Washington County Golf Course
About
Located just northwest of downtown Milwaukee, Washington County Golf Club (formerly known as Family Park Golf Course) feels much further thanks to its seclusion in the beautiful Kettle Moraine area. Arthur Hills designed the course, which is ranked second in the nation among municipal golf course in Golf Digest. The layout sprawls across wide-open, gently rolling terrain. The subtle contours of the landscape provide a few difficult lies and they can also make the greens hard to read but overall it is a course that most players can approach with confidence. Thanks to a versatile layout it appeals to a wide range of skill levels and it is an ideal spot for tournaments and events. Over the years Washington County Golf Club has hosted several championships including the U.S. Open Qualifying Round and the Wisconsin PGA Championship.

Fine Course on a Fair Day
Golfed with a friend at Washington County on a seasonably cool and windy day in early October. My partner and I both loved the course, and I managed to shoot a 77, a very good score for this golfer on a cool day. Drove my golf cart right next to a deer on the back nine.
Wishes
I wish there had been a way to be notified when booking the tee time that there was a junior tournament going on as I wouldn't have booked this despite the great price I got.
Excellent Course conditions - Cookie Cutter almost boring Arthur Hills
After playing Lawsonia Links the day prior we ventured to this track which is highly ranked by magazines and GolfNow users. Course conditions were outstanding and was well marked. That being said they have a $40 rate prior to 10am...booked a 937am arrived early around 9am. Had to beg our way on early (almost had to demand it) as there was empty 1st and 2nd hole but several groups likely a mens league practicing their putting...rushed out at 9am and finished at 1210. Had we kept our original time we only would have been on the 10th hole at 1210 which would have been well over a 5 hour round with a mid-morning start on a weekday!! Unacceptable. (we were also held up by two fairly accomplished walkers - this is far from a friendly walking course by any stretch) and they were basically pacing themselves with a two-some of hackers in a cart that probably teed off 40 minutes prior to our start.....
Built in the late 90's this treeless Arthur Hills design was okay but it's not a course I'll go back to as it suffers from a "sameness" from hole to hole. While I can see why the magazines and other GolfNow folks like it unfortunately it's just not all that interesting or memorable of a track. A couple of holes are pretty cool but it's 4 star overall at best and feel that's pushing it....3.5 maybe....wide fairways and the typical A. Hills some greens big on hilltops and other greens long/skinny angled from your approach....but it's that "sameness" and very contrived in areas that gets old with this particular designer of way too many golf courses. Over the years the only A. Hills that I've played that's memorable or what I'd consider creative is Stonewall Orchard in Grayslake, IL.
A $35 course or under in my book. If I lived in the area I might play it couple of times a season just for the sake of variety of play (the course conditioning is outstanding/top notch) but I certainly wouldn't pay their $65 weekday rate they charge after 10am....and I wouldn't put up with an easily over 5 hour weekday round had we kept our original time...being reasonably close to Milwaukee can envision that there are many other courses with more variety/adventure/scenery (and shade).
Recommending only due to course condition (and play it prior to 9am otherwise I think you have to gird yourself for a 5 hour plus round any day of the week). Not a track that I'm chomping at the bit to get back to but it was worth one play...I'll allow that.
Next best thing to Ireland
Fantastic layout, visually pleasing, walkable. Fairly open, but some challenging areas. A few unrepaired ball marks on the greens, but otherwise excellent condition. A pair of sandhill cranes were following us at one point. VERY large practice range with well-maintained tees.
One of the best
As good as any course in Wisconsin. Great layout, super affordable. Conditions were perfect. True greens, flat well kept tee boxes, amazing practice facilities. Beautiful scenery. This ans University Ridge are my two favorite wisconsin courses
Weekday golf
Was ok experiance. Booked tee time for golf by myself, when I got to the course I was put with a twosome which I was not happy about.
An Arthur Hills gem!
This course is a gift to the Washington County area...great links style layout...very playable but offers plenty of challenges for the better player as well, especially if the wind is up. One of the best practice facilities I've seen anywhere in the country....large range, multifaceted short game area all surrounded by a 3 hole practice course that can be used by adults, kids, women, etc. independent of the 18 hole course.
Aways great conditions - tough in the wind
WCGC is in great condition - even at it's high rate of play. A tribute to the staff. Reasonably priced food and beverage, with a very friendly crew. The many tee options make this course a challenge, yet playable, for all skill levels. Golf pricing is reasonable for county residents, but a little high for others. Overall, a good value, that could be a great value at a slightly lower price point.
Great value
My son and I found the course to be very challenging but fair. Course was in excellent condition. You're going to lose some balls so don't spend a lot of time looking for them. Only thing missing was marshal to help push the play. You
Washington county
The course was well worth a little extra money
Was very challenging and makes you play all your clubs
The staff was great very helpful and don't forget the ruff nice and thick
But a good shot is rewarded tks
Wash Cty
Excellent links course, great setting in a well kept facility.
Excellent Course but Usually Windy
Get ready for the wind as it always blows at Washington County. The course was in terrific shape with manicured fairways and greens. It played pretty firm though but still the greens were receptive. One of the top public courses around. If you can find a good deal on Golf Now, don't pass it up.
Great Condition! Great People!
Fantastic golf course, great layout and condition is great.
Good public course for all players
It's still early but some of the tee boxes, fairways and greens weren't in mid-season form yet. But the layout is very nice - no bad holes - and it's an open course that you can score on. Back nine is a little easier. The wind is the defense for WCGC. Definitely worth playing.
Washington County Golf Course
The Good: Extremely well-maintained municipal course about 30 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Arthur Hills track is primarily devoid of water and trees, but still an interesting layout that has a little Scotland in it. Beautiful fairways and challenging, slick green complexes. Good variety in Par 4's and Par 5's, particularly on the front nine. Superb practice facility for a public course and decent on-and-off course amenities. Staff is nice enough. Very good value, especially twilight and off-season rates.
The Bad No GPS on carts. Not much of an upscale service feel. Limited variety in the Par 3's and Par 5's on the closing nine. In-season pricing is steadily rising.
The Verdict: Washington County is one of the better courses in the greater Milwaukee area. While nothing that will make you say "wow", but a fun course that is fair for all levels of play. Super conditions.
Best Hole: The Par 5 7th is a great hole that requires a drive that avoids water and an approach that must cross a creek to a thin green.

A test in tough wind
Price: Booked 9 holes and a cart for $21.
Staff: Front desk guys were great, allowed me to have my buddy ride along with me even though he wasn't playing. Great service, friendly, accomodating. Will definitely be back.
Golf: 40 mph winds. I saw a chip hooks about 3 yards. A chip. Still had a blast. Late October and the greens / fairways were still is excellent shape. Top notch public golf at WaCo.
Review
The course was great at $36.00 always enjoy the course but during prime season it is to costly.
best value around the area
The course condition is very steady. This course never disappoints me.
Pace of Play.
My only problem with this course is that they do not have a ranger that would go around and speed up the pace of place. Spent quite a lot of time waiting. It was my first time to hear that a twosome let a foursome play through.
