Golfer Reviews
Expected better.
Given its reputation and greens fees that are 40% higher than my home course, I was really looking forward to finally playing this course. My first disappointment was seeing the practice range was off of mats. The range balls were the saddest collection I've seen anywhere. They weren't just bald and worn--some had big chunks chewed out of them. Of course, I didn't go for the range experience, but it was an indicator of what was ahead. The fairways were horrible. I understand the issues with the weather this year and the need to conserve water, but this course as compared to others is doing a terrible job of managing with the challenges. I swear to god, as I drove out, mid--afternoon--there was irrigation running on a section of grass next to the road, nowhere near the course itself! The greens were in sub-par condition, too, with the worst being the par three on the back nine fronted by a dried up water hazard. It literally reeked! We couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Never again
I'm from Scottsdale Arizona I play 3-4 days a week and a 6 handicap and book 1-2 tee times a week on golf now. My brother in law was super excited to take me here because a friend of his is a club member at this place. We get there the weather wasn't the greatest and talked to the pro shop girl. She said she had been keeping and eye on the weather and we had a good 4 hr window, so we gave it a shot. Well when I went to pay it was $42 more dollars than what golf now had posted. They hit u up for $14 per person for a cart and don't tell till you get there. So I paid it. The pace was super slow took 2 1/2 hrs to play 9 with a twosome. We get to 10th hole finally it's backed up and then began to rain. So we called it quits went in to get a rain check. The girl stated we don't give rain checks ! I asked to speak to a manager! She also stated there isn't one on duty. She showed me a sign that was behind her that you would never see saying no rain checks. I had asked her if maybe it would be a good suggestion to tell people this policy before they spent $120 to golf not to mention the other $60 in the bar. Worst first time experience. We will be seeing the club member today for lunch I will be sharing the same story with him. Maybe he can help with making it a better experience for the next first time player there.
Course is in rough shape
I play Druids Glen at least 10-12 times a year. It is typically in great shape. I understand that the weather has had an impact on all the area courses, but the "premium" courses see me to have a handle on it, Druids does not. The greens were bumpy and inconsistent, off the fairway was either dead, or just dry dirt, and certain parts of the fairway were in the same condition. If you are going to market yourself as a "premium" course, you should be able to keep it in better shape. My suggestion would be to stay away until fall or spring, or play twilight rates. This course simply is not worth the money during prime tee-times.
Fun time
It was my first time on the course and I had a lot of fun. Great par 3s, the par 5s are reachable in 2 and it definitely challanged you. It was obviously pretty dry off the fairways and greens but i thought the greens were some of the softest ive seen latly. Cant wait to get back out after some rain!
Lovely day at Druids
Despite the dry weather the greens were in good shape. The edges of the fairway suffered damage, though. But the central portion was green and firm. Overall it was a nice round.
Great design, poor maintenance
I could definitely see the potential in this course. It's an interesting and challenging, yet fair layout. However, the conditions are sad. Many burnt out areas in the fairway and bumpy greens. Hoping that this is only due to the hot weather they have been having and that Spring will bring better conditions. A great deal via Golfnow.
Mt. Ranier views
This course would have been spectacular if not for the drought that has damaged a considerable percentage of the tract. Every hole was unique and pace of play was faster than expected. Bring lots of balls.
Slow play
From starting hole 10, up to second half hole 6,
every hole delayed 3 to 6 mins.
I found 5ball playing ahead 1teeam.
We started 1517 and quit playing from hole 7 at the time 1955.
2player behind us also gave up playing from hole 7
where we are waiting at tee up.
I wonder is it proper 5ball playing in this good course.
Conditions a Surprise
I've played and enjoyed this course for many years. Some of the best par 3's anywhere... However, the course is suffering. Fairways in very poor conditions and (perhaps in an effort to save them) saturated... Not good for play or the course.
Drought conditions
I'm glad of the water hazards were mostly dry. We haven't had rain in awhile. Fairways were in fair condition, greens were nice. At least they are using their water were its needed. Staff was great!
7 hr round
Dead fairways beatup greens and deathly slow play. Was expecting more out of a "resort" course.
Summer burn out
Fairways were in fair condition due to the hot summer. Not much grass. The greens were in great shape. Still a great challenge and superb track.
Good track
We played on a week day at mid day. Pace was a little slow but finished within 4 1/2 hours. The course was unusually dry this time as the Seattle area has been exceptionally dry. The greens were firm but held well.
Suffering from the lack of water
I love this course. . . when it's suffering from lack of water like this it's just not as fun. The ponds are dried up, the fairways are dry (although I enjoyed the extra roll.) The greens are still decent, and the staff friendly as always, but it's kind of sad to see the condition of the rest of the course.
Long day
Would be good if the starters would hold back each group for 10 minutes. We waited every hole every shot sometimes having 3 groups on one hole. It took 3 hours to finish 9 holes. When play is fast a cart is nice should of walked because a lot of time was spent waiting.
Excellent views
The extreme heat has dried out this course. You can see where they have used up their pond water to combat this. Due to the dryness, divots have not healed and are numerous on all the fairways. Do not recommend late afternoon play as the locals flood the course. Clubhouse is nice and the food was excellent. Front nine can be walked, but walking the back nine will test your fitness.
Beautiful Setting
It was the first time for my son and I to play the course and we really enjoyed our experience. We traveled almost 50 miles to play. The greens were firm but receptive and the tee boxes were in great shape. The staff was super starting in the pro shop and the starter was great providing good information on how the course was playing. We are looking forward to a return visit.
SLOW PLAY!!
This was the third time I played twilight and got in only 9 holes in 3 hours of standing around. Two of the times I called the clubhouse and asked for a marshal to come out because 4 groups were backed up. No one ever came out. The first time I complained after the round, they said, "oh, the men's club is having a tournament". I asked why they started a tournament on the same holes already being played and got a shoulder shrug and I'm sorry look. The second time they blamed the men's club again and said we could go to the front since they started us on the back (when the front was wide open earlier). NOT A FAN!!
Course was nice - not too busy
Although the Golf. Now pricing was disappointing with an $11.50 fee on a $54 deal for two (totalled $66), (a comparable $30 day the day before walking had $30 each with a $6 in fees) a and thought it included a cart based on other days I looked at (surprise!) the golf was good. we were paired up with a couple of nice individuals and enjoyed the day.
Great Day
I thought the greens were great. Weren't bumpy and rolled great. Fairways had a few bare spots which it looks like low spots were water pools in the winter. Round was over 5 hours but I still enjoyed my round. Easy walking course besides two long walks between holes on the back nine.
The Par 3's are extremely tough from the blacks.
The restaurant/bar has great food and good selection of brews on tap.
Rainchecks??? Never heard of such a thing, except maybe at Safeway. Welcome to the Pacific Northwest. Seriously, you stop play if it starts to rain? I find that fascinating.
