Soldiers Creek Golf Club
About
The course at Soldiers Creek Golf Club was designed by Scott Clark, a former Golf Course Superintendent at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama and the current Superintendent at The Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores Alabama. While this is Scott's first attempt in playing the role of a course architect, it also reveals his depth of experience in the golf course industry. The design goals of building a course that would be enjoyable for high handicappers as well as low handicappers was met in this design.
The course features wide player-friendly fairways. Also, water comes into play on only two holes which makes navigating this course easier for high handicappers. A large natural turf driving range and 10,000 square foot practice green is available as a warm-up or practice area.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club is owned by the Norman Woerner family. Norman is a member of the Woerner Turf family of sod producers. Woerner Turf is a world-wide leader in turf production. The company provides turf for many golf courses ranging from Augusta National to new courses in Hong Kong. They also supply the turf for the NFL Super Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Southern Turf Nurseries provided the Tif Eagle for Soldiers Creek Golf Club. This turf grass is considered by many to be the best-of-the-best turf for southern golf course greens. The fairways and roughs are Tif 419, a dense-growing emerald-colored grass that's perfect for plush fairways. The greens feature Tif Eagle, the newest and best-of-the-best southern turf grass for golf course greens. An increasingly popular choice for new golf courses and redesigns, this turf permits a closer cut, thus allowing for smoother, faster greens.
Located only several miles from Alabama's sun-kissed Gulf Coast, this new 18 hole championship course is part of the Woerner Preserve Resort. Our friendly staff welcomes you to play the newest course on the Gulf Coast. Yes, we are now open. Come spend some time with family or friends. Relax and enjoy a round of golf in this natural setting.
DIRECTIONS: From I-10, take exit 44 (Gulf Shores Pkwy/Hwy 59 South). Travel south on Hwy 59 for approx. 18 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 98 (at light in Foley). Travel approx. 10 miles to Co. Rd 95. Turn right and go 1 ½ mile. Course is on the left.

Great Course: Worth the Drive!
If you are looking for a challenging course then this is the one for you. Challenging but forgiving. There are no houses so that's great for me. I'm from Baldwin County originally and live in Pittsburgh now. When visiting home I only play Soldiers Creek due to it pace of play, length and overall quality of the course. Also, the best greens in Baldwin County, hands down!. Bottom line, make the drive to Elberta and take advantage of the best golf you are going to play while vacationing at the Gulf and get the best bang for your buck.
Great staff, great course.
I recently moved to Baldwin County. I found this gem tucked away in Elberta,Al. The staff there is unbelievably friendly and the course is in really good shape considering all of the rain this region has endured over the last few months. The greens rolled really great today and the fairways are lush. You will not find a better value in baldwin county for the money. Great job guys and gals!
Soldier's Creek is a good value, but it really depends on your expectations. It has a great layout, and the course is typically in good condition, with the exception of the bunkers, they just don't seem to manicure the bunkers for some reason. If they would keep the bunkers in good shape it would add a star to my rating. The price is great compared to the other courses in the Gulf Shores area, but these courses are typically in a little better condition (bunkers). We typically take a free drop out of the bunkers because they are not kept up.
Rarely have we had a slow pace of play, not a lot of traffic, which is a good selling point for me. It's a good place to take new golfers without the pressure of having pressure from other golfers.
If you expect this course to be in perfect condition, you should go somewhere else, if you want to play a good course that can challenge you, and not be pressured with lots of other golfers this is a great place.
Don't expect beverage carts or marshalls on this course, they do have beverage cart on the weekends but not during the week.
The staff is very nice and helpful
Like every course, they have times when the greens are affected by weather or disease, but more often than not the greens are in good condition.
We like playing this course because we play often and fast, and this course is affordable and allows for fast play.
Very nice course, in great shape a must play for the average or avid golfer. . The staff takes care of their customers , super friendly . I will play this course again.
The course has a good layout. Some holes have a good fairway, others may be sparse. The greens are fine, not the best in the area. They have some bad spots around the edges but nothing that should affect play.
Overall soldiers creek is probably as good as a rural country club in the south. I would put the price at $25 a round all day/every day. Just hard to compete with some of the others local courses.
improved soldiers creek
COURSE WASS MUCH IMPROVED WITH PLENTY OF EXCELLENT GREENS AND FAIRWAYS HAVE NOW FILLED IN WITH ALL WATER SYSTEMS A GO
Pleased
I love the layout and always find the course to be a great test of golf. The greens were excellent and I found the putts to be true. Tee boxes are rough in spots but coming back. The fairway grass has rebounded with 5th he spring warmth and should be in great shape soon. I loved the course. A great experience without having to contend with houses. The staff has always been friendly to me and I will go back soon. I recommend this course .
I don't reccomend it.
Greens are OK. Fairways and tee boxes are bad.
The horrible customer service is the real drawback.
I won't ever go to this course again.
Great Course
Had a great time. Course was in real good shape. Well worth the money.
Course Conditions
Course was in terrible shape, it certainly is more like a 1 star at best not the 4 star you have it rated at.
Nice track
Fairways were a little sparce in areas, but the greens were true. Nice layout, very playable, good tee options.
Not good
Tee boxes and fairways were in terrible shape. Green were decent at best. Course has a good layout just needs a lot of work
Nice lay out, Course is starting to green up!
I would Recommend this course to others but note that you will need to bring your own drinks and any snacks you may want. I did not see anyone selling anything to drink at all. This is a great layout, and overall starting to look good. The staff is not that friendly but then again I was just here to play Golf not a meet and greet. Range balls (Even with paying for a round of golf) is 6.00 for a small bucket. I was very disappointed in that. The Golf carts are in great shape, and very clean. The pace was fast since my ground and one more was the only one here. The parking lot is clean, and grounds are clean. Only issue or complaint is paying for range balls even after paying for a round of golf. I will be back and I will play here again, but this is my 3rd choice of places to play. I would play here when others are booked or I just want to get a round in without a long wait.
Great staff and nice lay out
I've played this course dozens of times the last two winters. Seems to be getting in better shape. Greens are nice. Staff very friendly and accomidating.
so-so
Good greens. Poor fairways and tees.
Rather boring course. All holes about the same. No water challenge. No tough doglegs.
DO NOT GOLF HERE
Very average golf course and rude service. Spend the extra 5 dollars and go somwhere better, you will not regret it.
We booked the course through Golfnow. We used to play this course and it was always in great shape. We were really disappointed with the course today fairways were terrible and the tee boxes were also bad greens were just okay. We will not play this course again for a while especially for the money they charge
Fertilizer
The course had a very strong smell of "fertilizer. " The smell was overwhelmingly strong. We did not finish the round. The tee box had "fertilizer " so thick it clumped under my shoes. I did not want to ground my driver, which is part of the routine, before I swing. I feel like we should have been tipped off on the condition of the course. (Fertilizer = Manure)
