About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

need to shape shots
Par fives look easy but present difficulity.Water doesnt come into play but you sure think it does.
Course has many doglegs
Conditions were good, shot placement is important due to many doglegs. Made for an interesting round.

Blind golf
Quite a few blind shots off the tee and to elevated greens. Not a long course. Par 5s within reach in 2 but not easy (guarded by water or traps) Green are lightning fast. Most with big breaks, Annoyed by the starter. Myself and other single paired up with ready at our tee time but 2somes w/ our tee time 20 mins late. 4 groups sent out ahead of us. We should have teed up at our tee time and late 2 some forced to driven to us on course. If 2 some never showed up might still be waiting to tee off!

great layout, tough tough greens very fast but would definitely play this course again

You need some food as restaurant not open
Good golf course Best condition I have played however you need to advise golfers to fix divots on greens or greens manager should have them fixed every day thank you paul obrien

A challenging but fair course !
Most of the holes are reachable in regulation but after that the fun starts. Each hole has it's own best spot to drive. Lots of slopes to deal with when driving. Approach shots are not too bad, provided you plan ahead. When I played the greens were rock hard and no matter how high you hit approach shots, they refused to hold the green. That may have been due to the rain-less month we just had here. That made putting a challenge. The staff was friendly and cooperative. They let us get off earlier than our tee time since we arrived early. Didn't try the restaurant, hence no comment for that.
I'd gladly play the course again.

Most challenging greens anywhere
Had our league outing here. Great choice by the members.
Feels like we were playing at a private course.
Course management is a must. Try to hit in front of the pin as the super fast greens were hard to hold. Breaks are hard to see and more than you will expect. Definitely kept it interesting!
Will be back as a regular!

Some changes
I've played this course since 2007. New management has decided to take out several greenside bunkers and that's a good thing. This course plays tight and you don't need them to make it tougher. Word to wise; If your spraying your driver leave it in the bag on this course.

Love this course
Well worth the drive out east. This course makes you think about a lot of shots. Sometimes its best to leave the drive in the bag. Course is in great shape.

Decent
Fun layout, much more elevation change than expected. Pretty short, greens were in good shape and fast. Fairways were a bit ripped up in some areas.

like this course
have played many times in the past
however they are redoing the restaurant and there is only a cart girl
also the ladies rooms in the club house were all out of order
only the house at the 5th was operating

Thank you for coming out to play Maidmar61! I apologize for the inconvenience of the locker rooms being temporarily out of service. We had no way of knowing that someone doing work in the area was going to hit a water main which would render us without water for the day. If we had known we certainly would have told you.
Thanks again for choosing Great Rock. The restaurant is scheduled to be completed in a few weeks.

Great Course, Great Deal!
I have played this course a few times over the years but this was as good as I have ever seen it. Greens were pristine and running very quick, fairways and tee boxes were in good shape as well. Course tends to be pretty narrow which makes up for the fact that it is only 6200+ yards from the back tees. Greens are large and have lots of ridges and with the speed they were running, you better have your putter working here. Overall, it was a great experience and played in almost exactly 4 hours. If you are in the area, try to get here and see what it is all about!

Fun and challenging layout
Wanted to play a new course in the eastern Long Island area and I was suggested to try Great Rock. The course was well maintained, the fairways and greens were both in good shape. The layout and terrain were tricky and challenging. Great fun course

Nice track A lot of. Elevation
Pretty nice course. It needs some upkeep but in all fairness it hasn't rained in eastern Long Island in 6 weeks. Greens in good shape. Will try again.

Nice course.....but.....
This is a very nice course. Very well kept. Beverage cart around all day. My only complaint was it took 5 1/2 hours to do the loop. Other than that I would recommend giving it a try.

Great Get-a-way
I live in the city and normally play courses closer to my location, but on this occasion I decided to make the extra drive. I'm glad I did. Great Rock was a nice change of pace. The round was quicker, quieter and more challenging than where I usually play. The course was in great shape. The greens were soft but fast and the fairways were consistent. I didn't have the best golf that day, the elevation and short dog legs are really something to think about, but I will definitely be coming back. Also, looking forward to seeing the finished club house and restaurant.

great fun course
Enjoyed everything about this right. Everyone was nice and helpful. Pace of play was great(it was monday morning) course condition was great. Challenging course. Cant just hit your driver off the box all day, even from the tips. Would play this more often if wasnt so far away.
