Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

This is my home course, so I'm a bit biased, but I still think they are doing a great job with it. I know that staff is short there, but the greens are in good shape for the most part and the course is well maintained. It gets a TON of play, so I think they leave the grass on the greens a bit longer, which usually makes them roll a bit slower. That being said, I'd rather have slow greens with grass than barren greens with dirt patches! Definitely worth the trip up on the 1 train to check it out, especially since it is the oldest public golf course in the country. Note that they haven't put the black tees out yet, but I'm told they will later this Summer.

As the oldest public golf course in America this is a treasure for the city of New York. I wish they would put a little more money into maintaining it it would spread out the foursomes so the pace of play could be a little brisker.

I have wanted to visit this course for a long time and now I finally have. It is a wonderful parkland style course up in the da Bronx. Old timey feel, huge Oaks, Cottonwoods, Chipmunks, Red Wing Blackbirds, and decent layout. Maybe best in NYC? Course conditions were pretty good. A little more water to green up the greens, some trimming on one of the par 3s so you can see better would be nice. Friendly guy in clubhouse got us primed and ready. I recommend this course, but don't tell anyone.

Course was really nice. starter was super friendly. wish I would have been able to finish the course however. The pace of play was horrible had A foursome ahead of me hitting 3 and 4 balls. They should have someone really driving the course constantly to keep the pace. I shouldn't be running out of light starting at 3pm. Great looking course but I wouldn't play here again if its not early.

This was two weeks after I last played the course, and the difference between course conditions was striking. It wasn't terrible last time, but the greens today were pretty well prepared and frisky as all get out. Above the hole and you questioned your life choices, that is how fast and pure the greens were. There are still places around the fairway and rough that are in need of tender loving care, but those greens made the round challenging and testy and fun.
