The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks
About
The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks is touted as the best mountain golf course in Colorado and even one of the best courses in the country. Towering forests of pine and aspen frame the rolling fairways and manicured greens on this scenic layout. The crystal clear creeks and trout-filled lakes are a striking contrast to the lush green of the course and the snow-capped peaks in the distance. The golf course is known for more than its scenery though, its challenging design is a test for all skill levels. The steep-faced bunkers have deeply furrowed edges, which can be tricky but they also serve to contain tee shots that might have an increased carry because of the course's dramatic elevations. There are also water hazards to contend with on several holes.

Awful conditions!
Normally one of our favorites, Raven conditions getting worse and worse. Group of 16 play the mountains every year around late June. Don't waste your time at Raven until they get their act together; play Keystone and Breck instead. Greens were so slow--maybe a 7 and as a result not very true. Tee boxes were burnt, many fairways under repair, and weeds throughout bunkers. Staff blamed the winter and lack of moisture however Breck and Keystone just a few miles away were in far better shape! Oh yeah, we saw the cart girl once on hole #2 and never again! Course layout is amazing and normally a must play. I hope they get it together.
Not worth the money
Played the Raven a couple of days ago and had a poor experience. The course itself came out of this winter in less than average shape. There are many areas of ground under repair and fairly large parts of the course are soggy from the spring runoff. This problem should cure itself within a few weeks and by fall the course should be in better condition, but for now be warned that there are many areas that are in poor condition.
In addition, many of the bunkers have weeds or grass growing in them and are poorly maintained.
The second issue with the round is that it took nearly 5 1/2 hours to complete. The two groups in front of us were together and played much of the course just like a group of seven. The pace of play was awful and the ranger came by one time and never stopped or made any attempt to correct the problem. The course staff seemed uninterested in hearing about it after the round was over.
I've played here several times before and never had this pace of play problem so it may have been a one time affair, but given the response of the ranger and shop staff it would concern me to return and face a similar problem again since they were uninterested in correcting it.
Now for the good, this course is in a spectacular setting, the mountain views and rolling terrain are second to none. Fall is a particularly wonderful time to play as the fall colors are fabulous on this course. The front nine is like a roller coaster ride in the best possible way. The first couple of holes are down and then flat and then you begin the climb up the mountain. The climb is rewarded with fabulous holes on #8 and #9 big downhill par 3 and par 4 holes that area blast to play! The back 9 is a little less of a thrill ride but still a lot of fun, particularly #16 a big par 5 that is downhill and allows for getting there in two with two good shots.
The greens were also in very good condition, they rolled smooth and true although were VERY slow.
I love the layout and when in good condition and with a good pace this is a very fun round.
Hi "acesxthree" we sincerely apologize that you had a negative experience out on the course. We are so sorry about the pace of play issue, in that situation the ranger should of stepped in. We are glad that you love the layout of the course and we hope you will come back and see us again soon.
Elevated Golf
If you are looking for true Mountain Golf, then look no further. This place has the views that you will want. It also has some dramatic elevation changes. I do believe that from the top of the 8th tee to the 9th green is a 450 foot drop.
I will get rid of the negatives. This place is crowded during the summer; the 4.5-5 hour round can happen especially on a weekend. It is also quite pricey in the summer. Twilight or shoulder season pricing is recommended highly. Depending on the winter, the conditioning in the spring could be iffy. Not bad, but not perfect.
As for the positives, the course has everything a travelling golfer could want. There is a practice facility with a driving range, putting green and short game area. There is always a restaurant and sometimes a patio grill There I a halfway house stop. The patio is a nice place to enjoy a meal with views.
This is a template for mountain golf. Elevation changes up and downhill abound. Scenery is splendid with views of mountains in all directions. The 10th hole is short but quite uphill; count on at least one extra club. Downhill, there the aforementioned 8th and 9th hole-the 9th might have the biggest drop in the state and the 16th hole. The 16th is a dog leg par 5 that with the elevation drop is reachable in two. A lot of fun.
The par 3s have some variety. The front nine par 3s are shorter and one plays downhill. The back nine's are longer. They also play in all four directions. The par 4s have variety in length, in shot shape and elevation change. I did notice that as the round goes on, the challenge is taken up. The last couple of par 4s are the most difficult on the course. They also have water in play. The par 5s also have variety in directions. The 11th is risk reward with a big hitter able to go for it in two; water is in play on 2nd and 3rd shots. The 16th, as mentioned, is a lot of fun.
If you are up in the mountains, this is a great place to get the real Mountain Golf experience. I just hope you can find a time that isn't crowded or overpriced (not worth over $100 to me) If you can play it for a decent price and not crowded, it is very enjoyable and one of my favorites in the mountains.
Thanks for the great review, Jeff! We love to have you on our course and are glad to hear you enjoy it. Hope to see you again soon!
Amazing!
While in Keystone I played two other courses, but everyone kept asking if I had played the Raven. After playing the course I knew why. Amazing views from every tee!
Incredible Late Fall Conditions
Course played extremely well considering it's early November in Summit county. A little bit slow play ahead but the guys behind us were staffers, very nice and friendly. Late season sanded greens played slow but we got used to it after a few holes. Overall an awesome Monday afternoon at The Raven!
We are happy to hear you had an awesome Monday afternoon at The Raven! Come tee it up again soon.
Don't Miss this Course at these prices
This is an amazing course. I golf throughout Eagle and Summit counties, pretty much exclusively on mountain courses. This is a top favorite of mine. The GolfNow and late-season rates are unbeatable. I wish I could play it this cheap in prime shape in July, but the staff keeps this course in great condition clear through mid-November. Pace of play is usually great, although got paired up with an elder couple that certainly slowed things down. I'll be back out there again this fall with these prices still going.
Thank you so much for the review! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your time at Three Peaks! See you soon.
Worth the drive
Excellent course and very scenic. Challenging layout that makes you use every club AND every shot in your bag! Great views and wildlife abounds.
Thank you for the 5 star review! We are so happy to hear you thought it was "worth the drive". We hope to see you again soon!
Great layout, good price, fall conditions, horrible starter
Some cool holes with lots of elevation. Fair course if you are hitting drives straight, it will be a long day if you are even a bit wayward. Usually greens are fast like two weeks ago the pins were placed on diabolical slopes, but much slower due to sand. I hit avg score 74 but several one putts (total 26) mostly because I chose to use wedge to fly to pin & could be aggressive with putts. I booked via phone online and didn't see the "aeration warning". My fault there, but it explains why Golfnow offered $30 + book fee. Weather was fantastic, nice playing partners & only course in Summit County still open. Biggest complaint was starter, that guy is one cranky SOB. I live in Silvy so arrived 30 mins early to hit the range, but the clock there is not correct. I still arrived to 1st tee (per my Samsung Sprint phone# about 2 min prior to t time, but the starter allowed the others to go early. He barked at me right away and told him to calm down, then he chose to escalate things which I thought was rude then I told him he had a bad attitude. I work in retail & resorts for last several years, and have never argued with a customer or guest like this. This guy should be fired. Turns out we caught up to group in front but no starter/ranger around to push play along. Management should worry more about slow play. We stopped in bar #window closed) after 9th just to allow group in front move on so we didn't have to wait on each hole, but this group stopped too then rushed to 10th tee when they saw us. Overall it was 4.5 hours so our speed of play was on average. Just wondering how a group with 3 players hitting off silver tees + 1 lady hitting off gold catch up to a group of guys after 4 holes?
Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate hearing what our golfers have to say! We hope you will give us another shot sometime in the near future.
Amazing
Amazing course! A must come to if you're up this way!
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience at Three Peaks! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us!
Unfortunately downhill
Played this course 8 years ago when it was owned by Intrawest, it was my favorite course.
When I played it on 10.4.205, the driving range tipped me off. Very few balls, and those that were there were muddy.
The course has gone downhill. Fairway's were punched and tons of punched debris littered the fairways. Weeds in the sand traps, the Columbine flowers were gone and the greens were bumpy/poor.
8 years ago, it was a 10, today it is 6.5 in my book. Paid $50 to ride, not worth the $100 or so during peak season.
We are sorry to hear your recent experience at Raven didn't meet your expectations. We work hard to make sure our golfer's enjoy their time with us and we are sorry you didn't get to see that. We hope you will give us another chance in the future.
Very slow day
The course was in great shape, but the pace of play was terrible, 6 hours your wasn't any one attempting the course Marshall didn't attempted to improve the pace of play all day
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience at Raven at Three Peaks. We are sorry to hear you thought the pace of play was not good. We hope you will give us another shot sometime in the near future.
Great golf and gorgeous fall colors!!
Had a great time! Course was in great shape and the fall colors were phenomenal!!
Thank you for the 5 star review! We are so happy to hear you had a great time at Raven at Three Peaks! We hope you will be able to make it back again this season.
Slow. slow play
I had played this course 8 - 10 times previously and enjoyed it. This time it took 6 hours to complete the round, It was "exhausting"
Green were in pretty rough shape for the most part.
Still beautiful scenery. We saw moose, foxes and hawks.
Hi LBWilson,
Sorry to hear your round took so long but how exciting that you got to see a moose, foxes, and hawks! We hope you will come play again soon and give Raven at Three Peaks another shot!
Thanks,
Ravengolfclubrep
Playing the Raven under fall colors
Great time of the year to play mountain golf. Course was in good condition with the exception of a couple of greens that needed work. Fall colors were beautiful and overall experience was very good. I would certainly go back again. Golf Now discounts made the cost of play very affordable.
Thank you for your feedback! Glad you got to enjoy the beautiful fall colors! Come back and see us again this season.
Not worth the money
While, not my first at The Raven, it was most likely my last. Course conditions definitely did not warrant the $90 price I paid. In the past conditions have been much better and cost was much less. The other factor was the 5 hour pace of play. It was a weekend round, but the course marshals we ran into just didn't seem to care about the situation. Their response when asked about the slow play and numerous backups was "at least the weather is nice".
Sorry to hear your round of golf at Raven at Three Peaks was not up to your standards. We work hard to make sure our golfers have a great experience and we are sorry you didn't get to see that. We do hope you will give us another chance sometime in the near future.
The Raven
Great mountain weather. Course was in nice shape and the staff was very courteous. Would recommend this course for the golf and the scenery.
We are happy to hear you not only enjoyed the golf but the scenery too! We look forward to seeing you sometime in the near future.
Mountain Course Extraordinaire
Thoroughly enjoyed the round. The course was spectacular and the staff was especially friendly. We found a 'Hot Deal' rate but would have gladly paid full price for the experience. Should definitely be on the MUST PLAY list while in the Summit/Eagle county area.
Thank you for the 5 star review! We are happy to hear you think Raven at Three Peaks is a must play. Come see us again soon.
Excellent course and majestic scenary
I really like the course layout and course condition. The greens were true and reasonably fast. The elevation changes were much more dramatic than I had originally thought. Beautiful course. Also, the wildlife can be seen throughout the course.
One downside. The Club accepted a 7:03 AM tee time knowing full well that there is a high likelihood of a frost delay at this time of the year.
Thank you for the 5 star review! We are happy to hear you have a pleasant experience at Raven at Three Peaks! We hope you will tee it up with us the next time you are in the area.
Super course
Spectacular course in design, condition and environment. Fun to play. Challenging for sure but different tee boxes make it easy to tailor your game to the course.
Not one single criticism! From signing in to getting a cart to the exceptional nature of the course and to its exceptional surroundings (including wildlife), would recommend this course to anyone.
Wow, not one single criticism! Thank you for the feedback. Come tee it up again soon at Raven at Three Peaks!
Mountain Course
The course was in great shape to play. There is a fair amount of room to land in the fairways but tightens by the greens. Many sand traps guarding them. The GPS helps but they also have the prisms on the flag sticks for laser link. A tough but mostly fair course. The greens are hard so tough to stick the ball and there is plenty of movement on the greens. Fast but smooth & true. I did not like the few greens that sloped to the rear as the balls ran off even with a good approach. Knowing that now, I will play them differently the next time. Pricey the first time but there are deals if you play there again.
Hi DWolson- Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience at Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
