Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
About
Ron Jaworski’s Riverwinds Golf & Tennis Club is situated along a scenic stretch of grassland between the banks of the Woodbury Creek and the deep harbor marina on the Delaware River. Its location gives it the feel of traditional seaside links courses found in Scotland and Ireland, which is further enforced by the sod-wall bunkers that lurk near the greens. The layout features plenty of water and incorporates the surrounding wetlands as well. One unique feature of the golf course is that the routing winds across a mile-long twisting burn, creating a visually interesting setting. Riverwinds begins with a gentle, mostly flat front nine but the mounding becomes more aggressive as you move onto the back. All of the holes face a different direction, which means you’ll most likely be using all the clubs in your bag to tackle the crosswinds and rugged terrain.

Excellent Course
This was the second time I have played RiverWinds and it was spectacular. The fairways were pristine and the greens were is amazing shape. The greens ran so well that putting was definitely a challenge. We ended up having perfect weather and it was a great day all around. I will definitely be returning to this course.
Great layout
Course was in great condition. Pace of play was slow. 2.5 for front 9 holes.
good course, great conditions
1st time playing the course, was impressed with the conditions and lay-out. As typical with a public course, my only complaint is with the golfers who do not fix ball marks or fill divots. Since the weather was perfect without any wind, it probably played easier than usual. Will play again in the future!
Great Value
This course is one of the better designed public courses in South Jersey. The course conditions are now at an all time best. The conditions couldn't be any better. The fairways are generous and the greens challenging. The view of the river is a nice treat. I played here when it first opened and a few times over the years. Nothing compares to what condition it is in today. I plan on making it part of my regular plays in 2017.
Worth the drive
Lovely course, challenging in places, and in good condition. The wind was moderate on the day we played, but that definitely had a big effect on a few of the holes on the back nine, e.g. #10 par 5 which was incredible.... hit good drive and then 3 wood, but went maybe 70% of normal distance, struggled to par the hole. The "special" price was outrageous in my favor, the normal $45 cost would be totally fair for this course. Downside is that there are no after-golf facilities.
Jaws knows his golf
Ron (Jaws) Jaworski, former Philadelphia Eagle QB, has a very nice course in South Jersey. We really enjoyed the round. Fairways are like country club fairways. It's an interesting layout with the Delaware River and its tributaries surrounding a good bit of the property. The 17th "island green" was especially fun. It is fairly open making some errant shots salvageable but others could end up in the river. If it's a breezy day, you'll have to consider that before you pull a club out of your bag. The staff was friendly and I can't wait to come back, particularly if there's a good deal on GolfNow.
One of the best public courses in the area
This is one of my favorite courses in the area. Although it has a different architec, I believe Tom Fazio's crew did the sculpting, the place has a great look and layout. This is a decently long and challenging track, but not too tough for the average Joe. That said, my scores tend to trend a bit higher here. This is a links style course appropriately named Riverwinds. Part of the course runs along the river, with some cool views of Philly and bridges, but it's still removed from houses etc so you get away from it all. One of the signature holes is the 17th, short downhill par 3 with an island green, cool views. All the holes have character and challenging greens that are tricky to read. This feels like a newer full sized tour stop, play it from the tips and you'll see what I mean. Badass! I love the place, great track!
Fun to play
The course is in excellent shape. Got to play a links course in a 30-35 mph wind. Very enjoyable day.
Needs a driving range to be a true golf experience.
Terrible experience
3 hours to play 9 holes.
Holes 4 -8 had 3 groups waiting to tee off.
After 12 holes and 3:45 quit for the day.
Terrible experience.
Marshall's not doing their job.
Will never return
Great Hot Deal, Great Weather
Staff was nice enough to add two friends to our tee time.
I felt the started talked down to us a little since it was a foursome of ladies.
Course was in pristine condition and greens were rolling nice.
Staff cleaning our clubs reminded us to show our scorecards. In the restaurant for an additional 10% off bill.
Great weather day for late October.
course was a changle to play
the staff was friendly. course was in excellent shape. would definitely return. thanks for a great time.
Always Slow
I play this course only about once a year. I love the course itself. It is in very nice shape. The constant problem is the pace of play. It is always slow slow slow. After nine I wanted to just walk off or kill myself. I did neither. (I didn't walk off because I wasn't at the clubhouse ) It happens every time here. To top it off I always get a slow group in front of me and big hitters behind. I couldn't wait till the round was over.
Great views of Philly and Delaware river
This was my second time playing this course. Conditions were very good considering this is late in the season and we've had very little rain late in the summer. As other reviewers have mentioned, I wish the greens were a little faster. Otherwise, fantastic place to play.
too many people
this golf course send out too many people, causing always delay.
they never press green, too slow, too many bumps.
excellent view, particularly, last 5-6 holes of back nine.
if they reduce number of players, take care of greens, it will become one of the best course in south jersey.
Excellent Service
The course was in great condition on a very hot day. What was exceptional was the service there. The starter was very helpful since we had not played there in over a year. Then, one of the course managers kept checking on the pace of the play to keep things moving along. The pace clocks on holes are helpful.
slow greens
played the Achitects the day before. Greens here were very slow in comparison. Course in very good shape. Scenic final 3 holes if you like looking at Philadelphia.
Overall good course
Was a nice course with some challenging holes. Overall course was in good condition and staff was very freindly and had knowledge of course layout. Wasn't overpriced and would definitely play again for the money
Some Great Views
I played several years ago, and feel like they have made some of the views on the course much better. There were some great shots of the skyline and the river.
Greens were in good shape, but didn't roll too fast. fairways were in good shape - maybe over watered as they were pretty wet when we first went out.
Pace was the major issue - although there were many rangers out there and kept asking how things were, there was really nothing they could do as there were so many groups backed up in front. It was almost a 5 hour round on a Friday morning. There was some wind, but the course isn't that difficult for people to be out there that long....
Wait wait wait
Get ready for a at least a 4 1/2 hour round to 5 hour round. Slow play they overbook and only set tee times a short time apart so you are always waiting on each hole and have someone behind you waiting. The carts are terrible for the price you pay they should be brand new. Several times seen golfers broken down in carts or with flat tires. Cart paths are not all paved so bring your dusk mask and back brace because they are covered with broken shells and have undulations all over. They have two holes roped off for no reason which makes play even slower and you need to walk over very wide fairways should you hit it to the left. Very dangerous 1 mile drive from makeshift club house at a tennis center to first tee. Witnessed head on collisions because of their lack of safety regarding carts leaving for first tee. And you have to cross a road with on coming traffic to get to first hole with no warning signs to let you know it. I do not know how sanitary the food is at the turn but that grill is left out all the time so I am pretty sure rodents get in there. No bathrooms on the course just two overloaded porta potties. Sand bunkers are not filled properly with sand. The rough is almost unplayable it is thick and long even after cutting. You would think for what they are charging you would have cart paths, good carts, sand in the bunkers, a place to go to the bathroom, timely play, more playable rough, and a safe environment. Also, the water in the ball cleaners smells. Don't know how sanitary the drinking water is as not sure how often they clean out and sanitize the water dispensers. Also lots of bugs. Top management has a lot of work to do other than just counting their money. They should get to work correcting these shortcomings.
