The elder statesmen of public’s. Great layout. Could use some love particularly around tee boxes. It will never be Beth Page Black. It is what it is.

The first tee shot was away, not bad, then four women came on the course looking for a dog, and constantly yelling . They claimed it was allowed by the pro shop. Thankfully it was a slow day reducing their risk for injury.

First off, I had no issues with the coarse layout or the conditions and the staff was terrific; However on a crowded day (Veterans Day), I was on double deck for most holes and walkers contributed to the pace due to very long walks between some of the holes. Be weary of Hot Deals here. They charge $18.98 convenience fee for two and charge another $40 for a cart (on top of the Hot Deal price)

Reading all the great reviews about this course I was excited to play it because mostly everyone said the course conditions where great. I couldn’t be more disappointed with the maintenance of this course. I felt like I was hitting off dirt. Grass, didn’t see much of it. Tee boxes didn’t have any grass, fairways where VERY spotty. My lawn was better than this course. If I knew I could of upload photos I would of.

Never play this course again even if it was for free

Probably the most accessible non-executive 18 hole course from Manhattan, straight shot up the 1 train and drops you off a 5 minute walk from the course. Had an 11:45 tee time and did not tee off until 1pm because the "frost conditions" from the morning delayed everything for everyone - I felt like that situation could have been managed much better (I.e. cancel earlier tee times or give notice to all reservations). Once we were finally on, the course was great and it very well kept for the standards of a public NYC course (except for the tee boxes). That being said, the pace of play was excruciating - we barely finished the round by the time it got dark. A round that should have started at 11:45 and been done by 4pm became an all day affair and we did not finish until 6pm!

No effort was made to remove leaves making play difficult, tee boxes were in bad shape, lots of bare patches on fairways. Restaurant was ok and restrooms were very clean.

except for the constant bunker tee boxes, the course was in excellent condition for the rain that came down recently. Good value for money. plays here about once a week recently.

Had a tee time at 1:30 and had to wait on the first “tee box” until about 1:50 to tee off as there were three groups in front of us. Waiting on every single hole with the group in front of us still on the tee when we got there. Only got through 14 in 4.5 hours. Tee boxes are in brutal shape, especially the first one. Those need to be fixed and tee times need to be more spread out. Ranger should try doing his job too.

Second time at Vannie was good, but the pace was slow, sudden rain shower ruined it, 6 holes couldn't be played due to the rain and darkness.

But overall, we had fun.

It's not perfect. The first tee box is mud. The third tee box isn't much better. But this course isn't meant to be perfect. If you're looking for an immaculately manicured course go somewhere else. If you're looking for an everyman's course steeped in history, you've found your home. There's a few challenging holes, but it's a mostly straight forward no frills course. Most of all, it's convenient for the City golfer, the clientele is friendly and you can usually score some recycled balls from the guy selling them through a hole in the fence for $5/dozen.

As for a previous review, the parking fee is not a scam. And the staff being unfriendly? Did you try paying for parking with a hundo? That will make the the parking guy unhappy....did you give the pro-shop staff attitude about the lack of amenities? That will make them unhappy too. I assure you, if you're pleasant, they will be too. To a point. It's still the Bronx ;)

I should have expected less being in the Bronx, however the experience was poor from start to finish.

First off you get surprised by some guy in a golf cart collecting $3.00 just to park. Then after we parked about 10 minutes later he rolls up to the clubhouse And screams to his friends let's get home. Certainly is a scam for sure.

Extremely rude staff during the entire process of checking in.

The first tee box literally was mud. No grass to be found. It was disgusting. The starter seemed friendly but certainly could not help matters.

The conditions of the fairway were poor with extremely thin grass obviously not well-maintained. The greens were somewhat decent but that did not make up for the overall conditions which were poor.

The pace of play was way too long at almost 6 hours.

There are too many better courses located elsewhere with far better amenities and better conditions. Skip this place.

Very pleasant surprise! Beautiful, well designed course. Makes you forget it’s surrounded by busy Bronx neighborhoods. Steady pace. Finished round in 4 hours. Excellent condition of putting greens. Frankly, just as nice as any Westchester county public course, except for the tee boxes and bunkers. Dispelled my prior reservations about driving to play here.
