About
The course at Soldiers Creek Golf Club was designed by Scott Clark, a former Golf Course Superintendent at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama and the current Superintendent at The Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores Alabama. While this is Scott's first attempt in playing the role of a course architect, it also reveals his depth of experience in the golf course industry. The design goals of building a course that would be enjoyable for high handicappers as well as low handicappers was met in this design.
The course features wide player-friendly fairways. Also, water comes into play on only two holes which makes navigating this course easier for high handicappers. A large natural turf driving range and 10,000 square foot practice green is available as a warm-up or practice area.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club is owned by the Norman Woerner family. Norman is a member of the Woerner Turf family of sod producers. Woerner Turf is a world-wide leader in turf production. The company provides turf for many golf courses ranging from Augusta National to new courses in Hong Kong. They also supply the turf for the NFL Super Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Southern Turf Nurseries provided the Tif Eagle for Soldiers Creek Golf Club. This turf grass is considered by many to be the best-of-the-best turf for southern golf course greens. The fairways and roughs are Tif 419, a dense-growing emerald-colored grass that's perfect for plush fairways.The greens feature Tif Eagle, the newest and best-of-the-best southern turf grass for golf course greens. An increasingly popular choice for new golf courses and redesigns, this turf permits a closer cut, thus allowing for smoother, faster greens.
Located only several miles from Alabama's sun-kissed Gulf Coast, this new 18 hole championship course is part of the Woerner Preserve Resort. DIRECTIONS: From I-10, take exit 44 (Gulf Shores Pkwy/Hwy 59 South). Travel south on Hwy 59 for approx. 18 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 98 (at light in Foley). Travel approx. 10 miles to Co. Rd 95. Turn right and go 1 ½ mile. Course is on the left.

Soldier Creek
Course in rough condition because of all the rain. I would guess course would play much nicer November to February / March timeframe.
Have enjoyed this course many times over the years, staff is always professional and accommodating. Fairways are in excellent shape. Enjoyable and challenging course. Greens are very well maintained and in beautiful condition. As always was a great day to be there. Would recommend everyone to play there.
Beautiful and fun to play!
This is a beautiful, fun to play course! It is susceptible to flooding though, so call ahead before you book to make sure the course is open. The pro shop does not have much to offer, so stop somewhere else for the essentials prior to heading over.
A disappointment
Course was inundated with standing water from recent torrential rains. They probably should not have opened.Also disappointing, and surprising, given that they are supposedly turf-management experts, several fairways had been scalped, such that the grass was burning up.
Perhaps most importantly though, they failed to provide adequate fresh, cold drinking water on the course. Given the heat, and the age of some of the players, this is a potentially dangerous omission. There was stale, warm water available on the front nine, but both Igloos on the back nine were empty.
Timing is everything
Great course that I have played before, except don’t play after rain in the past two days. The course does not drain well. At least 9 of 18 fairways were swamps. Bunkers were holding water.
User friendly
Secluded. Seems like the course doesnt get all that much play, which is nice if you trying to get in a quick 3.5- 4 hour round. Price is a lot cheaper than other gulf shore area courses.
Course is fairly wide open and user friendly. Tight on some holes, but forgiving on others.

Great value. I would have given the course a4 if it hadn’t been so wet. Course doesn’t drain well.

This course is worth every penny! Nice staff, fairly priced concessions, and awesome layout. Will being playing again before leaving vacation!
Soldiers Creek
Great layout. Fairways need a lot of work. Bunkers are hit and miss. Lacking sand and in need of a tiling as they are extremely hard in spots.
Ball rolls true but greens are slow. Mowers where cutting grass so large clumps of cut grass often needed to be moved so a shot could be made.
$6.25 for a medium bucket of balls seemed a bit pricey. Especially since they were a combination of range balls and what seemed were balls found out on the course.
Out of the way Gem
Staying in Perdido Key, I usually just play at Perdido Bay, however, after today I will include The Preserve (Soldiers Creek) in my play list. Even with tropical storm Claudette dumping 12"-14" inches of rain over the previous 5-7 days the course was in somewhat wet, but playable condition. I certainly enjoyed my time there and regret that I waited until the end of our vacation to give it a try. My current inability to hit the driver had me teeing off with long irons, but from the senior tees... Not a problem, in fact I played one of my best rounds ever. Greens held good approach shots and putted consistently throughout the round. Definitely recommend.
Soldier Creek Orange Beach Option
Not a great place for the cost. Grant my, extremely wet after substantial rains. But the course could have been in better condition for the price. Not crazy about the layout, and the greens considering the rains they’ve had could have been much better. There wasn’t even a starter to point you to the course.
Best kept secret in the area.
Very quiet, no houses, no highway nose. Greens and fairways excellent. Staff very accomidating and personal.
We were extremely pleased with everything about the course. Will be playing again soon. I highly recommend playing it.
Birthday golf day
My brother and I took our dad today for his birthday. We had a wonderful day. Course was great. Highly recommend, and we will definitely be back.
