Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Course layout is great!
Course itself is great. The pace of play was slow at first. Course has rough spots but overall enjoyed playing.
Pelham course review
There are 4 9s here we played pelham (the other split rock is harder and the mosquito infested side). Looks like they aerated the greens 2-3 weeks ago and sand everywhere on greens but it wasn’t too bad .. some places had dead Harlan for fairways and roughs (due to drought). Course in much better condition than forest park and some others
Under par
Sadly I’ve played here a few times and it hasn’t improved. The cart paths are dangerous and in need of repair. The tees are terrible with little to no maintenance. The mosquitoes unfortunately are unavoidable since the course is surrounded by water but it appears very little is done to mitigate the swarming mosquitoes. I would not return anytime soon, perhaps in the fall with no expectations.
pelham
took 4 1/2 hours starting at 7 am, thats slow ,
was charged $3.30 for a kit kat Thats bad
course is in great shape, greens in great shape
Aeration without notification
Usually a nice and well maintained course but I was very annoyed by the fact that there was no notice on golfnow about the course condition. Not to mention two groups in front of us playing like they're the only ones in the course. Had to skip 18 due to lack of sunlight.
Not a bad course
The course is not difficult and they have the standard amenities bar, cart girl, carts included in decent condition. The course isn’t prestige but not in bad condition. Mosquitos are around due to the water nearby so bring repellant. Employees are nice and work with you . It’s a great location if you have friends that all live in different regions of the tri state area.
Split Rock
Great layout
Tough with mosquitos in this weather
If no breeze you will be eaten alive on holes 5 -9
The cous
The tee boxes are in deplorable condition, the staff is not solicitous, we were given a cart that ran out of gas waited a half hour for new cart. The carts were filthy
Barbara, the starter, is spectacular....
I had a great time at this golf course. Most favor Split Rock, but I've only played both once about 35 years ago, and this golf course is just fine.
I got to the place and was a little lost. People were nice and pointed me to the pro shop. I got a cart and met Barbara who is the starter on the first tee. Big outing so she was trying to manage a lot. She did beautifully.
I was early so went to the putting green and a rarity nowadays... chipping allowed! I thin that alone is worth the price of admission!
The golf cart was a bit tattered. After I played my second shot on the par 5 2nd, the buggy died. I took my bag off and carried, but called a nice fellow named Nick in the pro shop requesting a replacement.
It was a hot day. Maybe in the 90s not sure. After I got to No. 6 I called again. Nick was very nice, apologized, and said he'd try again. Not much later along came Barbara and then another associate of hers. It was very much a friendly experience. No tension, no crabbiness at all. So valuable in this day and age!!
I got a nice cart, and was off to the races. My fellow golf companions were regulars. I'm bad with names but one was a retiring IRS agent and finance guy. Everybody knew him, and he was.a very good golfer.
A Korean couple was our better half. They are 'members', and love the place. They are in their 70s but the Mrs. was a putting demon! "Mrs. One Putt", I called her.
At one point, heading home, a fox trotted right out in the open. A big beautiful fox in the Bronx! This was the mama fox according to our group members, who told me they have a litter of babies.
I played this course last and one once in the 80s. It was the Publix Qualifier and the place was hardpan galore. A real sloppy track.
Not anymore. The greens were pretty buff. Yes, you'll find closer-cropped putting surfaces at the nearby country clubs, but for a muni the surfaces were excellent. Fairways were too, in spite of the lack of regard by golfers.
There was water in coolers. I play at other supposedly upper-crust Westchester public venues where there is no H2O at all! Often, the concessions are cash only.
Not so here. I was able to buy a cold rink with my credit card. Yup... this Pelham links had not only free water every few holes on the tees, but a beverage cart on the course that can actually process a credit card transaction! Whoa!!
This is a good venue where nice people golf and work.
