Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
About
Ron Jaworski’s Riverwinds Golf & Tennis Club is situated along a scenic stretch of grassland between the banks of the Woodbury Creek and the deep harbor marina on the Delaware River. Its location gives it the feel of traditional seaside links courses found in Scotland and Ireland, which is further enforced by the sod-wall bunkers that lurk near the greens. The layout features plenty of water and incorporates the surrounding wetlands as well. One unique feature of the golf course is that the routing winds across a mile-long twisting burn, creating a visually interesting setting. Riverwinds begins with a gentle, mostly flat front nine but the mounding becomes more aggressive as you move onto the back. All of the holes face a different direction, which means you’ll most likely be using all the clubs in your bag to tackle the crosswinds and rugged terrain.

Great course - r e a l l y s l o w. !!!
Great design
Good shape
Friendly staff
Painfully slow !!!!!
A public course wanting to position itself as a country club for a day , will never get there with a pace of play that that has you waiting on every shot
Sorry !
Nice track but played slow
The course was in nice shape, greens were pretty fast and true. There was only one green that had some damage on it, the rest were great. We got there and were told about a pace of play of 4:08 and it ended up playing over 5 hours. Ranger was seen only once on the front nine and got the groups moving a little on the back but damage was done and he had too much course to worry about as the only ranger so he couldn't stay on top of them. I would play again...
Nice course !
Good layout....great pace of play ...rangers visible...
Great food in the main restaurant !!
good deal, good golf course, bag guys and starters are great. Beverage cart and stand needs help, not supplied well and only accept cash, well thats what we were told
The Thought Gives Me The Winds
"Ron Jaworski's" RiverWInds turned out to be an enjoyable course, although the 2nd cut was really high and incredibly unforgiving for a decent golfer playing it for the first time.
I was treating some customers, and having to rent clubs for them, I was embarrassed at their rentals. Shame on them (Jaws!) for charging full rental rates for what looked like the lost and found bucket was pilfered. No less than three manufacturers and no continuity between clubs. The driving range? Four mats and a net. I'd have given it 4 stars (3.5 if it was an option), but 3 stars due to the silly aforementioned items.
If I were playing by myself, it would have been fine, but not for customer golf.
So, bring your sticks and have already warmed up somehow. Otherwise, it'll be like going to Subway and expecting the sandwiches to look like the commercials.
Great Links-Style Layout
Riverwinds is the best of the Jaworski courses in my opinion. The course is on the Delaware River with great views of Philadelphia. Fun layout and the course was in very good shape when I played. I've heard mixed opinions on pace of play but it was great for me (under four hours). Only gripe is the lack of a driving range, especially given the length of the course; would be helpful to have some warm-up. But for a public course, it's a great option.
best shape ever
had not been to Riverwinds in a few years. Played an early morning round and I was impressed. There was a large crew working on the course and the entire course was so much nicer than I ever remember it. The greens are smooth and putt true. The tees and fairways were in excellent shape and the traps were also in perfect shape. There is a friendly staff and its a pleasure to play here. There used to be a pace of play problem here and it looks to be much better now. The layout of the course is wonderful. My hope is they add some yardage plates in the fairways to help the golfer. There is no range to warm up and that has always been an issue but the course is a real winner. Nice job Jaws!
Great day at Riverwinds
The course is so much better than a few years ago. The layout is first rate, the fairways and greens were just about perfect. We will definitely be back.
must play
if you have the chance to play this course, you should do it. fairways, although a little moist from all the rain lately, were great. However, if you are a little off, the rough is DEEP. Keep a good eye on the ball because the rough will eat it up. a very enjoyable round. the greens were faster than what I've been used to lately, but rolled very true. i look forward to coming back and playing the course in the very near future
Always a Good Choice
RiverWinds is always a great choice when looking for a challenging and fun experience. Some rolling hills and long holes make it tough for shot selection, but if you play it all correctly, you can really post a solid score. Big greens yield a lot of 2 putts, sometimes even 3. Plenty of opportunities for birdies, but just as many for bogeys and more.
Thanks for the kinds words! Looking forward to having you play again! Hopefully more Birdies roll in!
Never again... I should have listened to the reviews
All the reviews talking about the terrible pace of play - 100% correct and I should have listened to them... My group got to the course 30 minutes early, and drove up to the practice area (just a net) to loosen up a little. The starter rushed us to get out to the first tee immediately, so we drove up to where we then had to wait behind 2 groups on the first tee.
Every hole we waited no less than 10 minutes, closer to 15 minutes a hole. The Marshall was actually very nice and spoke to the groups ahead of us that were holding everyone up after we complained... but wasn't really effective. I understand there's only so much they can do, so I didn't expect him to keep pushing them, but we eventually gave up after 16 because we were already coming up on 6 hours. Not exaggerating, 6 hours for 16 holes of golf... slowest, most unenjoyable round of golf I have ever played. The players in front of us were definitely slow, but when a course doesn't stick to their tee times and is more concerned about getting as many groups in as possible to make more money, you can expect 15+ minute wait at every tee box. Again, no exaggeration... on one hole, we waited probably closer to 20 minutes.
On top of all that, the bunkers were filled with water, some didn't even look like bunkers they looked like ponds. The geese loved it I'm sure, but good luck trying to find your ball if you go in. Even the bunkers that weren't filled with water, terrible shape.
Course has a lot of potential, some pretty cool hole designs, especially on the back 9... but you couldn't pay me to play here again.
I understand your frustration as mother nature threw us a curveball and gave us a frost delay which put us behind from the start. Rest assure we take our pace of play very seriously here along with course conditions at RW. Hope to show you that in the future.
Geese and Droppings Everywhere
You know I like Riverwinds, but the huge number of geese (honking every hole gets old) and goose droppings everywhere are major deterrents to having a pleasurable round of golf. We had these same type of conditions last November; this round was scheduled thinking conditions would be improved -- they were not. Ownership needs to visit this course and tone down the voicemail announcement ("... beautiful Riverwinds ...").
We understand your frustration as this has been an issue. We currently have Geese Chasers here twice a day 7 days a week. I hope you see our improvements the next time you play! Thank you for the feedback!
Surprisingly good for February
It was a great afternoon both with the weather and the course conditions.
I recommend this course to everyone
Interesting layout
Course is usually in good shape. Greens are a little fuzzy but to be expected this time of year. For a course in the lower flatlands of new jersey, it has ample elevation changes and contour to keep any golfer who enjoys a reasonable challenge interested. I enjoy playing here any time I get a chance, especially when I can get a golf now discount. The biggest drawback of the course is its lack of amenities. Once you are on the course there is no opportunity for respit at the turn. Jaworski really does need to remedy that.
Cold but good
Not bad for January! The course was in good shape- greens were nice- and the turf was decent. Went out as a single and flew through it, with only a few other brave golfers behind me. The wind made it a bit more challenging, but it's rare to play this course without it.
I think that the reason for slow play boils down to players who don't know how to manage the cart path / fairway /must walk area. I've seen players walk to their shot, look, walk all the way back to get a club. It's a lot of course for high hcp'rs who aren't mindful that they clog up the entire course behind them if not playing actively 'ready' golf.
