GOOD, BAD, & UGLY
Here is the review I posted on Golf Pass/Golf Now:
Let's start with the positive. This is the first time I have played this course this year, and the teeboxes and fairways are in the best shape I have seen them. It also looks like the maintenance crew has tried to keep the greens in good shape.
Now the challenges, starting with the pro shop experience. The gentleman at the counter seemed angry to be there, and even angrier that anyone would dare try to check in for a round. This continued at the turn where the pro shop was the only option for beverages on a very hot day. To that end, for a course where I am paying $100 for a round, on a day when it hit 100°, there was no water on the course and no cart service.
Next, there is clearly no pride in maintaining the grounds, by the player community. Look up a ball mark repair tool, because it is clear that the average Oak Creek golfer has never seen one. The greens are pock marked, and my threesome spent time on each green repairing other people's ball marks. I could also add a picture of a rake, because it is equally clear that no one bothers to rake traps. But, to be fair, the traps were generally in terrible shape with no real sand in them.
Finally, when we had finished our round, at about 12:30, the pro shop was closed, so no food, no beverage, and no bathroom. I get that it was a very hot day and surly pro shop giy did not want to be at work, but you still had golfers on the course how had paid $100 a piece for service that they deserved but did not get.
Oak Creek, you have a gem of a course. Staff, just be nice. Golf community, just be responsible and take pride in the course. Management, if you are going to charge $100 for a round of golf, provide the service that justifies the price.
Nice track and challenging
The course is still in nice condition considering its June. Could have a little more grass in the Fairway but I understand because of the traffic on the course this time of year.
Great Drainage After Previous Days' Rain
Designated cart path only after two days of rain, the course still played well. Good drainage meant very few standing ponds of water in the fairways. However, the sand bunkers did not fare as well. The tee boxes were acceptable but need some attention as golfers haven't shown them any kindness (bare spots and broken tees). The greens were in really good shape and pin placement was a challenge on certain holes. The staff is friendly and helpful-kudos to the Pro Shop and beverage cart.
Condition of course, Oh My!
For this late in June the course should in far better condition from tee to green. Of course an Oak Creek tradition continues as many golfers feel privileged in that they don't have to fix their ballmarks. Although it rained the night before every single trap was essentially non playable from standing water to complete washout. Didn't make it to the range but it appeared the worn-out mats still haven't been replaced
Conditions are sliding
While this course still has some of the best fairways around, the greens are deteriorating and the sand traps are in awful condition. Unfixed Ball marks are ruining what were incredibly good greens.
So close
This course is stunningly, beautiful. The only disappointment was the number of ball marks on the greens. Of course, this is not the fault of the course but rather players who don’t fix their ball marks. It made pudding difficult. Other than this inconvenience, this is an outstanding golf course.
Maintenance
Course seemed very dry with numerous bare spots. Typically it is in much better condition.
Decent Public course
Decent place. I was hoping for nicer fairways since it is in a exclusive community but all in all it was fun and the $$$ value for a weekday afternoon was great!
Course is coming back in nicely
Greens are looking a better, need to encourage folks to fix ball marks. Overall the course plays extremely well to be late spring/early summer.
Nice Place
Fancy, well organized, respectful, good beer. The drink-cart gal was absolutely lovely and made a great orange crush. I think I sank like a 30 yard putt from the fairway somewhere on the back 9. We got paired with 2 other dudes who where a lot of fun. side note: Mango Cart might be the best golf beer ever.
Nice public course. Slow play.
Course was generally in good shape. Greens were very bumpy, hard to get a true roll. The group ahead was very slow and it being late afternoon no marshaling on the course. 2.5 hour for first 9 holes. We passed on the back and decided to go to dinner.
