Great course especially for the money...
id only played Marine Park once before few years back and didnt recall how interesting and diverse the course is with its par 4 and 5s. I loved the course and would definitely be back hopefully this year.
Overview...
The absence of common sense most evident by, most notably, rakes not provided nor are water stations and putting greens being off-limits continues to be problematic. This is the direction and fault of elected officials, not management! Otherwise, most fairways are manageable but some putting greens need attention.
Good service adds to the enjoyment.
,
not to shabby
started at exact time. pace was very good.. would play again
tough greens
the course was in excellent shape, greens were fantastic and very tough, the fairways were good and if you hit off the fairway very challenging, in all the course was in the best of most of the city courses if not all
Classic muni.
Marine Park is your classic muni. Nothing fancy , a challenge for hackers and low hcpers alike. The landing areas are generous, lies are flat, and the fairways are firm. That’s a double edged sword, straight drives get plenty of roll, errant shots find a way of tricking into trouble.
The greens are firm , fast, and fairly well maintained with plenty of slope. Don’t expect them to hold mid irons from the rough.
They’re very commendable for the amount of traffic this course gets.
While the layout isn’t fancy, straight and flat, once you get away from the VanWyck it is quite beautiful, open and windswept with occasional views of the bay and the city in the riddance . There were hundreds of birds, swans, ducks, geese, gulls and herons congregating in and around the marshy pond near the tee of the 9th hole.
Marine Park’s defense is the wind. Set in a coastal marshland, the course is wide open, links like with few trees, lots of waste areas, wild grasses, mounds and fescue. The wind often whips in from Jamaica Bay, complicating an otherwise benign layout. You need bump and run game to play this course as it is meant to be played. At 6800 from the tips in even breezy conditions this course turns into a bear. On a properly windy day, fugghedaboudit.
The pace of play is slow, but not brutal. Again, it’s a city muni, everybody plays here. I’d play again if I’m ever out that way. One last thing. As the sun goes down the mosquitoes rise up. It is a marsh after all. Bring bug spray.
Best public course in the city.
Marine Park has really set themselves apart from the other munis in NYC over the last few years. This is especially true post-quarantine. Course is in great shape, some improvements are always being made, they have an on-site (irons only) driving range, and cold beers.
Practice green and short game area are still closed, for now.
A little beat up
I’m guessing it’s the end of the season so fairways, greens and rough need some tending to.
Quality Course
At this stage of the summer, it's hard to find courses in good shape. All greens except one were in good to very good condition. Most fairways were in good to very good condition. Grass outside or short of fairways were in ok condition. Bunkers had no rakes and thus difficult to hit out of. Would find your ball burried in the sand. Pace of play was bad. Ended up playing a 4 hour 50 minute round. Value is there with it not being an expensive course that is in good condition. Would play here again.
One of the best in the City
Marine Park never disappoints when compared to other public courses in NYC. Given the current circumstances because of Covid-19, the course is in pretty decent shape. Pace of play, as always, is an issue. But we teed off right on time.
Marine Park Golf Course
With everything going on in the world they were able to reopen in good condition and quickly brought it up to great condition. Many of the local courses cannot come close to MPGC. The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways are in very good shape.
The staff and management did a great job under very difficult conditions
The staff is always very friendly and very helpful. Obviously management knows how to hire!
Yes, they need new carts, and the cart paths are not in good shape but that is, considering the situation and in my opinion, no problem. The course is in great shape! everything else will fall in place. Thank you Marine Park!
Good course
Greens are good except a couple of holes that looked like they have been weathered. Overall, course is good, def recommend and will go back
