Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

No effort was made to remove leaves making play difficult, tee boxes were in bad shape, lots of bare patches on fairways. Restaurant was ok and restrooms were very clean.

Very nice course. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

except for the constant bunker tee boxes, the course was in excellent condition for the rain that came down recently. Good value for money. plays here about once a week recently.

Had a tee time at 1:30 and had to wait on the first “tee box” until about 1:50 to tee off as there were three groups in front of us. Waiting on every single hole with the group in front of us still on the tee when we got there. Only got through 14 in 4.5 hours. Tee boxes are in brutal shape, especially the first one. Those need to be fixed and tee times need to be more spread out. Ranger should try doing his job too.

Second time at Vannie was good, but the pace was slow, sudden rain shower ruined it, 6 holes couldn't be played due to the rain and darkness.

But overall, we had fun.

It's not perfect. The first tee box is mud. The third tee box isn't much better. But this course isn't meant to be perfect. If you're looking for an immaculately manicured course go somewhere else. If you're looking for an everyman's course steeped in history, you've found your home. There's a few challenging holes, but it's a mostly straight forward no frills course. Most of all, it's convenient for the City golfer, the clientele is friendly and you can usually score some recycled balls from the guy selling them through a hole in the fence for $5/dozen.

As for a previous review, the parking fee is not a scam. And the staff being unfriendly? Did you try paying for parking with a hundo? That will make the the parking guy unhappy....did you give the pro-shop staff attitude about the lack of amenities? That will make them unhappy too. I assure you, if you're pleasant, they will be too. To a point. It's still the Bronx ;)

I should have expected less being in the Bronx, however the experience was poor from start to finish.

First off you get surprised by some guy in a golf cart collecting $3.00 just to park. Then after we parked about 10 minutes later he rolls up to the clubhouse And screams to his friends let's get home. Certainly is a scam for sure.

Extremely rude staff during the entire process of checking in.

The first tee box literally was mud. No grass to be found. It was disgusting. The starter seemed friendly but certainly could not help matters.

The conditions of the fairway were poor with extremely thin grass obviously not well-maintained. The greens were somewhat decent but that did not make up for the overall conditions which were poor.

The pace of play was way too long at almost 6 hours.

There are too many better courses located elsewhere with far better amenities and better conditions. Skip this place.

Very pleasant surprise! Beautiful, well designed course. Makes you forget it’s surrounded by busy Bronx neighborhoods. Steady pace. Finished round in 4 hours. Excellent condition of putting greens. Frankly, just as nice as any Westchester county public course, except for the tee boxes and bunkers. Dispelled my prior reservations about driving to play here.

Course is well kept and friendly staff. This course makes you use all of your clubs and thats something i love most about a good golf course. You wont be disappointed.

I'll start by saying I've been playing Vannie for better than 25 years and so I've seen it in all conditions. But I've never seen it WORSE than it is now. The tee boxes are more like sand traps with tiny patches of grass but otherwise fully chewed up. Clearly no maintenance has been happening here for some time - and they'll say it's because of C19 - but other nearby courses aren't struggling anywhere near what Vannie is.

The rangers literally do NOTHING, what is the point!? Tee boxes are gross. Other than that, course in decent shape.

This course has been neglected badly. It was nice at the start of summer, but now unrecognizable as if it were abandoned.

The greens were like the surface of the moon with all the aerated holes.

Avoid this course you will be disappointed particularly if you play well.

And what’s up with the first tee box being non-existence ? I was told by starter that it was cursed by Babe Ruth in the 1940s.

Was intrigued by course being oldest public in the country. Layout was excellent , conditions surprisingly good for a municipal course (although tees need some attention). Played early 18 in 3 hours. Extremely enjoyable round of golf, albeit a bit pricey, but I factor in it is basically right in the city. I will play again.

Conditions were really bad. Fairway most holes was hard terrain and anything in the rough was filled with sticks and hard ground. Unless it was a bad day would never go back.
