Dunedin Golf Club

About
Dunedin Golf Club was carved out of citrus groves and was the PGA National Golf Course until 1962. The golf course itself is delightful. From elevation changes to a river that bisects the course, you can just feel the aura of the great golfers who have played here. Bobby Jones, Gene Saraze, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Paul Runyan to name a few have participated in tournaments here. Dunedin Country Club is located in Dunedin, minutes from the beaches, many restaurants and several top hotel options. Dunedin Golf Club is a Donald Ross creation.

Conditions
Course was very wet, sprinklers running on and off, got wet several time when the sprinklers came on .
Course was so over seeded that the ball would have a “band” of seed on it after a putt.
Most sand was hard, I guess from being watered
Would not recommend this course at this time, especially at the fees charged
Great value. Nice course. Friendly staff
We enjoyed our twilight round and were able to complete 18 holes. Very nice layout. Lots of challenging holes.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Would play here again next time we visit this area.
Wonderful Donald Ross Treasure
Traditional excellent Ross design --elevated, well-bunkered, smooth true-rolling greens, requiring an approach that lands on rather than rolls up to the green. Several tree-lined dog-legged holes, requiring precise tee shots and ability to work the ball both left and right for optimal routing. Course plays a little longer both because of precise routing and of limited roll-out on drives due to soft conditions of fairways. Excellent and challenging test while still fair and fun!
Hole in one!
This is one of the best courses I have played! I enjoyed all the updated perks of golf carts and I thought the conditions of the course were great!
But my greatest experience was hitting a hole in one on hole #16 the “Tower” 176 yard par 3 with my 7 iron! Also a big thanks to Tony in the clubhouse getting me all registered for my hole in one!
Starter
Starter was overwhelmed by the crowd and we started late
Full Enjoyment
This is my second time playing here and I will return. It is a challenging course without being punishing. Even w/the Ross greens, a shot that comes up short is challenging and not impossible for this 14 HCP. There are a number of memorable holes with carry shots. The course was in good condition for winter golf. The greens had winter overseen, but rolled true: fast and somewhat firm, but you could get you shots to hold the green. The course definitely calls for game management and creativity!
Poor management of groups
This is a 3.5 hour course and we had 4.5 hours to sunset, no problem. The back 9 was packed so I can only assume they were taking back 9 bookings to squeeze more $$ regardless of how it effected those who paid for 18. It was packed, we sat at every tee box with groups on the tee box and the group ahead waiting to take the 2nd while waiting for the group on the green. 10 mins at one tee box we waited. We made it to 15 and had to quit, in 30 years of golf I’ve never not finished a round. The conditions were also poor, terrible tee boxes, oh, and charged our bill with drinks we didn’t have and missed things off our order, while telling us they’d done us the courtesy of adding the 18% so we didn’t have to lol. The audacity of not doing the job correct but keeping the expectation of 18% regardless, kind of sums this place up. Poorly run place.
Good condition and value
Had enjoyable round at Dunedin CC. overall decent conditions for the area, better than Bardmoor, about the same as Cove Cay and Seminole Lakes. Greens got pretty fast baking in the sun, which made for a challenge. Course was interesting without being too gimmicky.
The course is in great shape. Pace of play was slow due to a foursome that was extremely slow even with a cart to drive them around. I’ve played behind walkers that were faster. Almost 5 hours to play because of them. Anyways, course was great. Greens in good shape. Fairways cut nicely. It’s my favorite course for sure. Rates have gone up pretty much since I started golfing here a couple years ago.
Donald Ross desigh
Great course- challenging bunkers. Two. Different nines.
Good but fairways need work
Enjoyed playing but course needs work on fairways. Course closing in March for total rehab.
Very disappointed
Can't believe so many think this is such a good course. I mean there wasn't really anything wrong with the course, it just wasn't anything special. The staff was very friendly but after reading all the glowing reviews I just expected a lot more out of the course. People make a big deal out if being 'historic' but I've played courses when I lived on Long Island that were every bit as historic, having hosted early PGA's or Senior Tour tournaments & being built in the late 1800s that you step on the course & just say 'wow. This wasn't it.
I won't be returning & wouldn't recommend this course to friends.
Older course, lots of play
I don’t think this course gets the love it used to get at one time, Some of the tee boxes were pretty beat up. I thought the fairways and greens were in very good shape. Most holes were next to each other so it’s not spread out. I would probably play other courses before I go there again. I did enjoy the course and felt it was a good challenge.
Looking forward to the Restoration
Conditions may be below normal since the course is scheduled to undergo renovation which should be awesome. They have lost grass on several greens and in some fairways.
Not in terrible shape but certainly not in great shape. Will be back once the restoration is done but not before.
