Neshanic Valley Golf Course - Lake/Ridge Course
About
Neshanic Valley Golf Course is a 27-hole layout that sprawls across 420 acres of rolling farmland. It is the flagship course of the five-course Somerset County Park Commission system. The design team of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry crafted the layout, which is divided into three nines called the Lake, Ridge, and Meadow. The nines can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Lake/Ridge Course, as the name would imply, starts out with a few water holes. In addition to the lakes on the front nine, environmentally sensitive wetland areas come into play throughout. The fairways and greens are bordered by ample fescue and the putting surfaces are closely guarded by strategically placed bunkers. Neshanic Valley also offers a nine-hole, par-32 Academy Course, which is great for beginners.

Neshanic Valley: A Peak experience
Course was in great condition – bent grass greens/fairways/tees; nice white sand in bunkers; thick bluegrass rough around the greens (easy to get your club under the ball for delicate chips).
This could be classified as a links-type course - very few trees to worry about. Fairways are fairly wide; I felt the course gave my driver “room to breathe”, which is nice.
Three nines here. We played the Ridge-Meadows combo from the Blue tees (~6,100 yards). Although the course can be challenging, I thought the 129 slope was overstated.
Big clubhouse, good carts. Didn’t see the bar/restaurant that might be there.
I’d give an overall rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
Challenging excellent course well served
Very nice course, challenging and fun to play
Staff refused to let me start early despite there was no one starting, but I know that’s the rule
When I started I was between multiple groups and Pace after I started was too rushed
Club house burger was very good prices are reasonable
Overall I love this course and this club
I have been member of its academy for several years
Best course on the county
Amazing municipal course
Can’t heap enough praise on the pristine conditions of this course. Tee boxes, fairways, greens are meticulous. I don’t think I saw a burned out spot on the course. Bunkers full of soft sand and raked like a resort course. Great views and many interesting holes, put on your big boy pants if you’re going from the tips. Love grass tee boxes on the driving range and great putting green in front of the clubhouse.
Yes it is not ideal that they don’t have water on the course, but I’m happy to bring my own water bottles and pay $55 (county card) riding for a course that easily holds it’s own against $125+ private courses. By far the best course I’ve played all year.
Great condition, well run, great experience.
I played this course recently while entertaining a client and it was almost perfect. The course was in great shape, challenging enough but not an impossible test and the facility was run well by a friendly staff. The course provided a good experience from a business standpoint - the facility is relatively new and has a classy feel, without making me burn through my expenses budget and we finished in 4 hours. The only areas for improvement I'd suggest for management are; get some drinking water on the course (a free bottle in the cart is a nice touch but doesn't sustain for a full day in 90 degree weather), and get a beverage cart on the premises. We didn't see a cart gal all day.
Great!
For public play, as as good a value as you can get. Course is in great shape, greens reasonable speed, bunkers are the best I’ve played this year anywhere in the country! All three nines are equally in my book. All good.
No water on the course. Summer time!
The course is in good shape. No water on the course and no drink carts.?You are offered one bottle of water for 18 holes. Staff needs to be trained in customer service, especially when so many better options are available to avid golfers.?
No water on the course.
The course provides ONE bottle for 18 holes of play. The course is in good shape. However, for the price you can get better deals on Golf Now. The staff needs to be trained in customer service.
Great course
As always course was in great shape from tee boxes to the greens. Played ridge to meadow in 4 hrs . Will keep coming back
Nice course, weird cart rules
Nice course in good condition. Definitely recommend if you get it for a good price. At non-resident prices not sure it's fully worth the money. Greens are firm but not very fast. They're challenging as many greens slope away from from you
Only course I've ever played where I was told not to ride the rough with a cart. Can makes it tough / slow process to find your ball and the rule seems unnecessary. Not sure why every other course on the planet is fine with carts in the rough but this place isn't
Awesome as always
Top notch from A to Z.the guys in the pro shop were friendly, personable, and competent.the course as in great condition. Tees, fairways, greens, rough, bunkers, and rough were as good as most country clubs, and I have played Augusta, Shinnecock,Baltusrol, winged foot and many others. The cart girls were friendly and personable and we saw them 4 times during the round. They cancelled aeration that was scheduled for next week until October. Played in 4 hours.. my buddy made a hole in one, adding to another great experience at neshanic!
First time long time
First time here wanted play here for a long time. Grabbed a hot deal for 40.00 a golfer. Played ridge and meadow. Course very fair from the blue tees. All course conditions perfect. Not a lot of shade on a hot sunny windless day. Would go back and recommend.
Beautiful day. Course is in great shape. Greens are firm and fast.. Scenic holes all around. Challenging from any set of tees, and there are plenty of choices to play from. Nice to see sand in the bunkers! Definitely play this course when you can.
Outstanding value!
My first time and I'm hooked (poor golf term). I already am coming back Monday! The quality of the facility, the practice area and obviously the shape of the course is amazing. For a public course, better than 80% of the private courses around the state I have played.
Well done staff!!
