Mosholu Golf Course

The staff here is most accommodating. I arrived an hour early to warm up; however, the driving range and practice bunkers were restricted to First Tee members only. The starter offered me instant access to the first tee, and off I went. I could have used some warm up with my hybrid, so I swapped it for a five iron.

I moved along swiftly until the third tee when I spotted a foursome in front of me, And so I chilled in the woods and scrounged up some lost balls in the poison ivy (not recommended if you don't know how to wander through it). At each 3 and 4 parr tee, I would shag a found ball at maximum swing speed and promptly slice it back into the rough. (The course giveth, and the course taketh away.) I would follow it up with a controlled drive down the fairway.

This was a fun day. The course is in tip-top shape, and there were groundskeepers everywhere keeping it that way. Since I was all by myself and not keeping a card, I could drop the ball anywhere I wanted to work on my weaknesses. For example, downhill lies really challenge me, and the same goes for uphill bunker lies. You can't practice this stuff on the range.

I shall return to this course, and hopefully I will be able to play solo again. At 72 years of age, my playing gets sloppy after 14 holes, and so nine is fine. I rented a push cart for $7 and got some walking exercise, which I don't get on the regular courses.

My only issue is with the driving range. It should not be indicated on the entrance sign and on web sites if it is unavailable to the general public.

Waited 40 minutes past our tee time to tee off. 9 holes took 3 hours with the delay.

The absolute worst course management I have ever seen in my life. Granted you are paying $20, BUT seriously??? I saw an 8 sum and a 6 sum including a baby in the course. DON’T PLAY HERE.

Don’t be tempted by the price. You would have to pay me the greens fee to play the course. Not only was there a 6 person group in front of us, but in front of them was a group of 8. Both groups could not hit a ball. Realizing that, we went back a few holes so that we could actually play some golf, only to be scolded and told we can’t replay the holes. Very unprofessional. It was extremely cheap to play, but still not worth it. You get what you pay for. Go buy some lottery tickets with the money you would spend playing this course, you’ll have more fun wasting your money on a potential winner than playing at Mosholu.

1. Very good staff. Friendly, accommodating, helpful. Sign in guy in lot, drives your bags up to the starter (who does that on a public course).

2. Easy to get on. Book online, there are always tee times open.

3. Public course but in pretty nice condition.

4. Only complaint is pace of play on occasion gets out of hand as there are weaker players on the course and there is rarely a Ranger around to tell them to pick up and move along.

I’ve come back here for many years while learning the game & getting back into the swing of things. The staff has always been courteous & I’m anticipating the new opening with the new driving range as unfortunately you can’t use the present one which is reserved for the first tees.

Played with my son for his first time. He enjoyed it and I enjoyed being with him. Staff members were on point and friendly and very helpful. Ty
