Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Under construction
Played the Split Rock portion of the course. 6 tee boxes were moved up drastically as they are build new ones. Pace was super slow and the twosome behind us hit into us 3 times. Could be great once they finish construction.
Half the course for split rock was under construction…
Half the course was under construction.. tee boxes were moved up to the rough right before the start of the fairway and on top of that there was active construction going on the back while your trying to tee off and it was just ridiculous. I would not recommend this to anyone any time soon.
Price gouging at its worst
Nowadays I think there are two types of people who play here - ones who have too much money and the others who have no other options. I played here because I belong to the second group, with all nearby courses booked solid in the morning. And boy do I feel cheated. I’ve been here 4-5 times before and the green fees keeps going up, and the quality is going in the other direction. I paid $85, including a cart, for a sub-standard course with most tee boxes dug up for repairs. It had rained the day before so there were puddles all over the fairways, and some bunkers looking like mini ponds. In spite of a 636 tee time, we teed off 15 min late so can’t imagine what the later tee times looked like. And did I mention they also charge $3 for parking? A regular beer is $8, and the list goes on. I know golf isn’t a cheap game but this course has perfected the art of price gouging because they know the market and understand that people will pay whatever to be able to play at a time they want.
The only one good thing I’ve to say is that the dreaded mosquitoes are gone. Now not sure whether they did something about it or was just the cool spring weather. And the starter (sorry didn’t catch his name) was nice and seems to love doing his job.
All in all, two thumbs down. Unless absolutely forced because I have no other options, I’ll stay away from this course.
Never want to play at Split Rock
I was stock on Split Rock which is a course disliked by many in my group.
I hate Split Rock
I booked & expected to play Pelham, but was pushed onto Split Rock, which is disliked by everyone in my 2 groups. I NEVER want to play Split Rock again!!!
Poor Maintenance
I’ve played here a handful of times and I won’t return. The course is poorly maintained and the cart path is in need of repair. The mosquitoes are abound which is very distracting and an unpleasant experience. The staff is friendly but no rangers help move the pace along. So much potential but no upkeep.
I’m disappointed with this course.
Great course but too slow
Being 25 minutes behind teeing off on hole 1 is not a good start. Especially when your tee time is before 8:15 AM. That just doesn’t make sense. Be ready to wait every hole if you are playing on the weekend. Other than that the course & staff are great.
Brutal roughs and slow play
every time I’ve played this course it’s been abnormally overbooked and you can expect to wait at least 10 minutes for another group per hole. Nearly impossible to get 18 holes in unless you have an early tee time and don’t mind playing a 5.5-6 hour round. Conditions of the fairways and greens were solid, the roughs hadn’t been maintained in a while from the looks.
Great tee shots that took a bad bounce would instantly disappear in the thick rough, making for a very frustrating round.
If they maintain the place a bit better and don’t over book tee times to make an extra Buck, this place could be great.
6 hour round is pathetic!
If you have almost 6 hours for 18 holes on a Saturday afternoon then this is the course for you. Rangers are useless with ushering the slow groups ahead. Course conditions have improved but it does not make up for 30 minutes from the time I hit my first tee shot on 1 til my first tee shot in 2. Don't play here if you don't have at least 6 hours to spare.
I have played this course many times so I now know what to expect. The thing that bothers me most is that even when going as a single there is absolutely no chance of finishing a full round in under 5 hours. I played 11 holes yesterday (1-9, 10, 18) and it took 3 hours 50 minutes. They really need to figure out how to speed up the pace. Other than that, the course was in decent shape for this time of year.
Spring golf
I found the course to be in reasonable shape, with some aeration of tees and fairways. The greens are inconsistent speed wise, but decent.
