Soldiers Creek Golf Club
About
The course at Soldiers Creek Golf Club was designed by Scott Clark, a former Golf Course Superintendent at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama and the current Superintendent at The Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores Alabama. While this is Scott's first attempt in playing the role of a course architect, it also reveals his depth of experience in the golf course industry. The design goals of building a course that would be enjoyable for high handicappers as well as low handicappers was met in this design.
The course features wide player-friendly fairways. Also, water comes into play on only two holes which makes navigating this course easier for high handicappers. A large natural turf driving range and 10,000 square foot practice green is available as a warm-up or practice area.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club is owned by the Norman Woerner family. Norman is a member of the Woerner Turf family of sod producers. Woerner Turf is a world-wide leader in turf production. The company provides turf for many golf courses ranging from Augusta National to new courses in Hong Kong. They also supply the turf for the NFL Super Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Southern Turf Nurseries provided the Tif Eagle for Soldiers Creek Golf Club. This turf grass is considered by many to be the best-of-the-best turf for southern golf course greens. The fairways and roughs are Tif 419, a dense-growing emerald-colored grass that's perfect for plush fairways. The greens feature Tif Eagle, the newest and best-of-the-best southern turf grass for golf course greens. An increasingly popular choice for new golf courses and redesigns, this turf permits a closer cut, thus allowing for smoother, faster greens.
Located only several miles from Alabama's sun-kissed Gulf Coast, this new 18 hole championship course is part of the Woerner Preserve Resort. Our friendly staff welcomes you to play the newest course on the Gulf Coast. Yes, we are now open. Come spend some time with family or friends. Relax and enjoy a round of golf in this natural setting.
DIRECTIONS: From I-10, take exit 44 (Gulf Shores Pkwy/Hwy 59 South). Travel south on Hwy 59 for approx. 18 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 98 (at light in Foley). Travel approx. 10 miles to Co. Rd 95. Turn right and go 1 ½ mile. Course is on the left.

Very poor condition
The front nine had no grass, was muddy, and in very poor condition. some of this may be that the bermuda grass was dormant. The back nine was better and the local players seemed to be playing only the back nine, but we paid for 18 through GolfNow and were stuck.
This course was in fair condition for time of year. Would not play again at this time, plenty of improvements needed: greens, tee boxes, fairways. This used to be an excellent course.
Cow Pasture
Fairways were awfull! Most greens were OK. Needs major improvement.....
Not worth the money
XThe course layout is good but the fairways have no grass and the greens were just ok! Definitely not worth the money! The starter was great as he had things moving and friendly.
suprize
Great layout, lots of grass in fairways. Greens rolled better than prestige clubs. Very nice people in clubhouse. Excellent value.
very poor condition
cost way more than the course is worth, the greens are in bad shape as is the fairways. not worth the money.
Needs work
Due to heavy rains recently the course was not in great shape. But other courses in this area experienced the same rains, but are in better conditions. Fairways grass was brown with sparse areas. Greens weren't in the best shape. its a challenging course and fun to play. Just needs some work to get back in shape
First Visit
We enjoyed the remote setting and quiet atmosphere!
Play was wide open and still offered some challenging approaches
Because it was winter the fairways are not watered so the grass was brown and short.. it make the roll to our advantage.
We are planning another around soon.
Beautiful course and friendly staff
Just played here over the weekend at this beautiful course. It has a great layout and a friendly staff. Very forgiving course.
first 5 greens were in very bad shape
After the 5th hole the greens got better and the course could be great but needs work
Peaceful course with great views. Great layout.
I really enjoy playing this course. Could be in better shape all around. Worth the rate you find on golf now. I would not pay full rack rate.
Great Course to Play
We have played this course ever winter for the past 9 years and just love it . Staff are great course is usually very playable love the fast greens.. Compared to fancier courses this is best value for your money. but if you like those snow white bunkers, well manicured fairways, greens, tee boxes, and fancy clubhouse then by all means play the $80-$125 courses .. they have treated us well over the years back there again this coming winter..
owner
I had to pay for a handicapped to ride in my cart, plus another $20.00 to play earlier. even though nobody was signed up for the next 3 hours. He said golf now was taking his customers
Great course
Terrific condition fast play friendly staff
Great course, great deal
Overall this is a fine course. Fairly wide fairways and both fairways and greens were in great shape. Definitely a must play in the Orange Beach/Foley Alabama area and the prices are great on GolfNow. We enjoyed it so much we played it again the next day.
Great course
Played afternoon round, the course was in great shape. The management was very helpful. Although Golf Now had paired us with another twosome, they allowed us to play as a twosome, my wife only plays a few times a year and is very uncomfortable playing with anyone else. We had a great time and would recommend the course to anyone. 4 sets of tees to accommodate anyones ability (7000 yards all the way back). Great course for the money!!
2nd class citizen
The woman who greeted me was friendly enough, however, she was not happy I was playing discount golf at her course. She let me know we couldn't start early even though they were not busy. She said, "When you use that Golf Now, you have a specific time to adhere to".I felt as though that was going to be my penance for accepting the offer they allowed! This is not the first time I have encountered this type of reaction at a Pro Shop. If these courses don't like the system, they shouldn't make the offer.
Awful
Worst golf course I have ever played. One star is not low enough. Greens are covered with some kind of weed. The fairways are spotty and haven't been mowed recently. We had 2 thresomes and got stuck behind a sixsome. Yes, I said SIX! We complained at turn and got a shoulder shrug. We had previously played Lost Key and Glen Lakes. Much better courses for the same money. This place is a total waste of time and money.
worth the drive
I'm 73 an now hit the ball short and was glad to see the course very playable for me from the forward tees.Greens. we're in very good shape especially since little rain has fallen in weeks. Drive from Orange Beach took about 25 minutes.
Course in poor shape right now
Have played here 2 or 3 times before and have enjoyed the course, no roads or houses and each hole is individual and picturesque. After playing 2 holes we were all disappointed in the conditions and decided to play preferred lies the rest of the round. The rough was so thick that made it difficult to find the ball, the fairway grass was long and full of weeds and crab grass and the greens were inconsistent and full of crab grass. Unfortunately not worth the money we paid this time. They need to spend some money on weed control and get the course back onto the condition is deserves to be in.
I've had the same reaction at other courses and most of the time has happened here in florida. Having an attitude with customers spending their money at your business will not have me return .... there are plenty of other courses that are grateful for my or anyone else's patronage...!!
