Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
It has been avery diffilcult and challnge course.
Some of greens are in a very bad shape. They need more and better maintanace.
very dissapointed
II have played Pelham several times and I do not recall the greens being in such very bad shape. They were really bad. Also, why does every round have to be between 51/2 to 6 hours. Where are the rangers???
Great place to place early back nine
The reason I put <3 was due to the fact that I played the back nine only. The staff at Pelh-Split Rock were great and the course was in great shape considering the recent heat wave.
Not the best conditions a course can be
Overpriced for quaility... Needs to work on the condition of the course. Many other courses out there in better shape and les $$$
Sloooooowwwww pace of play
Of all the good things to say about this course, I can't get past this fact: our round took more than 6 hours, and that was after a 30 minute delay at the first tee, so we finished about 7 hours after our tee time (and we are fast players). To be fair, it was a Sunday morning on perhaps the nicest day of June, but that pace is just unacceptable. It's a very nice course, often wide-open with a few challenging holes and good distance throughout. And it was in very good condition given the foot traffic, bunkers and greens well maintained and almost pristine fairways. I would love to play this course again, but I'll never try it on the weekend given the death march I experienced.
Slow Play
On a Tuesday afternoon the round took nearly 6 hours. Course was in good condition but there was absolutely no supervision of pace of play. On the first par 3 (#3 hole) there were 3 foursomes waiting when we arrived. There was a course marshal riding around but he didn't appear to do anything but burn up gas. Clearly there is a huge management problem at this facility. This is a shame because otherwise this is a very nice facility with a nice course layout.
It took over 6 hours for waiting and playing.
They had a tournament at Split Rock, and they moved all other players to Pelham Bay. As a result, most people waited for over two hours. They should have not taken any reservation, and they should tell people about it, so they could go to other courses.
It was a total nightmare!
Short and challenging course
The staff at the course are excellent and always pleasant!! I'll be playing here for a while!!
Split rock course is good.
Split rock course is better than Pelham bay. Green is maintained well, fairway is good as well, and not too crowed. Price is acceptable.
Need new management
What a disaster! They had two outings going on, one at split rock and the other at Pelham. They for some reason still booked tee times for when the outing were being held. The computer system crashed before I was about to pay. They sent me over to the bar area to do the transaction. The guy registering us was calling out tee times in time order for everybody who still had to pay. My tee time was at 11:30 and I wasn't rang up until 12:30. I would not go back because I hear this type of unorganization is very common there.
greens aerated and need growth it is still early
always liked the layout at Split Rock minor waiting gotta keep it straight trees are lovely old forest and really big
Early Season Round
Although the greens are not yet on the best of shape, the course played very well. Trees have been lost becuase of hurricane Sandy last year, and that makes this open course even a bit more forgiving. It was a good time.
early season
its early season, but putting green was kinda horrible. if you could sink a 6 foot put your lucky
Terrible experience
I cannot believe that Golfnow has no way to notify customers that greens had been recently aerated. This was the biggest waste of money I've experienced since using golf now. We had to play the front nine twice since the back was closed. The greens where in such poor condition that a and wedge was better than a putter. Some holes the hole was cut on the fringe. What a joke. I will never go back here. Golf now may have lost a customer.
Course has a good layout , however it needs work .
The course needs maintenance badly, the tee boxes and greens were in bad condition.
Greens
I really hope Pelham can recover their greens. I know it was mid march I played but it's not looking too good for majority of their greens
One of the better courses in NYC. Great facilities.
I played Pelham Bay three times so far this winter and it is one of the better NYC courses in my opinion. Most of the holes are tree lined, but the fairways are pretty wide. The greens are big with lot of contours and undulations, and many of them have multiple tiers (the green on the fourth hole is a roller coaster!). There is a nice mix of different hole designs, including uphill and downhill holes, doglegs, short holes and long holes. Lots of deep bunkers. Tee boxes are nice and level. The golf carts look pretty new and the club house is really beautiful. Staff is friendly. The practice putting green is big, which is nice because some city courses don’t even have a practice green at all.
The course can play very long and difficult in windy conditions. The holes near the high-point of the course are exposed to the wind. It feels like you are always playing into the wind, never with the wind at your back. Some of the Par-4’s are very long; there are four of them that are about 420 yards or more from the white tees. For a short hitter, like myself, that means I need a fairway wood to reach the green in two, even if I have a great tee shot. There are a couple of short Par-4’s that makes up for the long ones, but the course still plays longer than what the scorecard says, especially on a windy day. I think the 10th hole (an uphill 432 yard Par-4 from the white tees) should be changed to a Par-5. That would make the hole a lot more fun in my opinion.
Overall this is a great course if you live in the city and don’t want to drive far. Also, in the winter, I think this is one of the best maintained courses in the area. Lastly, pace-of-play is typical for a public golf course, expect a >4.5 hr round on the weekends.
Horrible conditions!
Course conditions couldn't have been worse! Greens even had track marks on them!
Good condition
Especially being the time of year that it is,overall the course was in good condition.
GOOD COURSE, WELL MAINTAIN, WIDE AND LONG FAIRWAYS ON PAR5S AND CHALLENGING PAR4S AND 3S
GOOD COURSE, WELL MAINTAINED, VERY WELL MANAGED, WIDE AND LONG FAIRWAYS, CHALLENGING PAR4S AND 200YARDS PAR3S
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
A couple of the greens had track marks on them because some kids riding ATVs broke onto the property and rode across them and therefore damaged the grass. The greens have been repaired and will be fine. This course's greens are still some of the best I've seen at this time of year.
