About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

Golfer Reviews
Somewhat Disappointed...
My son-in-law got a really good deal on a foursome, so it cost us $48/player (vs. the Saturday rack rate of $85). I was a little concerned about course conditions, but we decided to try it anyway. Here's the good news...they are letting you run on most of the fairways--only 3 are roped off (of course, other than the par 3's). The fairways are mostly green. And, the bunkers had nice sand in them. The bad news...the fairways were extremely wet and soggy, which made easy pitch shots into duffs. The greens were a little long and slower than normal, and had a huge number of unrepaired ball marks. The fairway, also, had unfilled divots. This is not the course's fault, but rather inconsiderate golfers who are too lazy to fix the damage they have done!! Unfortunately, there was a lot of unmowed grass on hills, around bunkers, and on mounding. This could have been mowed--it just made the course ugly and slowed down play because of players trying to play out of it. Additionally, there were a lot of aprons and around the greens that was burned out and had loss the grass. This course is no where near an $85 course and I'm glad we had a deal. I will say, though, that the staff at Lake Presidential is always welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. Having said that, this course needs a lot of work to bring it back to being in pristine shape and worth the $85. It will be a little while before I try it again.
Great layout, bad conditions
Our hot summer has certainly taken its toll on Lake Presidential. You can see from the start that the course layout is something special. The elevation changes and green-side undulation is really neat.
That said, the course was truly in bad shape. Every single hole had significant burnout areas, in fairways, rough, and on and around the greens. The greens were also extremely slow (assuming they are keeping them long to fight the burnout already taking place). You can see that they are fighting an uphill battle given the lack of wind circulation on many of the holes (there are large fans present on many greensides).
It's a shame, because this course has a fantastic and challenging layout. My guess is when Sept/Oct roll around the conditions will improve, but I think there must be something else missing in the turf management to account for the current state of things.
Price somewhat made up for conditions, though I'd gladly pay 25-30 more to play somewhere else. I hope they turn it around.
Soggy Conditions
Played Lake Presidential on Sunday 8/4. The course is nicely laid out with well cared for greens. Unfortunately they seem to be over watering in the mornings turning the fairways into ponds. These conditions are not enjoyable. With a better irrigation plan this course could be one of the better public courses in the area. Until then, wear your waders.
Slow Greens
Greens were running maybe a 5 or 6. If you are a lower handicap this will be extremely frustrating for you. The course was in good shape but the greens and pace of play didn’t make it worth the money.
Very fun layout
My only complaint is the greens were pretty slow. The course overall was awesome. Probably my favorite layout of any course I’ve played in Maryland or Virginia. Highly recommend.
Sorry I got a discount
The staff was absolutely horrible!!!! Well the bartender was very nice.
As soon as we checked in and the 2 guys in the pro shop saw we booked with Golfnow, we immediately record the cold shoulder. The starter was impossible to find and very disinterested in being there. But something good must have been on his phone because he never looked up. The course was empty we had at 3:36 tee time and got there early and when I asked if we could get out early he said nope we are booked up, then we waited as 1 three some went out during the hour we waited.
Not worth full price for sure and I will never go back.
I do have to say the course looked beautiful but was super wet and the greens were in terrible shape.
Is Lake Presidential the Best Course in MD
I have played plenty of nice courses in MD and this one is a stand out,
While i have not yet had the chance to play some of the other top 10 courses like Bulle Rock, Musket Ridge, Whiskey Creek and so on,
I have played enough to know this is a special place to be,
When it compares quality to other $80+ courses i have played in MD it is spot on with Lush Greens that roll true and fairways that are like hitting off of clouds and the rough is perfectly thick (i would hate to play out of it if they cut it long)
The course also has an awesome practice facility frame a real grass driving range not mats at all or the pitching green with a bunker to practice out of,
The club house is one of the nicest i have been to for a public course,
But none of that is what makes this course my favorite in all of MD at this time,
The true beauty of this course is in the layout,
Its hard to even know where to start with this,
Every hole in my opinion is a work of art and unique,
There are carries over water holes,
Tee boxes up high that have carries of gaps in the land,
Water that runs down the side of the full holes,
or a Land gapped island fairway,
i can go on and on about this course,
you will most likely use every club in your bag because of all the different types of shots you will need to use,
Here are two of the understated holes on this course,
These you should forget but because of the other amazing holes you just wont remember but are great non the less
Nice course layout
I was pleasantly surprised with the overall course layout and conditions of the course. With the weather being so nice on a saturday morning , I guess we were bound to have some delays. Considering the hot deal prices, it was well worth the money. Would definitely recommend.
Improving
Improved conditions v. last year. Be prepared to do long walks from cart paths. And beware no. 18....a real end of round “widowmaker”. with the steep inclines from distant cart path.
Great Course
lake Presidential is a very good golf course. Last year was the first year the course was good again after many years of being in horrible condition. It looks like it continues to get back to where it used to be. I would think that in June/July it should be in outstanding shape. The greens were great today. Too bad there are so many houses going up around the course. It really distracts from the course. I guess that's where the money is.
Awesome track with amazing conditions for March golf in the DMV area. Don’t know why I’ve waited so long to play it! Will definitely be headed back a few times this year, worth the price tag.
Great Track / Great day!
Played the course and even though it was a bit wet from snow earlier in the week the course looks much much better than the last time we played it earlier last year. Only minor issue was having to chage carts at the turn but we were told it was due to being stored. Pace was under 4 hrs on a great warm day! looking forward to play the track again. Also bar service for lunch and drinks was faboulus. The young lady behind the bar was great!!!
Excellent Golf Day
Course is in good shape! Tee boxes and sand traps need more work! Awesome it was NOT cartpath only after heavy rain night before round !
First time playing Lake Presidential and I honestly left feeling a little confused about how much I enjoyed the round.
On one hand, the greens were extremely slow, bumpy, sandy ect. They had obviously been punched in the recent weeks which was fine. The problem was how inconsistent they were cut. Very tall and shaggy in some spots and thin and firm in others. The cups were very poorly cut for such a premium course. Made for a very frustrating round rolling putts.
The fairways were excellent shape, zero complaints there other than hoping people would do a better job repairing divots.
The other real issue outside of the greens was that the course was cart path only "due to the heat". It's obviously the courses discretion, and credit them for keeping the fairways in good shape but this made the round extremely unpleasant as most of the cart paths are elevated a good bit off of the fairways. On a hot day, treking up and down steep hills before and after every shot took alot of enjoyment out of playing the course.
The layout is fantastic. Very fair, but challenging. Course knowledge would be of great help.
I'd like to go back in the fall and play the course in its prime condition, which is what it looks like the grounds crew is already prepping for. My fear is, once it is in good condition it'll be priced well north of comparable courses in the MD/NOVA area. I'd try it again, but would have to make sure it wasn't cart path only before my arrival.
Nice course - would play again
I played on a Wednesday afternoon and finished in 4 hours and change. The course was in pretty good condition but a few tee boxes were beat up. The layout is challenging and the greens are tough. Will definitely play again.
Great experience as a first timer
Course was an excellent shape, staff was friendly, but pace of play was a tad long finishing in 4.5 hours. I will definitely be back!
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate the note on service as we are very focused on the total guest experience. Our actual Pace of Play clocks are set for 4:45. With the difficulty of the course, hilly terrain, and cart path only holes, it is very difficult to play faster than this. I'm glad you were able to play in 4.5 hours. That's a solid 15 minutes ahead of pace. Great job to you!
Vast improvement in conditions of course since I last played, but it was extremely wet and soggy (this was before the recent rains.) As a result, large divots littered the fairways which were not replaced. Also, lots of unrepaired ball marks on the greens. Getting better but need to encourage golfers to take better care of the course.
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, you would have experienced some "soggy" areas as we had been hand watering for the last three weeks during the drought. It is required to keep the grass healthy. You wll notice we rarely ran sprinklers and only watered areas where the ground is still significantly compacted. Yes, sometimes that water runs off and creates areas that are more wet than we need. It is amazing to your point how many golfers do not respect any facility and don't repair their divots and ball marks. Even high-end private clubs have the same issue. Frustrating for sure for all of us.
Thank you for coming out to play. We appreciate that very much. You are correct, seven of our tee grounds are being changed from Bermuda grass to Bent. That will commence once Aeration of the greens is completed. That process begins on Monday the 20th. We look forward to having you out again.
