The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks is touted as the best mountain golf course in Colorado and even one of the best courses in the country. Towering forests of pine and aspen frame the rolling fairways and manicured greens on this scenic layout. The crystal clear creeks and trout-filled lakes are a striking contrast to the lush green of the course and the snow-capped peaks in the distance. The golf course is known for more than its scenery though, its challenging design is a test for all skill levels. The steep-faced bunkers have deeply furrowed edges, which can be tricky but they also serve to contain tee shots that might have an increased carry because of the course's dramatic elevations. There are also water hazards to contend with on several holes.

Favorite Mountain Course

I played on a weekday at the twilight rate. I can;t remember the exact cost but slightly below $100. Anyway, what a great course, without a doubt my favorite mountain course that I have played. Awesome holes with amazing views. I'd highly recommend playing this course and I hope to get on it again in the near future.

Great views

A very nice course for the money. We played this course very early season (actually skiied at a local resort in the morning and played golf in the afternoon). The course was in VERY good shape. The fairways were well manicured and the rough (which I spent some time in) was penalizing but playable. The greens were a bit sketchy and pitted (due to the early season, no doubt). All in all, this is a well constructed course with challenging holes and FANTASTIC views. I have played it before, and will play it again.

A superb mountain course

We have 2 foursomes that try to play The Raven every summer. It's a wonderful course. Last year the fairways and greens were in fine shape other than a few boggy spots on some fairways. The Raven's biggest challenge seems to be keeping the cart paths from sliding down the mountainsides....a problem common to Summit County including I-70.

The unique features of The Raven are generally wide and lush fairways, large and fine greens that are very challenging to read and great elevation changes.

Bring your camera for great Rocky Mountain scenery combined with a fair amount of local wildlife including fox, deer, an occasional moose and ospreys that for years have had their huge nest on a post overlooking the 3rd fairway. You may see an osprey snatch a large trout from ponds of The Raven or the neighboring ponds and fly it back to its tall nest on the pole.

The Raven staff will welcome you to a great day of golf and send you off on what begins as a rather tame front nine. But as you climb from the Blue River valley uphill to the par 3 8th hole (appropriately named Buena Vista) you'll be ready for 2 very exciting downhillers. The 8th hole measures 184 yds from the Raven (tips) tees and 134 yds from the forward tees. A Texan with a good game should probably hit about 3 clubs less than he'd hit this distance in Texas due to the approximate 150 ft. drop from tee to green and the thin, light air at almost 9,000' above sea level. Of course this depends on the wind that day. Just don't miss left or long!

Then #9 is a breathtaking par 4 with a launch pad tee box that must sit 300 feet or more above the green on this par 4 monster. Drive your tee shot straight out into the Rocky Mountain air and watch it drop hopefully to the center of the lush, downsloping fairway. Then hit your long iron to the left front of the right sloping green, earn your birdie or par and head happily past the beautiful Raven clubhouse and patio to the even more challenging back nine.

The Raven's back nine has two very tough par 3s (#12 and 14) and five fun but challenging par 4s. But it's the two par 5s that really define the back nine here. #11 (properly named Waterloo) is a super risk/reward hole. Your tee shot hopefully will land just short of the large trout filled pond straight off the tee. A well-struck 200+ yard, high risk second shot over the pond puts you in great position for a birdie or eagle. But the more prudent shot tends to be playing the hole as a double dogleg and hit a mid to long iron left of the pond in preparation for lofting a high, soft iron to a green that can be tough to hold.

My favorite hole is The Raven's signature #16. It's a long downhill, dogleg right par 5. Measuring 601 yards from the tips and 489 yards from the forward tees this hole welcomes a long, left center tee shot followed by an equally long and well aimed second shot near or on a well- bunkered, roller coaster green. From #16 you begin a long, uphill climb through two tough par 4s and finish at a high point on the course.

After your final putt on #18 you'll drive a long, steep, downhill cart path with lots of switchbacks before returning to the clubhouse for a great lunch, dinner and/or drinks on the normally sunny patio. Our group loves this place.

Great mountain golf

I've been playing the Raven since 2007 several times each summer. Course conditions are always excellent. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. The practice area is well laid out and convenient. A bit expensive, but hey, it's mountain golf in a resort area. Rates compete well with other comparable course in the area. Views are awesome. Course is challenging but fair

Need better greens

The conditions of the green were poor in August all three times that I've played the course. Putting through multiple bare spots is never fun. Many mountain course have difficulty maintaining good conditions on the greens, however this course has been below average every time.

Plenty of challenging holes on the back 9, front 9 is much less difficult. Views are gorgeous from most tee boxes.

My Favorite

The Raven at Three Peaks is by far my favorite course. You will not find any better course conditions and views from every hole on this course. The layout is challenging but fair, and regardless of how you play, you are never disappointed. The staff is great and friendly, the club house and the food is great. Just seeing the holes as you drive up the road to the club house makes you want to just jump out and start playing. If you have never played this course it has to be on your list as a must do, no question!!

Superb Mountain Golf

My group of mostly out-of-state players thoroughly enjoyed playing 36 holes here last July. They seemed to enjoy playing the second round from the White tees after getting beat up from the Silver Tees on the back nine in our first round.

The fairways and greens were in fine shape other than a few boggy spots on some fairways. The Raven's biggest challenge seems to be keeping the cart paths from sliding down the mountainsides....a problem common to Summit County including I-70.

Awesome Scenery

Have played this course several times and I can't wait to play it again. Great friendly staff, beautiful scenery and a fun course layout. If you have to complain about the pace of play, then stay home! Your in some of the best views the Colorado Rockies has to offer. Relax and take it all in. 5hrs on this track is the norm.

Great track!

I was luck enough to play this Course in the late fall. The changing of the leaves made a great Course even more enjoyabale. In my opinion this course is what Mtn Golf is all about! The Front 9 is much tamer then the the back 9. There are plenty of Biridie opportunities on the Front. The back 9 is a different story. When you get to #10 you see immediately that it's time to really focus and hold on for a fun and difficult ride. I really enjoyed this course and it was more then worth the drive. I plan on returning to play this course as soon as the summer arrives!

My new Favorite Course

I couldn't find anything wrong with this course even if i tried. Superb! Granted, I went during off season when affordable.

Staff was fantastic. Course Layout made each and every hole exciting!

There are multiple holes with extreme elevation changes.

Bunkers were soft and plentiful.

Playing early October

Beautiful course!

Way too much information from the starter. Not happy with his intervention of which tees to play either.

Main complaint: the play was so slow! Over 5 hours. We saw the ranger once, - and only on the back nine. Would have been wise for the starter to advise the max score and pick-up, and the refreshment cart? First time by, she didn't stop. Second time we had to flag her down. Then not again. Simply not good for an extrembly slow playing, hot day, mountain course.
