Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

Play early. I started at 7 done by 11. Muddy in some spots..but greens were true.

Took us over 4.5 hours to play 13 holes. Group in front of us took very long at each hole and every time a player couldn’t find a ball the entire foursome would all stop what they were doing to search for it. There was also a group of six!!!! two groups ahead of us. No Rangers or staff onsite to speed up play.

The conditions of the course are awful. Tee boxes have no grass and minimal dirt. Good luck placing a tee in crabgrass.

I like the course layout and some interesting holes. Problem is the greens and tee boxes are not in good condition. The greens had been aerated so that might improve on its own. The tee boxes are poor, many with no grass.

VC is a joy to play. Its history does not escape it. It's where public golf began. Its oretty and with its own share of challenges. I always look foreward to playing it

I picked a day right before an expected storm, so a lot of people, mostly foursomes, showed up to get one in. I started as a twosome, but after several holes behind a really slow group, the other guy bailed

The greens were freshly aerated, tee boxes moved up, and not the best, especially the first one which is a driving mat surrounded by dirt. The round was 5+ hrs, that had groups cutting around all over trying to finish. Just the wrong day, weekdays usually better.

The course is a decent course however, the areas that needs a massive overhaul are the Tee boxes! They are horrible!

I honestly think Van cort is good for the money. Relatively cheap, good architecture, and close to manhattans. Tee box is mostly destroyed w sand… and i don’t expect much maintenance going forward… but good for the money and 1 train takes you all the way to bronx too. Often times there are first time players bold enough to walk, which i discourage coz its a long distance to walk btwn holes and they always drag the game… if you play afternoon expect 5 hours playing
