Soldiers Creek Golf Club
About
The course at Soldiers Creek Golf Club was designed by Scott Clark, a former Golf Course Superintendent at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear Alabama and the current Superintendent at The Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores Alabama. While this is Scott's first attempt in playing the role of a course architect, it also reveals his depth of experience in the golf course industry. The design goals of building a course that would be enjoyable for high handicappers as well as low handicappers was met in this design.
The course features wide player-friendly fairways. Also, water comes into play on only two holes which makes navigating this course easier for high handicappers. A large natural turf driving range and 10,000 square foot practice green is available as a warm-up or practice area.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club is owned by the Norman Woerner family. Norman is a member of the Woerner Turf family of sod producers. Woerner Turf is a world-wide leader in turf production. The company provides turf for many golf courses ranging from Augusta National to new courses in Hong Kong. They also supply the turf for the NFL Super Bowl and the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Southern Turf Nurseries provided the Tif Eagle for Soldiers Creek Golf Club. This turf grass is considered by many to be the best-of-the-best turf for southern golf course greens. The fairways and roughs are Tif 419, a dense-growing emerald-colored grass that's perfect for plush fairways. The greens feature Tif Eagle, the newest and best-of-the-best southern turf grass for golf course greens. An increasingly popular choice for new golf courses and redesigns, this turf permits a closer cut, thus allowing for smoother, faster greens.
Located only several miles from Alabama's sun-kissed Gulf Coast, this new 18 hole championship course is part of the Woerner Preserve Resort. Our friendly staff welcomes you to play the newest course on the Gulf Coast. Yes, we are now open. Come spend some time with family or friends. Relax and enjoy a round of golf in this natural setting.
DIRECTIONS: From I-10, take exit 44 (Gulf Shores Pkwy/Hwy 59 South). Travel south on Hwy 59 for approx. 18 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 98 (at light in Foley). Travel approx. 10 miles to Co. Rd 95. Turn right and go 1 ½ mile. Course is on the left.

NICE COURSE TO PLAY
Course is nice to play greens are in great condition except for a couple that need some tlc. I like the country setting no houses around just nature!!!!!! Plenty water coolers on the course you will need in South AL VERY HOT!!!!!!!!
Great layout, But needs serious attention!!
I had read some reviews that the greens on the front side may be in bad shape. However, I couldn't turn down a $23 Hot deal. Now I wish I would have looked somewhere else. The upside is that the course is a nice layout. I like the setup, and Soldiers Creek has some neat dogleg holes, and the bunkers are placed in fair locations. The fairways were easy to play from, and the rough was a little more difficult, but it was very fair. Then there are the greens. I was told to start on the back 9, which is OK. I hit the practice greens right before my round, and I had to really swing my putter to get a ball to the hole. I thought the greens on the course would be different. THEY WERE NOT!! I have putted from fringe that is cut lower than these greens. Then I got to the front 9. The rough was not as lush, and the greens were scorched. Frankly there were spots where the green was simply unplayable. Plus the parts of the green that were playable were silly slow as well.
This could be a really neat course, but simply the person in charge of managing the course has failed to understand how to make it playable for the public. Hopefully they can fix this issue.
coarse great shape
Coarse is in great shape! I've played 7 local coarses in the last month and Soldiers Creek was by far in the best shape of all of them. Coarse has a Falling Oaks type feel because your out in nature with no houses. It's just you and the trees. Rairly did we see any other people. If I had the chance I'd play there every day and twice on Sunday.
Soldiers Creek
Great layout, service good, beautiful course, very reasonable costwise. Enjoyed 27 holes on a 90% day. Not crowded on Monday.
Fairways
The fairways are like carpet and the back nine greens are in great shape. The front nine is like all other courses in the area being aerated and sanded to regroup from winter and spring use. The owners are ever so conscious of how the course is condition and playability. We have called when we see something like a broken sprinkler head or something trivial and they are on the problem asap..As a member I choose my memberships very carefully and Soldiers Creek gives me and other member respect and courtesy.
Great course!!
Love this course! Always in great shape! What they consider as "bad conditions" is what other courses consider as good conditions.
Wasted Money
Played on $20 hot deal and that was too much.
This course is a cow pasture.
Fairways 3" high and bare sand greens.
Nice course, you get to use all your clubs.
Good course back greens great, front greens are being worked with.. Overall good course for the bucks..
Norman is awesome!!
This is a good place to get some home town golf played.
Thanks NORM!
Course has good layout
Front nine greens are spotty and under repair back nine are very good great wooded layout great bunks well maintained not crowded local course
Excellent greens
Course in good condition, despite recent heavy rains.2to 3 holes still damp.Greens in excellent condition and tue.Do not like gasoline/diesel powered bugees.Safety issues here.
Great course...hidden gem
The views and rolling hills make this course a bit challenging at times. Great value for the price! Staff is super friendly and willing to go above and beyond to help make your experience fun!
Great course
This course is a great course for intermediate to advanced playing. It has both length and accuracy components as it is cut out of woods. Its greatest attribute is its greens. The greens have both slope and speed. I definitely would call this a "players" course. I would give it a four star rating! I welcome any comments. Bruce Horrell- Golf Professional
Nice layout
Very nice layout and greens are very nice. Tee boxes were in terrible shape and fairway grass was very sparse and very hard. Like hitting off hardpan on every fairway.. Very scenic and was not very busy allowing my wife and I to play in just over 3 hours
great round of golf
great golf course to play when others are cart path only. great greens, fairways and bunkers
Much better options in Gulf Shores Area
The fairways had a lot of weeds and looked like they hadn't been mowed in a few days. The bunkers needed sand in them, as they didn't have enough in them to hit consistent bunker shots. The greens were fine, except for a couple on the first nine which had patches around the fringe that needed to be repaired. I paid $40 for an afternoon tee time, but wouldn't recommend paying more than $30 due to overall course conditions.

My friends and I are snow birds. We spend 6 months a year in southern Ala. We usually play golf 2 or 3 times a week at different golf courses in the area. We play Soldiers creek once a week for the last 5 years. No problems like the course. We are all Seniors over 65 years old on fixed incomes. We try to play the cheaper times , which usually was 39.99+ tax. This last year we tried coupons , The lady at the counter told us it wasn't as good as their senior rate. Know every time we go its a different price. Pricing is a joke for the area.
Indiana loves it
I just want to be a good source for accurate information. Soldiers Creek has the best greens in the gulf area. The course is serene and beautiful units layout. Not a trail to play but a challenge nonetheless. Ignore those who complain about the fairways if you play public in this area they all are about the same not so however with the greens, these are outstanding. Use golf now to your advantage and enjoy this course.
OMG
The condition of this course was among the worst that I have seen in playing over fifty years. The greens were OK. The rest was terrible. I think the amount of grass on the smallest green was more than all the fairways combined. We paid over $50.00 each with fees and extra taxes at the course for an experience that wasn't worth $20.00. The staff was friendly and polite. Beyond that everything was downhill. I would not recommend this course.
Pleasant Experience!
Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Greens ran true and fast except around the hole sometime. Started at 9am with our foursome and didn't feel pushed most of the day. This has been one of our favorite golf courses to play in the area!
I have played some of the Florida courses as I was a resident for 40 years and this coursein great shape compared to a good number of florida courses
