Great Rock Golf Club

Excellent experience. No problems with reservation, friendly pro-shop and starter, on-time tee off, very nice course.
The course has some challenging holes and some difficult slippery greens but is fair and in good shape.
A lot of elevation changes and scenic views.

The course is nice and long and in good condition overall. The greens were a little beat-up, hard and very fast. It was an incredibly busy day but still a good time out on the course.

Tee to green the course is in nice condition. The greens were slightly beat up. I don't think anyone fixes ball marks at this course.

The course is not long on the score card but do not be fooled this course takes skill to score well. Elevation changes and tricky greens make this a very fun round of golf. Big hitters will tee off with six different clubs in the first six holes. Bunkers are well placed and come into play if you do not plan out your shots.

The pace of play was so slow at times we had 3 groups on the tee. No Rangers. We were a threesome and at 10 my playing partners walked off. I got lucky was able to jump in with the group ahead of me. Oh did I mention we became a twosome at 11 because the other 2 guys walked off.

Greens were very fast. Had some obnoxious guys behind us complaining they had to wait.

Shot position is very important here, and the greens are some of the fastest you'll putt on anywhere

Just played this course today for the first time. I loved the layout. It made me use different clubs off the tee. Greens are really fast and hard to judge. Not so much a complaint, but more of a warning for those playing for the first time. Wish I took time to putt before I teed off. As much as I like parts of the course, I just wish they could make it look nicer around the fairways. Just lots of places with just dried out dirt and weeds really close to the fairway. Not really much grassy rough. There was lots of poison ivy very close to fairways. I especially found a whole bunch by the 15th on the right side. Luckily I played with a nurse who advised me to get out and rub water all over my legs just in case. If they could make all their holes look like the 18th, then I'd pay more to play there. For the $42 I paid on Golfnow with cart it was a nice deal. Not sure I'd drive an hour to play there again, but if I'm around the area I'd give it another shot just to see how well I could do if I just putt better.

There's been a lot of effort put into improving the greens. In the past they had been pretty rough. Lots of divots and generally rough conditions. Much smoother now. Great course if you're looking to try something other than the long flat courses that riddle the island. Lots of hills, dog legs and elevated tees. Great course for the money. Would definitely recommend.

Do you like waiting? Very few amenities? And recently added reservation fee? Then Great Rock is the course for you. I've golfed at this venue since it opened and wished they would put recliners in the T-box so I can catch a nap while I wait. This is certainly one of the nicest public tracks when it's maintained but they can't seem to fix what's broken. While they discourage coolers, I've managed to go 15 holes in 90+ degree weather in the past before I saw the beverage cart. Today the cart appeared on the 11th hole. I guess this will get fixed when someone gets heat stoke and brings a suit. They recently ruined some characteristics of the course (and I guess) in an effort to speed up play. Another failed attempt to fix what's clearly broken. I am composing this while riding with a friend as I have given up trying to play so I am putting the time to better use by writing this review. In my option this is a course that has the potential to be great when managed properly. If you like a challenge and have extra available time and patience give it a try. Otherwise save some money and play a state, county or town course as the pace of play should be about the same.

Course was in great shape, but the taxes and fees that were added resulted in only a $3 savings from the courses regular fee. I was expecting to save at least $9 and paid more than I was informed I would have to at the course when I checked in. The price listed on the site should be the price you pay in full.

the greens need a lot of work. you can't stick a ball on any green no matter how high. they were like the parking lot

The course is in great shape. The greens are running pretty good. I have 2 complaints, the price I received from golfnow.com was $40. I was only able reserve which was $4. I paid the remaining fee at the course plus tax. Total cost was $50. To say the least, the deal was knocked out of the box. Second complaint is, there was no snack cart riding around.

The Grill is under renovation. It took us 4 hours 30 minutes to finish 18 holes. The tee-offs are too close to each other.

Pretty nice course. Perfect difficulty for our threesome of mid 90's handicappers. Most of the holes gave us a chance at par.
Pace was OK, we only had to wait for the twosome in front of us a few times. Beverage cart only had soft drinks and clubhouse was not yet open

The greens were rough but staff service was excellent. The final cost to my group was more than we thought as the tax charge was not clearly stated on our internet receipt. In addition, we were looking for a bargain, but when all was said and done, we paid $52 per person which the group did not consider a bargain.

I must preface this by saying I am a 6 handicap and used to play this course quite often a few years ago. I stopped going about 3 years ago when conditions started to falter. Now that there is new management and positive reviews I decided to give it another shot and I was majorly disappointed. I called the pro shop yesterday to ask how the conditions were (any aeration, temporary greens, etc). They said no , the course is in great condition . So with that I went to play expecting a decently maintained course . There is NO depth in Grass on the fairways first of all so if you like hitting off dirt this is your course. Also the greens were pretty much hitting from a sand trap. Huge aeration marks and sand EVERYWHERE. Nothing better than watching a putt bounce 20 times from 10 feet. The greens are also mostly dead and I don't see them growing in properly so with that I WILL NEVER PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN. Also the sand traps are filled with rocks so that was fun. It's a shame because the views and holes are very nice but the lack of course maintenance makes this course well below all other courses on the island.

One more week course will be in perfect condition. Was very impressed with the construction. Going to be a great place to go
