Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
About
Ron Jaworski’s Riverwinds Golf & Tennis Club is situated along a scenic stretch of grassland between the banks of the Woodbury Creek and the deep harbor marina on the Delaware River. Its location gives it the feel of traditional seaside links courses found in Scotland and Ireland, which is further enforced by the sod-wall bunkers that lurk near the greens. The layout features plenty of water and incorporates the surrounding wetlands as well. One unique feature of the golf course is that the routing winds across a mile-long twisting burn, creating a visually interesting setting. Riverwinds begins with a gentle, mostly flat front nine but the mounding becomes more aggressive as you move onto the back. All of the holes face a different direction, which means you’ll most likely be using all the clubs in your bag to tackle the crosswinds and rugged terrain.

Wait wait wait
Get ready for a at least a 4 1/2 hour round to 5 hour round. Slow play they overbook and only set tee times a short time apart so you are always waiting on each hole and have someone behind you waiting. The carts are terrible for the price you pay they should be brand new. Several times seen golfers broken down in carts or with flat tires. Cart paths are not all paved so bring your dusk mask and back brace because they are covered with broken shells and have undulations all over. They have two holes roped off for no reason which makes play even slower and you need to walk over very wide fairways should you hit it to the left. Very dangerous 1 mile drive from makeshift club house at a tennis center to first tee. Witnessed head on collisions because of their lack of safety regarding carts leaving for first tee. And you have to cross a road with on coming traffic to get to first hole with no warning signs to let you know it. I do not know how sanitary the food is at the turn but that grill is left out all the time so I am pretty sure rodents get in there. No bathrooms on the course just two overloaded porta potties. Sand bunkers are not filled properly with sand. The rough is almost unplayable it is thick and long even after cutting. You would think for what they are charging you would have cart paths, good carts, sand in the bunkers, a place to go to the bathroom, timely play, more playable rough, and a safe environment. Also, the water in the ball cleaners smells. Don't know how sanitary the drinking water is as not sure how often they clean out and sanitize the water dispensers. Also lots of bugs. Top management has a lot of work to do other than just counting their money. They should get to work correcting these shortcomings.
Decent
Course was nice, I played awful, caught behind a really slow twosome, didn't see a ranger until 16th hole, fairways were wet from night before, but really nice course
great deal
Went through golf now and got a very good price. Very enjoyable round, although a little bit of a struggle because of unfamiliar with the course. Would definitely love to play again
Riverwalk
Jaworski has done a great job turning this course around. Everything is in decent shape. The greens need to be rolled so are strangely slow and spongy, but everything else about the course is too quality. It's a bit long for some with the white tees playing over 6500 yards, but I especially like it because there is s lot of risk/reward course management you need to think through. Views of the river and the city of Philadelphia I the distance are great. Practice facilities are still non-existent and the starter got us off about 10 minutes late despite it being a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant is 5 star quality. I'd play here again.
Fun Round!
We played early enough in the morning where there wasn't a crowd. They get a TON of play so it's important to find a good time where it won't be too crowded. I actually stopped playing here for a while because rounds used to be really long.
Wished the greens rolled faster but other than that the course was in great shape. We didn't have anyone in front or behind pushing our group and finished the round on time. Very enjoyable.
Fun Course to Play
Although it plays long from the white tees with some forced carries, it is still a fun course to play. The course is well groomed, the fairways are generous and the greens are smooth albeit a bit on the slow side. The signature hole #17 is a extreme downhill par 3 to a semi island green in cove off the Delaware river. In wet conditions it will be "Cart Paths Only" for most, if not all the course.
Slow greens; slow play
Greens were painfully slow as was the 5+ hour round
Fairways looked nice but we're spongy so not much roll
There was no place to get a sandwich when we started and we were told there was food at the halfway house - it was closed when we got there
Not a great experience
lacking on course staff
I really like the golf course and mostly the staff is always courteous and friendly. On this day there was no starter on the first tee and we didn't see any staff out on the course until he drove up behind us while I was on the tee preparing to hit when he could have lagged back. This wasn't the courses fault, but we played with a single who teed up on the black tees and he was way overmatched. If he didn't lose at least a dozen balls I'd be surprised. Barely made the fairway on some holes and couldn't reach some of the par 3 holes. It was not my place to say anything to him and I throw this back to course management a little.
somewhat scenic
This is a difficult course for me. It is well maintained for the most part. You get some nice views of the Philadelphia skyline and the fun 17th hole literally on Delaware River.
Barely worth the money
No practice facility, pace of play is longer than average, and the rough was very thick with all of the dead grass clippings clumped on top. Very glad I didnt pay full price of $75. Definitely not worth it. Lost my putter cover on the first hole but group behind us was nice enough to give it to the Ranger. After going to the pro shop and waiting 15 minutes for staff to retrieve it, they couldnt find it anymore. Very disappointing.
Big and bumpy
The course layout is awesome...until your on the green. The greens needed to be rolled. Very bumpy it was just like playing on aerated greens. Our foursome was very disappointed about the greens. But still was a wonderful time to be out golfing
Nice course
Overall opinion of the course is excellent. The only drawback was the beverage cart who never stopped to ask if our group wanted anything. Seemed that person just road the cart paths.
Great layout, great shape
Love this place! 13-18 are really great holes. Greens were in amazing shape for March, slower but rolled true with no bumps. Met Jaws on the 18th green which was a nice way to finish up. Highly recommend this place. If you're not below a 10 handicap I don't recommend moving back past the white tees. Long hitters and low handicap guys, the black tees are awesome!
Good course layout, great river views.
This course was in very good shape considering it was early in the season. Temps about 60 and windy.
Would say this is great course for fair to good players. May not be perfect for seniors due to walking distances from carts paths to several of the greens.
No two holes alike, Plays 6500 from the whites.
Philly View
I tee off early right behind the members so the pace was very good. Plays fairly easy.
challenging course "windy"
course was in excellent condition considering the time of year..fairways thick no need to move ball..greens in great condition and pure..the back nine is along the river and windy..always take a windbreaker jacket in the golf bag just in case..it was warm but when we made the turn to the back 9 the wind picked up and had to put on jacket...no place to eat other than restaurant along the river away from the clubhouse/tennis courts (inside)..
Geese&dog droppings&fleas
This is a great golf course but there is an issue with geese and dog droppings everywhere. You can't lay a club on the ground in most places. The fleas on the back nine were unbearable. There were swarms everywhere so bad we did not finish the round. I love this golf course but I will not be back until they clean the place up.
River winds
Course conditions for January are fantastic, played in 3 hrs, and that was hitting extra balls , greens rolled exceptionally well for this time of year, and for 18 bucks on golf now , you can't beat that, it was as if I owned the course myself, only saw 2 other golfers all day behind me!!!
Great course. Too many geese
Beautiful course. Great condition. Fun, somewhat easy test. But way too much geese excrement. I mean, it was almost impossible to hit s ball and not have it land in some. The sand traps looked like mosaics. Upon closer inspection, it was geese tracks. Too much. But great track. For the money at least. I paid $25
Good close course near Philly
I played Riverwinds once before in a tournament and it stuck with me as a new favorite. For a December cold day and the first hot deal I ad seen on Golfnow at 18 bucks made the value that much better. 45 normally at this time of year, which still isn't all that bad. The course was in great shape. A bit wet due to some recent rain, but overall it played just fine. The layout of this course can play long from the white and blue tees, particularly with cold winter winds coming off the river makes for that much more of a challenge. The greens are sizable and fast. The breaks can be tough to judge and the course doesn't give it to you unless you hit the center of the cup. The bunkers played great, a few had standing water and were being fixed up but that didn't cause a problem. Definitely a course to take a cart, or else the walk will be pretty long. there are some good views of the river and city front, but it would be nice if more trees were removed to enhance those views and elevate the experience. I like this course a lot and will definitely be back for continued play. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
