are the name of the game here with swings from the tees that could make the most even-keeled soul feel Vertigo. The drop from tee to the fairways is as steep as 350 feet. The stretch of 12 through 15 is particularly height challenging. Designer Randy Heckenkemper likes to compare his course his course to a roller coaster. This for a high season $55 greens fee that wouldn't even be enough to get a ticket into some amusement parks.

Spectacular views, this course has it all. Bring a few extra balls.
Hidden Gem
This course is worth the drive if you are in the Phoenix area. It is a beautiful course with an awesome view. The greens had been recently aerated so that was the only condition issue. You better be able to hit a straight drive with some distance here, or bring a lot of extra balls. There isn't a lot of room from error. You can't hit it over on the next fairway and still play it. I'm not a great golfer but I managed just fine. I can't wait to play it again, next time I'm in the area.
Excellent example of a desert course.
Course is extremely challenging. Forced carry on almost every hole. Bring extra balls.
Tough, interesting and fun.
This is a good challenge to both keep it straight and to judge distances correctly. Lots of elevation changes, use of terrain, and very distinct and different looking holes. No two shots the same.
Get a yardage book and play the right tees. One group lost 27 balls, the other only 3.
Would definitely play again.
Very interesting and challenging layout.
Great layout over, down, across canyons right and left, interesting doglegs, nice views, well maintained but we played two weeks after punching and sanding so the greens were still bumpy. Thus the cheaper rate. Would play it again in a heartbeat.
Not as I rememberd.
I had played this course a couple of years ago and remembered it to be in better condition. The front nine was in marginal shape. Taking into consideration the greens had all been topped dressed with sand after being aerated it still felt like the course was tired.
I nearly left at the turn but decided to play. Glad I did. The back nine was in better shape and all in all it was an enjoyable day.
Just not pristine like some of the other reviews stated.
Greens are a mess
Greens are rough but course is always worth playing. Bring your A game or you will get frustrated.
Tee box views
This course has the greatest tee box views in Az. After your tee shot almost every shot after that is up hill. Landing areas are wide enough for all types of handicaps. This course is not gimmicked up. Prescott, in general, is abot 6 weeks behind in getting out of the winter so the course presently is not in the best condition it should be, but so what, go there. It is not female-senior friendly. It's tough to motivate if it's a cart path only hole.
Challenging Course especially when the wind blows.
Very challenging course in the hills behind Prescott. Played on a windy day. Lots of uphill and downhill shots. Greens undulating and very tricky to read. Long distances from green to next tee. Must keep the ball in the fairway.
Poor Man's Big Horn
This was a very surprising find in Prescott Valley. You will drive through fairly flat lands and trailer parks until you turn into the Stone Ridge development. The terrain immediately changes to extreme hills. This continues onto the golf course. There are several holes that have elevation changes of 50 ft or more, sometimes twice (50 ft drop from tee to fairway and back up 50 ft to the green). Don't worry, you won't be walking - carts are mandatory. Speaking of carts, some of the hills are so steep, there are speed bumps on the cart paths to ensure you are going slow enough for safety. It is worth the trip out to Prescott Valley, especially if you can't afford playing Big Horn in California.
nice scenery, a little too difficult for ladies
nice scenery, however golf was too difficult for ladies, also the friends that wre with us found it frustrating with not knowing the yardage. gps on carts would have helped a lot
Numerous elevation changes make for a challenging round.
Very friendly staff on the course and in the clubhouse. Members made me feel comfortable when they noticed an unfamiliar face. Course was in great shape and the fair but challenging fairways were fun to negotiate. The fluctuation of elevation and distances between holes was certainly the reason for cart only play. A very memorable round and I would certainly play the course again if I was to return to the area.
The girls at the 19th hole were very personable which made for a great ending to an unforgettable day of golf.
Take the drive
Just a great golf course. Spring conditions, but still plenty of grass in the fairways. The greens were fast, but rolled true.
The scenery here is great too. Take the time and drive up and play; You won't regret it!
This course has great features.
This is a must play course. Very impress with the concrete pathway. Hilly and beautiful
Excellent condition and friendly staff.
Great course, staff and value.
This was a very, very nice venue. Scenic, changing elevationwell maintained course. Challenging but fair. Would love to play it when it's 20 degrees warmer.
Fast greens and good fairways
I love this course, it is challenging and very easy to lose a ball. None of the holes are adjacent so a missed fairway might result in a drop. The greens are fast and fairly true with lots of unjulations. Great course for the price.
Very challenging!
The course is very well laid out to take advantage of the landscape. Not many markers ... Course guide would have helped. We golfed with locals and they were extremely helpful. VERY well named!
our favorite northern arizona place to play.
stoneridge has become our first choice to play anytime we can.
High Desert, High Challenge
This course is the most ultimate challenge in what I would consider "high desert" golf.
I'm from Kansas and our courses are NOTHING like this!
It is an amazing layout that changes elevation more than Lady GaGa changes outfits; but I LOVE IT.
After playing for the past 5 months here in the Phoenix area, this is my 1st choice even if it is an hour-and-a-half away...It's worth the drive (especially at GolfNow prices!).
This course is not for golf wimps; Man up and let it rip.
Stunning Views even in winter
Drove up from Phoenix to play Stoneridge Feb 2nd. Weather was cool and spotty melting snow around the course. Course in great shape; fortunately there wasn't much wind though it was a little cool (62 degrees). The staff was superb; business was a little on the slow side we were able to tee off earlier then our reserved tee time. Thanks for the great hospitality!
