Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
About
Ron Jaworski’s Riverwinds Golf & Tennis Club is situated along a scenic stretch of grassland between the banks of the Woodbury Creek and the deep harbor marina on the Delaware River. Its location gives it the feel of traditional seaside links courses found in Scotland and Ireland, which is further enforced by the sod-wall bunkers that lurk near the greens. The layout features plenty of water and incorporates the surrounding wetlands as well. One unique feature of the golf course is that the routing winds across a mile-long twisting burn, creating a visually interesting setting. Riverwinds begins with a gentle, mostly flat front nine but the mounding becomes more aggressive as you move onto the back. All of the holes face a different direction, which means you’ll most likely be using all the clubs in your bag to tackle the crosswinds and rugged terrain.

Great for all levels
This course is worth the money. Conditions are good. Well maintained. Pretty open without too many trees but make sure you avoid the OB areas and the long stuff on certain holes. The layout has a good variety of uphill, downhill, dog leg and over water holes. Some very scenic holes to the view of Center City Philadelphia and the Delaware River. This course occupies a lot of land so you feel secluded the holes are not side by side.
Riverside
It was ok, nothing spectacular. Not that difficult
Riverwinds.....very good condition
First time playing here and was extremely pleased with the condition of this course. If you like to bomb it and are not the most accurate driver, this course is for you. Wide open. Layout not the most challenging but I will play it again. Carts not the greatest.
Excellent shape "rain did not hurt this place"
This course is in excellent shape and worth the money, they are air rating on Sept 10, 2013 so if you want a "true roll, relaxing round" this is the place.
Good challenge
At over 6,500 from the whites, this is a good challenge. Course is always in average to above average shape. Everything is always green, and you don't see many bad areas of damage or GUR. Disappointing thing to me always here is the greens. They always look nice and appear to be kept well, but for such a nice layout, they are so SLOW. It's been that way since this place opened. If Jaws could bring Running Deer's greens to this place, it would be one of the premier spots in South Jersey.
Course was in great shape
This course was in great shape, somewhat challenging and a great value for the price ($32). Pace slowed somewhat on the back nine probably because of the value. I prefer rounds to be shorter then 4 1/2 hours but this round was almost 5 hours.
Great but SLOW
Clearly the course overbooked itself as I arrived on the tee to see a line of 4 groups still waiting to start. After playing nine in 2hours 45 mins I gave up and called it quits.
Love the course, but lets all enjoy it.
Also on a busy day, the fact they would let some groups ride with people walking in the same foursome its frankly stupid.
Walkers, we all have a place, but pace of play is pace of play and this slows the entire place down.
Also, lining up for the 3rd and 4th puts may be nice at the US OPEN, but for a social game, come on, really.
So Ron J, space the play better, don't get greedy and allow each golfer to enjoy their round.
Personally running deer your other place is awesome, the additional 20mins drive may just be worth the journey...
Great layout; bad etiquette.
The layout is great and overall condition good, but more attention needs to be made to ball marks and fairway divots by players and management alike. I know the course gets a lot of play, but that is no excuse to ignore ball marks and do or repair. It seems the holes aren't moved too often so the same spot gets targeted and worn by ball marks. And it was only 9am when we started, so it was obvious they didn't repair the greens in the evening or morning.
Good Course but Some Areas Need Attention
I live in West Deptford and therefore play this course on a regular basis. If this course wasn't near my home I probably wouldn't spend the money but it's in better shape than the courses nearby and it has a challenging layout.
Pros:
~Course is always in above average shape (besides the goose poo which is spread out throughout the course).
~Layout-it's open but has challenging spots where water and out of bounds come into play.
~Greens: They usually roll true and offer somewhat of a challenge.
~Rough: It's difficult and penalizes you for missing the fairways. (NOTE: There somewhat inconsitent from round to round. I've played some days where the rough isn't an issue and others where spots are 3-4 inches high making it near impossible to hack out).
CONS:
~RATE OF PLAY! While I love the layout and course overall I dread the drive to the first hole. You have to drive a 1/4 mile from the club house to the first tee and as you round the corner you'll typically see anywhere from 2-4 groups waiting to tee off. The marshalls refuse to speed groups up and they have groups going off every 7-8 minutes making the first 9 a mess on a daily basis. If you're not waiting at every hole you've hit the jackpot.
~CARTS: I play often so this happens to me more than the typical golfer at riverwinds, but Ive had carts die on the course at least twice over the last 6 months. The carts are old and in need of repair and from what I was told by the starter they were supposed to be replaced last summer but the owners decided to cancel that to keep profits up.
~STAFF: Most of the staff is courteous and great guys but there's a few crabs that try to spoil the fun. Watch out for anyone that drives up to you with a scowl on your face.
Overall I would recommend Riverwinds but only for groups that have 5 hours to spend on the golf course. Its long and most of the holes are a challenge for the average golfer. I love the course, but hate the amenities and wait times.
Also they need to add a bar/club house to expand the offering. There's only a small shack at the turn to grab some food and there's no cart girls that drive around with food and/or drinks.
Wonderful layout - interesting holes
Course was in very good shape except for areas which had Goose excrimant. I realize this can be very difficult to control but there should be something the course superindentant can do about it.
Course is in Good shape
I went on a Thursday around noon with a buddy. We tried to get an earlier tee time but it was all booked. While parking we noticed the 1st and 2nd holes were pretty packed so we were in for a long day of golf.
The positives:
-Staff was extremely nice and cordial.
-Course was in good/great shape. There were a few burnt spots and some of the bunkers were flooded or full of hard sand. Overall, it was solid quality.
-The pace was slow in the beginning but eventually sped up.
-Water was available throughout the whole course starting on the 4th hole.
The negatives:
-As mentioned before there were a few bunkers that were not playable.
-Pace of play. Our tee time was for 11:57 and we didn't get to tee off until 12:07. We were a bit backed up until roughly the 9th hole. From there it opened up. I personally am a slow golfer so I didn't really mind the pace.
-The price was $50 which really isn't bad. For a weekday though I think it could be a little bit cheaper. This is being a bit picky perhaps.
Overall as you can see the positives far out-weighed the negatives. I've played this course plenty of times but it's been a while so I was really looking forward to it. The course didn't disappoint.
I absolutely recommend this course.
Love the course dislike the pace of play.
Although I enjoy this course a great deal I am often hesitant about going back or recommending it because I believe that it is overbooked and pace of play is not enforced making for very long rounds of golf. Hopefully, this area will be improved in the future.
Despite the recent heavy rains the course is in good condition.
The greens were receptive and the roll was true. The staff was very accomodating when my partner was late they shifted us to the next tee time. Pace of play was slower than usual.
The back nine of the course offers some very nice scenery. Watching the planes approach the airport adds a nice touch.
The only problem I had with the course was the geese and the "things" they leave behind. That really should be addressed.
Great Rate if you can wait!
Riverwinds is a fairly long and tough course. Their normal greens fee is way to expensive for the average golfer, however the Hot Deals are normally awesome.
Today there was lightning on the course and it got shut down. I was only on the seventh hole when my round was in effect cancelled. I feel that Golf Now should be made aware of this and I should have some portion of my greens fee credited back to my account.
difficult course for the casual player
Greens are all in great shape. Tee box on a couple holes banged up a little. most fairways in good shape but there are a few that have some bad spots. Overall its in pretty good shape. There are NO EASY HOLES. Pace of play on a Sunday morning was a little slow and the cost to play is a bit on the expensive side, but its a good course to give yourself a treat and a good challenge when playing well. Bring extra balls. rough is tuff and marsh lands and water are plentiful. Not a course for players that can not break 100.
Good Shape
Considering the weather this summer the course was in pretty good shape. Some fairways had small issues but greens were excellent. The course has some challenging holes and some that can help your score. Will play again.
Course was challenging and fair.
Because of rain the previous day course was still wet and cart path only rules in effect. Possibly there could have been a slight discount for the aforementioned conditions. While crews were working on sand traps there still needed sand replenishment and drainage in order to get course in better playing condition.
Very Challenging!
First I've played here in about 4/5 years. Last time I played the rough was ridiculous! If you were off the the short stuff by 4 feet you either lost your ball or wasted valuable time looking for it. They have made the course very playable by eliminating the tall stuff. I still found it very challenging to score well on this course...but then again, that's golf! My son and I are definitely going to put this course on our MUST play list.
Challenging course, needs a little attention
Overall, I really like this course. It's close to Philly, which drives up the prices, but it's challenging, a fun layout, good views and pretty long. I would return. When I played there was a lot of rain 2 days earlier. Many of the bunkers were just muddy and required some attention. This course takes a long time to play. I played Tuesday afternoon and waited a bit. I can't imagine a weekend premium time slot.
