About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Always a great time
Greens were airrated so putting just stunk but the course was in good condition and its always fun to play because of the driving challenges. Every hole is different and requires a different shot off the tee.
A JOKE
Booked this on golf now with no idea if the course conditions , including punched greens with to much sand on top , restaurant under construction , Snack bar vacant, no cart girl , no food or beverage , not even as much as a bag of chips to be found .
Granted the fees were only 30 dollars but it wasn't worth the experience

Great Course & superb Staff
The course was air rated but still in great shape!!! Spectacular course!!! challenging & plays extremely well. Had a great round. Staff makes you feel like you are at a private country club!!! Can't wait to play there again & AGAIN.

fun , challenging coursa for all skill levels
Played for first time, aerated rate is a great deal. And the course is in exactly that condition// aerated greens and portions of fairway with dirt "pills" all over the place. The course plays moderate from the white's and difficult from the tips. Excellent pace as the round today took me 3 hours and 20 minutes, granted i played as a single (20 cap) on a wednesday afternoon. T'd off at 110 and done with 18 at 430. Played through two threesomes of old men kindly wAved me through, Drank beer no problem the ranger was very cool guy... Had a blast . Lawnmower crew was courteous and let me hit before they crossed my path. Very pleased and will be coming back tomorrow. Shot a disappointing 100, hard to put on aerated greens .

Excellent condition
Course in good shape,
As a twosome we were able to finish 18 holes under 4 hours, staff was friendly, definitely will go back.
Challanging greens
Overall a real nice layout. Greens are fast and contoured. Bring your putting A game. Would play again.

Nice course. Had wanted to play it for a while and I'm glad I finally had the chance to. Good times with friends at a great location.
Great Day Trip
I enjoyed the course although the greens are recently aerated, the course was pleasing to the eye with it's tight fairways, some holes I put the driver away and hit irons to score better. Love the hills and rock formations, a few holes have blind shots that add a little mystery to finding balls. I recommend it to others and can't wait to get back out there, first class locker room.
Fast Greens makes for a slippery slope
A course like this makes you appreciate a good putter with soft hands. They were lightning, re-teaching me to be super soft in the hands. It was a good lesson. By the 4th hole I was good to go. From there, precise clubs, knowing when to club down, using the slopes of the fairways to your advantage, all came into play. The course has so much character, elevated tees, beautiful scenery, sloping fairways and greens. It really was a treat to play her again, after a year away. The course was in excellent condition, especially for one played so much. She deserves to be treated well. It's an excellent layout, a great piece of land, one that I'm glad was resurrected from it's closing early in 2014. Go enjoy and fix your divots and ball marks, people!
One of my favorites!
OMG!....fast greens.....for some reason they were the fastest ever this time....or maybe I just can't putt!...either way, I really like this course...love the visuals on every hole.....Dog legs force you to use less than driver.......like to elevation changes
Best Public Course on the Island
Truly the nicest cours . Immaculate and challenging. The greens were fast and tough but I'm not complaining. At quite a few tee boxes you look out and say "wow". So nice. At $49 it can't be beat.

We played from the tips with the wind played longer than 6,000 yards.
Course challenges you to use all your clubs, greens were challenging bring you putting game.

Course rebounds from sale and closure. Bar and restaurant not reopened yet but course is in great shape. Best value for a round of quality golf on Long Island!
Great Rock a good course
A good challenge for your game. Staff was great. Pretty scenic. Greens are very fast. Thought about walking but very happy I used a cart.

Exceptional layout!
Great Rock has everything in terms of design and challenges. Left and right dog legs, uphill, downhill and throw in a couple of short holes along with fast greens and you have an enjoyable and challenging day of golf. A note on the greens, pay attention to the grain (can be a bit tricky). Our round took just a little under 4 hours, which for a public course on Long Island is pretty good. This course just re-opened in June and as of today the restaurant is still not open (should be soon though).

Greens like Ice
Nice layout, course needs some work. Fairways a bit beat up but not too bad. Greens were almost unplayable. Hard and slick like ice. Your either in the hole or rolling off the green. Like the course but must soften the greens.
