Grey Hawk Golf Club
About
Grey Hawk Golf Club is a challenging but playable course that is a Cleveland area favorite. It brings resort-quality golf to a remote location in LaGrange that is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The rolling landscape is the ideal terrain for links-style golf. The course demands accuracy with lightning fast greens surrounded by bunkers and be sure not to stray from the fairways or you'll almost definitely be left with an uneven lie. Unlike a typical links golf course, there are water hazards coming into play on several holes on this layout. The 11th hole features a tricky island green while the third hole has an equally challenging "island green" that is surrounded by sand. Grey Hawk Golf Club is a formidable but fair test with interesting and diverse hole designs.

Decent course, rude staff, slow play
The course layout is fun and challenging. It was generally in pretty good shape, especially for being in the middle of one of the hottest stretches of the year so far. That was mostly overshadowed by the incredibly rude and unhelpful staff, which was literally everybody except for the girl working at the bar trying to take care of everybody by herself.
The pace of play was so egregiously slow, even though it was the day before a holiday and I understand it was going to be busy. The pace was just awful and there was nobody on the course doing anything about it even when something was said to the course about it.
It's not a course that I would drive to or pay the price tag to play again unless somebody I knew really wanted to play it. I'm glad that I played it, but there are a ton of courses in Northeast Ohio that have way better layouts and conditions for this price point. I personally probably will never be back
Great layout
Fun course , plays long from the tips. Layout is very interesting, has some very unique holes. Greens and tee boxes are in great shape. Hot weather recently has left a few dry / burnt out areas on the fairways and rough. Pace of play is very slow. Overall , you should definitely check it out. Outstanding value.
Greyhawk
Course in good shape. Sometimes they like to send people of back for 9 and screw the people who are making the turn.
Great Layout
One of my favorite public courses on the west side of Cleveland. Nice variation of holes that present a variety of challenges. Fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. Greens were firm and fast. Number 4 green looked like it had some distress, but putts rolled true. Course probably plays a little shorter than listed yardages as firm greens and closely cut fairways provide extra roll. A 6:50 tee time with only twosomes in front of made for an unusually quick round. Saved a few bucks with GolfNow hot deal, but still a good value at list price. Play here at least few times a year. Should play here more often!
Pretty Good!
Fun course, reasonably challenging. Bunkers were hard packed and the grounds are a bit rough in terms of ruts and terrain near the cart paths. Otherwise, a well-maintained course with good practice facilities. I enjoy playing this course a few times a year.
Some warn areas near greens where grass was dead, or bare dirt. Dry. Not in the usual shape seen at this course. Greens were OK, but a few had bare spots, lumpy, uneven roll.
Great track
Incredible layout, very tight, hard to hit greens, lots of water, takes a real shot maker to score low here. Course in excellent condition. Tee to green. Only issue is the lack of food and drink, bar was closed. Also fairly far out so long haul for anyone east of I71.
Great value
Really good course. Have played it before and never disappointed.
Best course in Lorain County
We play Grey Hawk a few times a year as it's over an hour's drive. This is by far one of the best public courses in Ohio. The conditions are always excellent, and the greens are some of the smoothest and best kept we play all year. If you are within 2 hours, it's well worth the drive.
Very Enjoyable
The course was in excellent condition. The greens rolled fast and true. The fairways were carpet-like and the tee boxes were well above average. Most of the traps were in good shape, but some were not well-drained and others needed some work. The carts really could use GPS, or at least some more clear markings regarding distances. You may want to use a range-finder, but if you do, please be quick about it.
Not enjoyable
Played here a few times, and every time I go I saw it will be my last. Carts are old and outdated, I expect GPS for the price point. Course is overly difficult which drastically affects pace of play. Bunkers were not maintained. I was paired with a near scratch golfer and at the end of the round mentioned he wouldn’t play again it it was free.
Greens were in great shape. Fairways abover average for this time of year. Boxes, hazards, and rough were terrible.
First Round
First time playing this course. Great layout and even better condition. Will definitely return throughout the summer.
Grey Hawk
Recent heavy rain, but course drains well and was very playable.
Best around
I love this course. It’s very challenging, and the wind is always blowing. The moguls and fescues make it feel like The Open. I love playing early spring when the wind is really howling and it’s still cold. It’s in as good a shape as possible for the weather we’ve had.
